Can someone please help me. We are new DVCers even though we've gone as guests many years..... BUT going "home" this Saturday Sept 11th with our 8 children and my inlaws. We don't mind a little rain each day but Is Ivan predicted to "wash out" Disney that anyone can tell. My other question is, If the storm does come, how long do these things stay around. ONe more thing. My inlaws are going for the golfing primarily. DO they usually shut down the courses when it has rained this much and plans to rain more?
Thanks
Beth

Today is our last day to cancel I think to put things in holding.

Ivan is too far away to predicit where it will hit mainland.

but yes some of the computer models have it hitting South Florida - after that I haven't heard where it will go.

As far as how long, it completes depends upon the storm - some go fast like Charley and others slow like Frances. some are come and go in less than a half hour - others stick around for a couple of days like Frances - there is just no way to predict that this early.

are you getting a 2-bedroom - you will have plenty of room - go for it!!!!

if you are getting a studio - I might cancel....

Nobody here can predict what that storm will do. All you can do is watch the weather forcasts and make a judgement.

LOL...I heard one of our local meteorologists today on the radio. He predicted that Ivan will make landfall somewhere between Alabama and Mexico. Ha ha!

There is no way to have any idea of where it will make landfall at this point. Just stay informed and make plans accordingly.

I'd always plan on going...and make a decision 48 hours before. By then there are usually some pretty definitely signs if a hurricane will be in the vicinity.

I'll echo what everyone else on here stated...far too soon to tell.

BUT...I'll just throw this out there. I was watching a report on either MSNBC or Weather Channel and they used historical information based on the current path of Ivan. Based on that information it appears more likely that this hurricane will head into the Gulf of Mexico. Now...I'm not sure what that means for Florida since Charley was in the Gulf. But...it does appear to be taking a different course than Frances *today*. That could all change in the blink of an eye...but it may give you a little more information to help you make a decision.

Either way...it does look as though it may hit the U.S. again :( . Let's just hope that it veers off and heads northeast out to SEA!!!

Here's the latest storm track:

Although there's a chance you'll have to deal with Ivan in Orlando I certainly wouldn't postpone your trip. Since you won't be on the coast I'd say even if he does roll through it's unlikely that you'll experience anything more than moderate wind and rain (of course, I said the same about Charley and Frances).

But to be honest, if I personally had a trip to the Keys or the Gulf Coast scheduled, I'd cancel.

We're keeping our eye on it here in the Houston/Galveston area! BTW, who would name a hurricane anything associated with the word "terrible"??

I agree....that's just asking for trouble!!! . I am thinking about you guys in the Texas area. I sure hope he makes some weird turn out to sea or fizzles out! You guys must be keeping a close eye on the weather channel. We're all thinking of our friends in the Southeast as this hurricane season continues on!!!
:(
