My dd14 has a macbook and needs to be able to read and create Powerpoint and Word compatible documents. Is iWork good for that or is it better to use Microsoft for Mac? Any opinions?

I think the Microsoft suite would work better, mainly because in iWork you would need to use Keynote to create slideshows. However some of the really cool effects aren't compatible from Keynote to Power Point. You can create a fairly basic slideshow and export it as a Power Point, however some of the features your daughter may use would have to be chosen as a different effect in Power Point when she opens it there.

Thanks! That's exactly the kind of information I was looking for! Looks like I should spend the extra $70 for Microsoft.

iWork is enough to just "get by". If you really want to use it spend the extra money and get MS Office.
