I don't think Waffle House "chefs" that have an ego on Hell's Kitchen are a good example of the ego of real Chefs.

I haven't recalled ever seen a genuine Waffle House or Denny's or similar short order cook on hell's kitchen. I have seen a couple right out of cooking school or line cooks. I've seen some personal chefs. But I haven't seen a Waffle House Cook. Not that there haven't been any. I just can't recall them. Those are a completely different breed entirely. I can tell you I know some very good short order cooks that can cook circles around some of the chefs on that show. Although personally, I think some of the chefs may either be plants or unstable people the producers deliberately let through the screening process even though they have no business being there. I just watched one threaten Ramsey and storm out the first day. Let's take this out in the parking lot!!!! He was clearly barely this side of totally mental. I really don't see how he could have gotten through without them knowing.

There was one a few seasons ago.

My daughters knew one of the contestants that IIRC, finished 2nd or 3rd. He worked in their college cafeteria.

I just watched the one where the men had to ride back to LA on a hot school bus and the girls got to see Celene Dion. Wait a minute. The guys lost? Why did they get the reward and the girls the punishment?
