So, we were thinking of adding on 100 points at BLT after the Sea what's next event and I thought we would be better off buying at AKL or VGC, but was really surprised that BLT is the cheapest in the long run.

Based on monthly payments (currently, I know it can and will fluctuate) and dues for the next 50 years, we would actually save $2900 and have it another 3 years. :scared1:

I'm happy I figured it out all the way ~ because I really wanted BLT!!! :cool1:

Now to convince hubby!!!

You are right about the dues and the contract life, but BLT cost more points for a stay than the other resorts so 100 points will not go far. Just something else to think about

Doesn't that depend on the view booked?
BLT Standard view seems to be similar in points to BCV, BWV Preferred/Garden/Pool, AKV Savannah, and VWL.

It is similar but hard to get- you need to call at 9am on 11 months out normally- especially at busy times of the year. I know when I called for a studio in November I was getting the last one available at the 11 month day on the dot and it was only 9:20 in the morning- their are more standard view rooms than AKL concierge but they are not too easy to get. You need to plan on sometimes getting a LV even as an owner.

With the maintenance issues at BLT, I expect the dues to adjust as soon as the resort sells out. IMHO DVD Marketing wants to keep the dues low until then.

Cabinets, carpet, fixtures, and walls are already showing more wear than other DVC resorts. Cleaning the windows will cost more than other resorts.

All we can do is wait and see.

I still believe that you should buy where you love to stay. Buying based upon price just doesn't make sense when my enjoyment at Disney is at stake. :goodvibes

Wow, Bill - I have not been a "buy where you want to stay" person, but the way you phrased it, clicked with me. :thumbsup2

To the OP - I hope you can convince DH! ;)

I really started preaching "buy where you love to stay" with our BLT purchase, which we bought before staying there. Until then, we had stayed at all of the DVC resorts. BLT has it's pluses, but it's just not our favorite.

We love and own BWV, BLT, VWL, and AKV. We also enjoy OKW and SSR, but availability there currently isn't a problem, so why guarantee a 11 month booking window when booking at 30 days out routinely isn't a issue.

If you consider the time value of money you get a somewhat different picture due to the price difference esp for resale. Also, don't expect the BLT dues to remain as much different as they are now. Still a reasonable choice, I just wanted to point out some issues where I don't think the assumptions you made are the ideal ones.

You are correct. We travel in Magic Season and the SV rooms at BLT are very comparable in points to the other resorts we would stay, BCV or VWL. Matter of fact, in 2011, BCV 1 bedroom is 1 point more than the SV 1 bedroom at BLT.

So, for us, owning and staying at BLT is not costing us more in terms of the points we need to make our yearly trip.

Yes, as a BLT owner, I have to agree that we will probably get hit with a dues increase as soon as BLT sells out, if not before then. Still, we do have some "pros" on our side in terms of keeping the dues fairly low, so we'll see how that all comes into play. To the OP, good luck with convincing your DH...if he is anything like my DH, once I showed him the numbers, he was a quick sell. Hope we'll be welcoming you home soon. :goodvibes

You will probably need the 11 month booking window for the THVs which is part of SSR.

True, but we see THV as a novelty resort and staying in a tree house doesn't really appeal to us. If there was something more at the resort, maybe, but all there is are the rooms.

When we bought DVC, we thought we'd spend most of our time in a studio. Well once we have stayed in a 2 bedroom, I know I don't want to go smaller than a one bedroom. We are a family of 5, so if all of us stay together, we can get in a one bedroom at BLT where if we wanted to stay at BVC or BWV or SSR, we would have to get a 2 bedroom. So in reality, that uses more points, and a BLT stay is cheaper. I also bought where I wanted to stay.

In my opinion you should buy where you want to stay if you make reservations more than 7 months in advance. If you make reservations less than 7 months in advance I personally think Saratoga Springs resale is the way to go.

I also wish I knew the percentages of people who will end up owning DVC until the end dates. I hear so often people calling to sell and they will say we thought we were keeping this until it expired but.....we just moved to Florida, we need the money as buying a new house, our kids have started college, etc.
