Ok, I am totally and completely frightened by spiders! After reading several posts about ITTBAB, I had convinced myself that I would be ok in this attraction. I have read that the spiders are more the "Cartoon" variety in this movie, and I figured that if it bothered me to look at them, I'd close my eyes during those parts.

Now I just read another post that mentioned "things" (and I am under the impression those "things" are spiders) "drop" from the ceiling during the show (kind fo like the "mice" run all over the floor and seats during HISTA in Epcot). Now if this information is correct, I DO NOT WANT TO ATTEND THIS SHOW!!! And neither will any of you who are there at the same time as me want me to attend this show!!!!  I become quite HYSTERICAL at the sight of spiders, and I would lose it COMPLETELY if I thought a spider was crawling/falling on me!!!

Please help me out here! Is this true? Will it feel like they are falling on me? It gives me the creeps to even THINK about it!!! Please help me from the embarrassment of hyperventalating and give me the inside scoop on this attraction!!

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO RESPOND TO HELP ME SAVE MY SANITY!!! :wave2:

I just sent you a PM as I don't want to post any spoiler info here.

You have read correctly. The theater gets dark and spiders fall fro the ceiling (on stings of course). I have enjoyed this attraction many times but almost each time, I have heard screaming kids that are walked out sobbing.
If you have a real fear of spiders I would suggest that you pass.

sunking ~ I may have to pass on this, I certainly don't want to be one of those "sreaming kids" that my husband has to remove from the theater because I'm sobbing so hard!! ;)

LOL about your husband removing you! I have a a bug phobic son who did fine during this show. I guess it just depends on how phobic you are. Afterall, it is just that good ole Disney magic at work! :teeth:

T&B

I understand your dismay. I have a friend who's afraid of clowns. (I dunno....don't ask....)

The spiders that fall from the ceiling are about a foot, to two feet large. They don't look at all real. They do come down from the ceiling, but they don't ever touch you.

I hate it when people try to coaxe you into something you don't want to do. Happened to me at Six Flags the other day. My crew tried to get me onto a roller coaster that I was not about to get on. (Two people were injured on this coaster, and one of those sets of injuries proved fatal)

The spiders don't look at all real and didn't bother me. Lots of other parts of the show bothered me and my 2 daughters A LOT. Like you, I'd read lots of posts about it being fun, Disney magic bugs. It was one of the few attractions we'd never tried. I thought what if I'm making us miss out on a fun show? I don't like to watch A Bug's Life, so that should've given me a clue. It may have been the power of suggestion (we were apprehensive going in), and we might do fine if we tried it again. However, none of us has the desire to ever try it again. DH was leading us out because I was weak. WDW is a big place. There's plenty of fun stuff to do w/o torturing yourself.

I would recommend skipping it! I've done that show twice - 1st time I didn't know any better & had the "heeby jeebies" for the rest of the day. 2nd time I thought, since I knew what was coming it wouldn't be as bad. But I was wrong! Since I knew what was coming, I was nervous & the suspense of WHEN the things that I remembered happening were going to happen just KILLED ME!!!

Like a pp said, there are so many other things to do at WDW, why stress over this. Personally, I don't think you're missing out, especially with your admitted fear of spiders.

Thank you all for all of your help. I THINK that as long as nothing actually "touches" me during the movie (like the mice do in HISTA), I will be ok. I will be prepared for the spiders coming down from the ceiling, and the "cartoonish" spiders on the screen (or off the screen as 3-D can make it appear). Is there anything else I should be aware of? I really want to see this with my family, but if you all think I should pass it up, then I will definitely heed your advice!

When there are bees on the screen, you get "stung" by a thorn that pokes out of the back of your seat. And at one point the bugs are "exiting" from the room and your feel like they are crawling over your feet. Just puffs of air like at HISTA. If you're like me and do a little dance when you think a bug is on you, only to find it's a stray hair or something, I still say you should skip it. :D

I think I see where you're going with this.

If your TRUE fear is spiders, there's not too much to worry about.

They do NOT simulate a spider swarm. Incredibly large spiders (like I said earlier - about one to two feet long....they're huge. They are blatantly NOT real) They do not blow air on your legs at this point, or do any kind of effects with the seats.

As others have said, however, there are some other effects that might make you squeamish if you fear ALL bugs to some degree and not just spiders.

!!!!!!!!HUGE SPOILER!!!!!!

When the show open, the curtain is actually butterflies, and there's some gentle air blown across your face to simulate the air movement their wings create. It's very gentle.

The first such effect is, ironically enough, a tarantula. It's a very cute, cartoonish tarantula voiced my Cheech Marin, but nontheless a tarantula. His method of self-defense is to throw poisonous darts. They simulate this by having him throw acorns at you with a slingshot made out of a spider web. As each acorn is released, you get a puff of air on your face.

I believe the termite-ator is next. He defends himself with deadly acid. You get a small squirt of water at this point to simulate acid.

I think the stink bug is next. No description necessary. No air, water, or any other effect coming at you - except for the stench.

At this point, Hopper makes an appearance. A fairly large animatronic version comes up from the side and sics his deadly army on you. First, he attempts to swat you with a fly swatter. Then, he sprays you with bug spray. They actually siumlate the bug spray with some dry ice, and the room gets foggy. At this point, he orders hornets to attack. If your back is on the seat, you will get a small poke in the back. THAT effect is easy to avoid by simply leaning forward so your back is not touching the seat back. I THINK it's at this point the spiders come down from the ceiling.

I don't remember how Hopper is overcome, but he is. The bugs then sing a cute little Broadway number:

We're pollenators! We're pollenators!
If you like vegetables, fresh fruit and flowers,
Give thanks to us bugs for our marvelous powers!
If it weren't for the fact, that we liked the taste,
You'd be out there wallowing in shoulder high waste!
And if all bugs were wiped off the face of the planet
There'd soon be no humans around here to man it
The best thing's about us - you can't live without us
Still it's tough to be a bug!!!

It ain't over yet. The butterflies will then fly back up to close the curtain. Bugs will then try to get out of the theatre before you. If your butt is on the seat, you feel a little squirm under your tush.

That's it in a nutshell as descriptive as I can be. I hope that helps you make up your mind either way.

(Dang - now I can't wait to see this show again!!!)

That is EXACTLY what I needed to hear!

SPIDERS are my phobia, not other bugs or insects! (I admit I don't really care for them, but I'm not "hyperventalatingly" SCARED of other bugs!)

I really think, after your full blown explanation, that I can deal with this attraction. I will be prepared for any encounters with spiders, and the rest of the bugs I can deal with.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
