It's TOUGH to Be a Bug - Long REFURB this Summer

Darn. We like that show too. I'm sad it won't be open while we are there. I was hoping for nothing closed for the summer. Oh well

Horrible timing!! I hope they don't change it too much, we love it the way it is!!
I have a feeling they will neuter the ride totally to satisfy all the whiny people. That's what they ended up doing with Alien Encounter.

Yep, that is a weird time to close it for refurb- during the hottest time of the year.

You'd think if it needed immediate attention, Disney would handle it sooner than July, unless their maintenance demands are too high now to work on it until then. (Must be everyone will be on call to fix the upcoming Mine Train breakdowns :p)

But since they're waiting three months from now, what does it matter if they push that back to September or October during the cooler and slower times?

Is this actually scary? I have not been on it, and will be there in September with my 2 and 4 year olds. They are not scaredy cats, and I didn't think this ride would be an issue for us. Assuming no major rehaul during the refurb, is this age appropriate for my daughters? Thanks!

My 4 year old thought it was a hoot. Just remind them ahead of time that there are no real bugs.

Do we know how extensive the refurb is going to be? It was shabby last time I went, which was probably over a year ago so I guess it's only gotten worse? On top of that, A Bug's Life is 16 years old and one of Pixar's weaker movies.

I'd love to see them gut it, extend the building (roots of the ToL) to the absolutely gargantuan (and unused) queue area outside, and put another walking trail in for all things creepy and crawly.

Maybe dual theme it with A Bug's Life and Wall-E and focus on insects, rodents, worms, snakes, bats, etc. Basically the ugly critters that everyone normally overlooks. It'd be great to have a really large building with A/C at Animal Kingdom too.

AK has so totally lost its focus on the animals and I feel like, with the Avatar expansion, it's only going to drift more and more. Oh well, I know it'll never happen.

My two girls, 5 and 8 were terrified and had to leave. Thier mom was glad she had an excuse to leave with them. I did warn them before about everything, but it was too intense. YMMV

We love it! Took my kids for the 1st time when they were DD5 and DS7, they loved it:) Going in Dec and taking my DS2 for his 1st trip and can't wait to take him...so glad it will be back open by then!!

My unscientific poll...it's about 50/50. My 4 year old nephew was terrified when he went on it and took years to go back. My 6 year old niece tensed up a number of times but ultimately loved it. Other people I've talked to had similar experiences with their kids...some loved it some were traumatized by it.

I took DGD when we were there for her 5th birthday. She loved it. Neither she or I never found anything scary about it.

Thanks! I tend to think we will be fine, so I'm going for it! Appreciate everyone's thoughts!

I was sad to hear about this refurb as it will be for our entire trip. We are traveling this year with my in-laws who haven't been to WDW since AK was being built and my MIL was hoping to see ITTBAB :(. DH and I always enjoy watching it (and people's reactions haha).
