Help...I've started packing....and I CAN'T STOP!! Man, I can't believe how much we're bringing!!!!

How many of you seem to come home with tons of stuff that you don't use? Just wondering....

:)

Oh, don't get me started!

DH thinks I pack for every possible scenario under the sun: in case its cold, in case it rains, in case it gets cold AND rains, in case I might dress up, in case I might dress up on a cold day, in case I might dress up in case it's a cold AND rainy day...blah blah.

So, typically me, I come home and unpack half my suitcase full of stuff I never used!

When are you going? Where's your countdown thingie?

I can totally relate.....I am in full packing mode myself. I will actually begin packing tonight but have been updating and revising my packing list all week.

I pack for myself and my 2 DS, ages 8 & 3 1/2. My husband is on his own!

We are SOOOOOOOO excited for our upcoming 8day/7night vacation at AKL and our first DVC vacation at BWVs......my parents become members last year and we are associates.

I actually am cutting down on the number of outfits/clothes we are bringing this year since we have a washer/dryer in BWvs. Last year we stayed at OKW and used the W/D at night to run a load or two...very handy!

I am a huge overpacker for every place we go and usually end up wearing or using only half of what I packed and then buy a bunch of stuff that I didn't pack but needed!! This year though we are taking a short (4 day) trip and are determined to get as much as we can out of it - that includes no checked luggage - only what we can get on the plane so we will be taking exactly 3 outfits a piece, bathing suits, sleepwear, and basic toiletries only!!! That will go in one small rolling bag and then I'll have my purse, a camera bag, and a small expandable bag for souveniers. No time to waste - we've got to get to Disney!!!

Good luck!

I have been packing this whole week and I an not evern close to being done! Just when I think I have it all I forget something. :)
LOL

hi,

you all are so close to your wdw vacations, i am so happy for you. have a magical time.

anyway, my dh and i went to wdw in may and i thought i had overpacked. well, we almost ran out of clothes. (we didn't do a laundry, we stayed courtyard at wilderness lodge.) although i thought i might have to. the weather was hot for that time of year and my dh must have changed two or three times. when you sweat, you just don't want to put the old clothes back on. we would go to the parks then come back for a rest, shower and then go back out. so we went through at least two outfits a day. so i was glad i brought what i did. :D all in all, great time. can't wait until december.

again, have a magical and pixie dust filled vacation. enjoy. :D

Oh, I am so glad to read all of your responses....my DH thinks I'm a total freak for bringing so much stuff  , but I'm packing for my DD (4), DS (3) and for myself...my husband is on his own too! :)

We are arriving at WL one week from today, but leaving on Saturday, for a leisurely drive and some stops along the way.
(haven't figured out the countdown thing yet!)

It's the first time there with the kids....can't wait!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

What about all the shopping before the packing!!!!! I can't stop shopping. It really didn't occur to me just how much money you can spend just to prepare for the trip. Why do we all need new stuff??????

Packing and shopping! Been there done that ........ well almost done.
Just one more new shirt to match my new shorts:o
I guess I should go out and buy another bag to fit my new shirt that matches my new shorts!
I wonder if there will be room for ME in the car!:smooth: LOL

OVERPACKERS OF THE WORLD. . . UNITE!

Anyone feel like starting an Overpackers Annonymous support group? I thought MY family was the only one who did this!! An I TOTALLY agree with everything everyone said concerning early packing because it's something we do, too! The packing early and not being able to stop; the buying new things to use or wear; the packing of clothes or other articles that never get used or worn and the list goes on and on.

My mom and I don't leave for two weeks (we're down to 13 days now), and we spent the better part of Sunday afternoon ironing and starching the clothes and putting those clothes and other things in our suitcases. So now we each have 2 of each of our 3 suitcases half packed!

LOL

I'm a reformed overpacker. :D

I have my husband and kids each pack just a carry-on for the plane. We wear our long slacks and sneakers on the plane. And, I always buy one of those WDW shopping bags when I get there for the stuff we buy while we're there. I doo laundry about 2-3x during the week.

One of the best things to pack is a sleeveless, lightweight, sundress with pockets - to pull on when you wake up and want to go get coffee first thing in the morning.

We pack about an hour before we leave. :D

yes!!!!!!!! LOL!!!

no kidding about how much $$ spent just getting ready for the trip!! it's amazing!!!!!

gabrielle--one carry-on????? you're the packing queen!!! :)

gotta get off the computer.....to do some more packing!! :Pinkbounc

A sugguestion, If you are bring the kids; especially a boy, go buy a few pairs of the pants that have the zipper off legs. When it is hot wear as shorts and cold as pants. Have fun.

The main reason we always end up with so much stuff is because we always hit a park early in the morning, come back to the hotel for a swim mid-afternoon, then go back to the parks for dinner. You don't feel like putting on you sweaty morning outfit again for dinner so that means 2 outfits per day per family member. I guess we could do laundry down there but I don't want to waste valuable vacation time.

Since our first trip in '97 I've maintained a packing list in a spreadsheet and update it when we return from a visit. If I took a dozen t-shirts and only wore 8, I'm better prepared for the next trip.

One thing I've asked DW to do this trip is instead of picking out her outfits then matching shoes to them, pick out a couple of pairs of shoes and only take outfits that match them. Shoes are so heavy and take up so much room.

The other thing that helps a little bit is we figure we'll probably each get a couple of shirts while down there so we take that into account and pack a little less. We just have to make sure we'll have room for them on the way back.

>>gabrielle--one carry-on????? you're the packing queen!!!

Thanks mmgrdg!
:D

As soon as I get to the room (I usually stay Moderate) I call for a hairdryer. So, no packing hairdryers.

For a one-week trip, I pack one pair of flip flops, one pair of cushioned sandals, 4 pairs of shorts, 6 T-shirts, 2 bathing suits, 1 or 2 lightweight sundresses and underwear. I wear long slacks and a collared shirt on the plane if we decide to dress-up somewhere (going to the CA grille this summer). Sneakers on the feet when I fly because they're too heavy to pack. That's it. :D

I step off the plane with my bag, jump into a car at MCO and I'm on my way. Wonderful feeling! I can't wait to rub Mickey's nose again at MCO when I pass by this summer!

:D

I'm packing for 6 of us (DH, myself and 4 kids) and I know I overpacked. I even did the 'pack and then remove half' thing and I still managed to load a big suitcase with clothes for all 4 kids. I know I packed too much. I just don't want to leave behind any of their cute Disney outfits. I need help!!!

We have 2 HUGE suitcases, a garment bag, a big duffel for shoes and our backpacks for carry on along with a stroller and two car seats. I'm even one of those people that just buys whatever I forget, too. I need serious help.

cart-mom,

I think you did really well packing for six of you. We have one large suit case for my husband and myself but we do have room in it and one med. suitcase for our grandson with swim diapers and things he will need. My daughter has two large suitcases for her, husband and her son. One duffle bag for chair, umbrella and back pack carrier. Nathan has a carry on and his car seat, backpack and stroller. He has his own ticket for the plane so he gets his own stuff. There is going to be nine of us on trip so we rented a 15 passenger van.

I swear I won't over pack but I always do and after reading getting chaffed on a trip report board, I will be adding Desitin in a minute.

Everyone, have wonderful trips to the land of magic!

Kathy

If I left the packing to DH, he would just pack a couple of outfits and rewash them every couple of days - he is awful at packing.

I love packing, even though I tend to over do it. I will pack extra outfits for those moments when you need to change. I take extras of everything - I am always afraid of forgetting something - DH would just go buy anything that was forgotten - he is too laid back for me!!

I am starting to get the packing itch - even though we don't leave for a month and a half, I want to start packing little things now. I've read all of my guide books over and over, so now I need something else to occupy my time!!

Been there done that!!!

I pack for myself, DH and DSs 9 & 13. Those of you whose husbands pack for themselfs are LUCKY. Mine won't pack and then starts asking me for this shirt or these shorts.

Have already packed my toiletry bag;) I'm really late with packing also...I used to start at least 2 months before, don't ask.

I always purchase new socks for our trip down to WDW along with alot of other thing. They just seem softer when they're new.

Definately an overpacker. I'd rather overpack then do laundry on our vacation. This time though I think I will be doing laundry because we do the 4day cruise first and the are going to the WLV so since we'll have the machine heck why not use it.:D

I've been packing already..lol..keep thinking of new things..
Just added my battery charger..now I gotta buy more rechargeable batteries for the digicam... You're right..it is expensive just to go ON vacation..let alone what you spend while there...LOL - Buying stuff to entertain the kids on the ride down... then I think we don't have enough socks..or the right shoes..or swimwear.. and I still wanna buy the girls ID bracelets for the trip - Then gotta go get Disney Dollars... it's a shopping process!!
I think I'll pack extra clothes for hubby too...reading that is was real hot, and ya sweat easy... because I sure don't wanna be doing laundry on vacation!!!!
