While talking about possible vacations for this year, I was telling DH the price for 2 to go to WDW with the free dining package if staying at PopCentury or the AllStars (which I know he's never been a fan of).

It was met with silence. Then he says "How much to sleep on a park bench in EPCOT?" :rotfl:

So, as he was leaving for work this morning, I asked if he wanted me to get an EPCOT bench quote....and he QUICKLY said "yes"!!!!

:rotfl:

It's not just at WDW either. DD17 automatically assumed that our upcoming trip to check out colleges would entail staying at 5 star hotels in Philly, Baltimore, and Williamsburg! We're staying at a Hyatt, Sheraton, and Woodlands (not too sure about this last one). Maybe when SHE is paying the bill.........!

DH took DD for a spur of the moment trip in Feb. They stayed at ASMu. She couldn't understand WHY they didn't have room service. She was little miffed at having to go to the food court to eat.

I feel sorry for whatever man she ends up marrying. :sad2:

I shot myself in the foot with my own husband. His first ever trip to WDW I booked us at the Poly. Our honeymoon, the GF. Now he refuses to stay anywhere other than one of the Monorail resorts, and Poly (lagoon concierge no less!) being his first choice.

I priced out the free dining promotion at a mod (POR) and the Poly, just to show him the differance and how much we could save by going down a step. He said he didn't care, that he'd work extra overtime to make up the differance, if I couldn't find it in our budget. Guess where we're going to stay this fall?

:thumbsup2

Marie's only trip to WDW was Poly lagoon concierge, and I am having a tough time getting her back, LOL. :scratchin :confused3

Boy, I'd be happy if we could go and stay at the POP or All Stars...I wouldn't care as long as I was there!

But....going to WDW with my sister could really get me used to the good life! :teeth:

LOL as a kid I was a hotel snob - I got to stay at the great ones. As an adult who has to actually shell out the cash, I'm no longer a hotel snob :)

Although, I have to say that anywhere outside of WDW, I refuse to stay in any sort of hotel/motel that has doors opening to the outside and not to a hallway.

I'm sort of a hotel snob but thats because my parents have always treated me to very nice vacations so that's what I am used to.

I was going to go solo at the end of Aug and stay in a value but thats because the only way for me to go is to do it as cheap as possible (I start grad school in the fall and I have no permanent source of income).

Enter my boyfriend (who has never been to Disney before) and he says "I'll come with you"- fine- he loves New Orleans and I figured a value might be too much of a shock for him so I priced out POR (it was still going to be cheaper for me sharing the room at the more expensive hotel). Then he finds out that that wasn't where I was planning on staying alone and "wants" to stay in a value to save the money for other stuff  .

So we are staying at either ASMu or POP and hopefully when he sees the place he will just smile because I'm bouncing off the walls with excitement to get to the parks :Pinkbounc .

Same here. As far as WDW goes we've never stayed at a value resort. Always deluxe or at the villas since my dad joined DVC. But I'm going in October with some friends and we definately cannot afford anything above a value resort. Should be interesting for this hotel snob ;) :teeth:

I have to agree with that last statement. I really don't like the doors opening to the outside. That said, the place we are staying at in Michigan, they are all outdoor rooms, but it is on the beach facing Mackinac Bridge.
That is the only place I like it.

I have a funny story... I think. We did GF in Nov 2000 than BWI/ AKL concierge June 2001. Had the AP & Disney offered us $49.00 a night at ASM in Aug. So DH said go for it. DD who was 5 at the time goes into shock at Check-in & says in a loud Voice. "THIS IS NOT A HOTEL! WHERE IS THE LOBBY."

We were dying. We are walking to our room her first MOTEL stay & she was so confused.

I'm not sure what she thought we were doing...maybe she thought it was that Boarding School I always talk about. ;)

We had a great time & were very happy at the ASM.

I'm afraid I created the ULTIMATE hotel snob,... my SON! When I tell him we're going somewhere he asks "How many STARS does it have????" :earseek:

I've been a lot more "exposed" so to speak. But I think my younger sister is a lot like your son. That's too funny :p

DVC has spoiled us.

My wife only wants to stay in a 1 bedroom or greater when we takes Disney trips.

Staying at a Holiday Inn on other trips is out of the question.

I must admit though, I have gotten spolied myself.

Yeah I've turned DH into a hotel snob. I said we can stay at All Stars and get the dining all cheaper than our discount rate at BC but he just does not like the Alll Stars. Grrrrr, to me a room is a room. I don't plan on spending all my waking hours at a hotel but the WORLD!!

My mother is the same way! This past Sept-Oct'05 trip, we booked POP, we pulled up on the ME bus, the first words out of her mouth "oh I don't think so!"

We attempt to check in, our rooms aren't ready yet so we head to the food court. We eat and my brother's room is ready so we go and check it out......Nope Im not staying here, she says. "Better go and call the TA, cause we aren't staying here!"

I had to call our TA and switch our reservations to the Poly!

So much for trying to save money! :confused3

Some great replies here!! I should have added that not only have I created the hotel snob....but it has to be a champagne hotel on a beer budget. So, the better the hotel, the better the deal I find, the happier he is.

2005 trip: $221 for the week for the 2 bedroom condo (skyauction.com)
2004 trip: $249 for the week for the 2 bedroom condo (afvclub.com)
2001: Beach Club but ONLY due to an AWESOME discount code savings us 42% off waterview room for $189 / night
2000: Shades of Green (based on military rank) $66 / night
1999: Shades of Green (based on military rank) $59 / night

And that goes for car & airfare too.

So in other words, a deal on a cheaper hotel --- he won't really consider. Makes like hard, ya know!

Oh & my mother, who has NEVER gotten to stay in nice hotels, has become one too because of me. She's come on a few trips...and she's completely impressed with what I book & how much I pay. She takes tons of pictures & raves to all her friends about my deals. :rotfl2: (Little do they know about all my smart friends here on the DIS. LOL)

And because of this, I just got home tonight & was informed I'm to find 4 hotel rooms in NH for a wedding that the "family" needs to attend. I was put in charge because I find nice hotels for cheap.

DH and I are such hotel snobs!! We are condescending to stay at ASSp for a few days in May (mother's day weekend) because they didn't have any more mods available at our discount and the Deluxes were just way too much for 4 days (I am going back later in the month and staying at AKL for longer in a higher category for less than we would get over mothers day weekend). When making the reservations the lady asked if I wanted a preferred room to be close to the pool/food court.. I asked for one as far as I could get from the noise, on an upper floor, and with a king bed. She laughed.. I think she thought it was cute and such a different request than what she normally hears :)

DH is the same way...I made the mistake of booking our honeymoon at a Deluxe, and the three subsequent trips at Deluxes (due to great codes) and Universal's four star hotels, and now he feels like his privileged hindquarters must never touch a values' toilet seat.... :rotfl: :rotfl: We stayed one night at CSR because we added a day to the front of a vacation and he was NOT happy with the exterior corridors.

I, for one, would LOVE to stay at a value or moderate and save the change, but he keeps rationalizing it by saying, "We have the money now, once we have kids we'll have to sleep in our car!" Our future children are going to be pretty peeved when they find out we cheated them out of their WDW vacations!
