I've been ripped off

I think someone just billed me for almost £540 for nothing. I've been conned. Activity registered on PayPal but I can't find the transaction anywhere there, or on eBay. Feeling kinda glum.

Don't follow the link in the email they sent.

If the activity doesn't show up on PayPal, it might be a spam/spoof/phishing email!

Change your password immediately, set up 2-factor authentication, and check back in 15 minutes or so (sometimes recent activity from PayPal takes time).

If they took it from your bank account (linked on PayPal), unlink the bank account immediately, contact your bank and tell them fraud!

I noticed it in my online statement under PayPal_WDGC. I checked PayPal and no, no such transaction in the last four months at least. Same with eBay. I've notified the bank and am on the phone. It would be nice to have that back. I kinda feel violated?

Agree with all of the advice given by @starry_solo and @cvjw.

Immediately change your passwords on PayPal, eBay, and your bank.
Call your bank ASAP.

Since I am overly cautious, I would debate putting a freeze on credit too if you aren't looking to do any big financial transactions soon. You can keep it frozen and put a lift off of it for a short time if need be for $10. Maybe a little over the top, but it would give peace of mind for this self proclaimed worrier. :)

I get emails all the time telling me that someone bought something worth a lot of money with my PayPal account. I put them straight into my spam folder. My PayPal account puts everything on my Chase credit card and I have the Chase account set up to text me and email me every time a purchase over $1.00 is made. So if I get no text or email from Chase then I know that the email from PayPal is a scam.

The phone calls I've been getting say I was was charged $499.99 for internet security renewal and if I want to dispute I must call the number and ????
Guess I've gotten a "good deal" since that's only £363.67 :duck:
