It's Tony Time!!!

Anyone here seen Vanya and Sonya and Marsha and Spike?
My DH saw it on Friday. He said that he needed to know more Chekhov than he did (we've only seen 2 plays), especially Three Sisters because of all the inside jokes.

I think I'm showing my immaturity from way back in the 70's. :rotfl2:

I just found out that the Tony's are only being broadcasted on the West Coast in an hour or so. Isn't it being shown live throughout the US?

No, this isn't as big of a show as the Oscars. And not enough people get to see Broadway shows. If it wasn't for Neil Patrick Harris, the show might have moved to cable. He really saved the show for network TV, by bringing in the ratings.

I'll remember to read Chekhov then.

Sometimes they delay live broadcasts for the west coast in order to show in prime time and increase the number of viewers.

I see. Well, he's a great host for the Tony's and I loved the opening skit. So far, this gets my vote for the best award show this year.

I didn't even know Hal Prince was still alive, He's been such a legend for so long.

I saw Phantom at the West End. Didn't see Sarah Brightman; her understudy was on. But Michael Crawford was playing Phantom that show. He was great.

Sally Field should have worn this dress for the Oscars. It suits her so much better!

Go Christine! That was no lip syncing either! :woohoo:

I've always loved the Phantom of the Opera. That I DID get to see with the original cast. :thumbsup2

Tickets back then were only like $65.

British Pounds of 17.50 for a matinee production on a Saturday afternoon. Middle section in the stalls/orchestra section.

How times have changed.

Excellent! I was hoping she would perform.

I likes seeing Cyndi perform too. But, they should have done some split-screen or something. It was hard to read the people and what they did, from the camera angles they used. :headache:

Could she have been anymore stunned by her name being called out?

The Tony Awards is actually very expensive to produce. I had never really thought about it. I thought all the actors just show up on their nite off from doing their shows.

But, the newspaper here said that each of the musical numbers they do costs tens of thousands of dollars to bring their full sets to that theatre to set up in one day, and then back out to their own theatres again.

WOW! That's quite a production then. I'll keep watching the show for as long as they broadcast it on TV. It's great.

Oh, well, I guess no cheap tickets for Pippin now. :lmao:
