It's not sad that the the opinion is different, I know everyone has different opinions and I would never think anything is wrong with that. It is sad in the manner in which the opinion is expressed. In this case to me, to say someone is not normal because they are male and choose ro wear nail polish is sad.

By society's standards, men wearing red nail polish isn't "normal". That's why you don't see it every day walking down the street. It's not the "norm".

I know it sounds harsh to say something isn't normal, but if we use the word in it's true definition, it's not harsh at all.

Honestly, if my husband started wearing red nail polish, I'd tell him to take it off right now and I'd tell him he isn't normal! But I'd never tell that to anyone else, even if I was thinking it.

I have seriously been sitting here trying to figure out a way to approach the "The Gays" statement, and I really couldn't think of an appropriate or even nice way to respond. You did well!!

Not preaching, but I think we shouldn't get all caught up in being insulted by the way someone says it. I think I've said "the Gays" in my life, but I assure you it wasn't in a negative way. I'm just giving the OP the benefit of the doubt that it's just her wording and she's not a Gay hater. And even if she were prejudiced against Gays, as much as many of us are angered and saddened by it, it's a person's right to their own feelings. She's not slurring them, she's having and opinion, that's all. I don't know, I just really really hate when people's personal freedoms are ganged up on because it isn't the "norm".

true, but for the most part, guys are typically wearing socks/shoes, so there's no way to tell. Heck, every guy in my office right now could be wearing neon pink/red/purple toenail polish. I'd never know....

true, but for the most part, guys are typically wearing socks/shoes, so there's no way to tell. Heck, every guy in my office right now could be wearing neon pink/red/purple toenail polish. I'd never know....

And yes I'm intolerant if my husband puts on red nail polish!!! I don't care if you all think it's normal for your husbands, but it's not for mine and I'm sticking to it.

What's horrible is JCrew screwing around with everyone's emotions by starting a controversy just to sell their products. The controversy is in the fact that people on both sides tend to have strong opinions when it comes to "is it ok for a mom to put hot pink nail polish on her son." And we all fell for it.

This thread is just nuts! Who the heck(and yes I could substitute another 4 letter word) cares if a mom and her son are playing. So what if the boy grows up to be a flaming queen? A mom putting nail polish on her son doesn't make him gay. People are people for goodness sakes. I really thought we had come further than this.

When DS was a few years younger, he went through a phase of liking pink sparkling things. He wore Princess dresses and asked me to paint his fingernails & toenails. While other people were busy freaking out and telling us we were going to make him gay we just let him be. Quite un-surprisingly, he outgrew it. His favorite color is now red, and I'm pretty sure I couldn't get him into a dress even if I bribed him.

Besides, I've been to the "gay club" enough times now. (LOVE going for the drag shows.) I've seen The Gay Boys dance. Comparing that to the way my poor ds dances, there's just no way he's gay.

OH CARP! DD was FOREVER putting makeup on DH and painting his toes AND fingers, he even accidentally went out once with his toenails painted purple and he had flip flops on. Should I be worried, because he wasn't phased in the least when we realized his toenails were painted and people could see them!!

There is a huge difference between a dad having tea with his daughters and letting them girl him up and letting a young son do it. Its not about the color either, its the principal and the idea of normal. When does accepting end. Eventually this society is going to end up like a certain movie staring Malcolm McDowell.

Here is DD's buddy, neighbor boy from a few doors down. He is wearing a pink polo, he was fiddling around in my garden so he put on MY pink gardening gloves (we DO have a brown pair and a green pair), he has DD's pink hair tie on his wrist and he has been riding DD's PINK bike around ALL afternoon! While I sometimes wonder if this kid is .... you know.... right in the head ( ), he IS a typical boy and under those pink gardening gloves are filthy hands from "treasure hunting"!

I am laughing so hard at the idea that nail polish = gay. Clearly, the people who think that have never met many gay men.

Oh, and years ago, I had a co-worker who used to get her nails done at the same place Pat Buchanan got his done. He opted for the clear, however. Guess that's ok with the conservatives.
