:wizard: My 23 yr. old daughter and I are planning our August trip and are considering the POR. We love CBR but because of the pool renovation we thought maybe we should try something different. We have never visited the POR on our other stays so have no idea which building to request or where the best place to be is. We have been looking at all the pictures online and like the look of the mansions. For the first time visiting WDW we are not renting a car and were wondering about the bus service. If we make dinner reservations at one of the other resorts, will the bus take us to that resort or do we have to go to the TTC?
Any advice would be appreciated....Thanks pixiedust:

I think you will love POR. We were there recently and requested a room "closest to the main building" and were placed in Aligator Bayou Bldg 18. We thoght the location was perfect. It was our second stay at POR - the first time we weren't impressed at all (the walk to our building seemed VERY long to us). But given that the other two moderate pools were closed and the only other one left was booked - we decided to give it another chance.

As for getting to other resort hotels, we would take a bus to DTD and then change busses there, or a bus to a park and change there. You also could always take a cab. The fares are reasonable.

Enjoy your trip!! Please feel free to ask any more questions!

One more thing - anyone planning on visiting POR should check out Bob Jackson, the piano man in the lounge. His show, meant for all ages, was so much fun. I would almost consider staying there just to see him again! The kids had a ball, too!!! :thumbsup2

We're staying at POR for the first time during the first week of April - can't wait!!!!

We will be the sickly pale people with silly grins. (At least until we acclimate back to the world... Please mouse, we need some sunshine!)

Just call the number you used for reservations, they will note it on your ressie but cannot guarantee anything, you can also fax your request a couple of days before you check in to the resort, attn: room assigner. I don't know if it helps but it cannot hurt.

Ok, I just booked POFQ for 9/26 - 9/28 for the F & W festival:)

My only request was for a corner room..not sure what bldg to request...checked out the map...looks like there may be 2 bldgs that arent near parking lots...? Not sure...

Was suppose to stay here in 2003 for our wedding with all our guests...until they informed us a few months prior..."Oh we are closing for refurbishment!"

What type of room category do you have? King or Dbl, standard or water view? I have standard view in AB, dbl with trundle. I requested a corner, but they said that was only King beds...

We're planning a trip for the very beginning of May, 2009. We usually stay at CSR, but I wanted to try something different this time. Can anyone tell me if the wait for the buses at Port Orleans are really that long?

Also, does anyone know when the rooms were last refurbished or if there's a refurbishment coming soon?

TIA for everyone's help!!! :goodvibes

I booked a standard.....and *requsted* a corner room...this is at POFQ..not sure if it is the same over at POR....
I am pretty sure I have seen photos (while researching) that had double beds and the corner..(2 windows)....!

Last year we had a corner room and a great view of the parking lot, so I am sure it was standard. It was in building 17, but not sure of the room number.

We usually get in building 39, 2nd floor, corner room, 2 double beds, over looking the quiet pool. It is such a wonderful location. It is only a short walk to the bus stop and the food court. On the map it looks further away from everything than it really is.

we were in room 3905, had corner room with 2 windows, double beds with the trundle. it was a water view, but having the pool a few steps from our door was perfect! it was a walk to get to the main house for dinner at the fantastic food court  but only a few mins to get to the bus stop, and the grounds are beautiful!!!

Not true. We stayed in a standard corner room last year in Bldg 16 that was a corner with two doubles and a trundle,

Okay, I'm up to page 84 on this thread :thumbsup2
But I'm bursting with questions!

A little stage setting:

DH & I will be going for the first time ever to POR. A decent DING fare popped up so this will be fast, but hopefully more relaxed than past trips.
We will be going 9 thru 12 May this year, our 1st trip ever in May.

We know we like the look of the Mansions and that's a definite.

Because I wilt (translate: become foul tempered & look worse) in the 'heat' (anything over 78 degrees  ), won't be renting a car this time out & are doing the DDP, I would like to get a room within an easier walking distance of bus stop, food court and with luck, the quiet pool, though the pool is not a deal breaker. I am also crazy about landscaping. Usually we are laid back about room assignments, but due to the above & the short time frame, I'm concerned.

Any photos or room number suggestions?

From this thread I have so far, pieced together Oak manor near the bridge facing the quiet pool?
does this sound okay?

This time out we have a room reserved (POR) 3 nights & with the DDP for $688.
DH feels this is not a great price. We have APs, Disney Visa, AAA etc.
I'm on the fence here. In the past it seems like we've gotten better pricing. :confused3

Our last trip was in January & we both fell hard for POFQ!

Thanks in advance for any pics, advice or comments!

Jean

I just found out yesterday that my Father in Law is making my Disney dream trip come true! He's taking me and my husb in November and we're staying at POR. Can't wait!!!

I'm reading backwards on this thread to learn more about POR and get the excitement going!

In 2005 we stayed we stayed in building 85 which is Magnolia Terrace, this was very close to a quiet pool and the bus stop and only a couple of minutes walk from the main building and restaurant :thumbsup2
