Do the Apple retail stores sell them? If so, would this be possible...my son got $50 worth for Christmas that he doesn't want all of them. Would we be ablet o take the $50 one and buy (5) $10 ones? This wa I can give him the money and use them for some upcoming gifts that we need to give?

I doubt you can do that, as iTunes cards are intended to be used at the iTunes store for digital media purchases.

I agree with PP, these are not apple store gift cards, so I highly doubt you can use them to purchase other items.

The itunes cards do not expire, so your DS would use them eventually. If he really wants the cash now, you could buy them from him and then eventually re-gift them to him for a birthday or Christmas gift down the the road.

I have heard of people reselling gift cards on ebay or sites like plastic jungle, but that does not seem worth the trouble for $50 worth of itunes cards.

iTunes gift cards can be used for purchases in the iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store. Just have him apply the value to his iTunes account; he will eventually use the money.
