Hi everyone,

I just got a quote from dreams unlimited and the quoted a room at POR and I just don't know much about it. We (dh, me ds11, ds14) are value resort people. I have tried to read thru this thread and there is so much.

I guess I need to know the basics, the readers digest version of this hotel.

Oh she booked us here because they still had free dining rooms.

Please Help
Deanna :bored: :cat:

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for? The difference between a value and a mod, specifically POR? The rooms are a bit bigger, they have ceiling fans, a small dorm size fridge is standard... POR has many amenities to take advantage of, and I recommend that you try to take time to do so. There is a carriage ride for $35, bike rentals, boat rentals, cane pole fishing, 2 great themed pools along with several quiet pools, beautiful landscaping, River Roost lounge where you can watch Piano Man Bob Jackson perform Wed-Sat nights @ 8:30pm, a great food court with many offerings (try the choose your own pasta!), etc. It is a lovely resort with so much to do, you won't be bored.

HTH!! Have a great time.:flower3:

PS Check out allearsnet.com under the resorts for pics of POR and more info.

Thank you,

I'm not sure what I am looking for either. I guess just justification in spending 50.00 more a night when we have been happy in the values. I have looked at the pics and it looks great.

I just realized that MNSSHP is Friday night. DO you think that 11 and 14 are to old for this? We have never been to that party(I know I will check out the other boards also)

Thanks
Deanna :bored: :cat:

The love bugs were pretty brutal when we were there, but nothing compared to some of the pics I've seen on here. DS4 was totally freaked about them, but by day 7 or so he had learned to co-exist with them LOL

So who can tell me about love bugs? What is the "season" for them? I suspect by their being refered to as "brutal" they are far from lovely ... do tell!!popcorn::

There are several threads on the DIS about them, but I'm not sure if search is working. They are little bugs that fly around attached to each other. They are harmless - don't bite or sting - but they tend to swarm so that can be annoying. They are out in mostly out in May and September IIRC. HTH

Hi everyone! I stayed at POR in 2004 and loved it. I am just at the beginning of planning a new trip to WDW and was thinking of returning to POR.

However, having stayed at AKL during the last trip, I really liked that it was not so spread out and we were really close to the food court there, which was great for the refillable mugs. I was wondering what your experiences at POR were with regard of getting the room you requested? Last time I requested AB and got to stay in the Mansions (which we liked), but this time I would really want to be close to the food court!

So, from your experiences, how are my chances that this request would be honoured?? We are thinking about end of January, early February, so most likely not the busieset time at WDW.

We requested a king corner room on the second floor over a quiet pool in bldg 18...and got exactly that!!! We obviously knew we would have the king room because we paid for it, but we asked for all the rest hoping to get bldg 18 at the very least, and we got everything we asked for! This was 5/6-5/12 of this year btw. It can't hurt to ask, and I would say at that time of year you have a great shot of getting your requests.

We've paid for a water view room but I'm worried we'll get a pool view. I've read it's a good idea to request a river view at check in, but has anyone here requested a river view and gotten a pool view?

Does anyone happen to know where the handicapped king rooms are in the mansion section or the bayous? We have thus far only stayed in POFQ. Thanks so much for any help you can give.

I did just the opposite. We requested river view and got a pool view. I was mad until we got to the room. Our room was second floor, corner room that over looked a quiet pool. We loved it!!! After walking the grounds, we were glad that we did not get the river view. WE requested the same room for this year, we liked it that much.

Anyone have a pic (or know of one) of the current design of the refillable mugs?

We haven't been since 2003. I'm hoping they are different, so I don't end up with 2 with the same design. :teeth: Thanks!

We returned on Sunday from POR. If anyone has any questions, I will try my best to answer them.

Could you give a brief review? Any problems? Anything wonderful or unexpected?? How was the room? Any details you could give would be great. We are going in 63 days and I'd love to hear your experience!!

Thanks
Kimba

We leave in 71 days and any info. would be nice. :) :)
I am writing a TR (shameless plug for it, I know). I was in bldg 18, which was a former smoking room. I am a total nonsmoker and did not want this but checking in at 1 am did not help. Anywho, there was absolutely positively no trace of smoke in it whatsover and I even did the deep nose sniff test in the mattress and pillows! This bldg was great and very convenient to the food court and Ole Man Island plus right next to the private pool and laundry facilities, and bus stops were not that far. You would use the South Depot which is the main bldg. The biggest complaint I had with were with how far the bus stops were at the parks. It seemed that POR bus stops were always the furthest away and always standing room only in the morning and evening.

My kids loved both pools and even my 2-year-old daughter was able to go down the slide at the main pool as I was able to catch her at the bottom.

I'm not sure what else to tell right now. Any specific questions may help or if I can think of something significant, I will post it.

DM, thanks for the information. We stayed in a non-smoking room at Building 18 in 05 and location-wise it was pretty good. I was wondering if the formerly smoking rooms have been given a deep clean. I'm glad you didn't notice any smoke smell.

What time did you check in, and was your room ready at arrival? Our plane lands at MCO at 8:50 AM, so we'll be checking in early in the day. I don't expect our room to be ready, but it would be nice to have the room right away.

We checked in at 1 am! :scared1: So, I'm sure that would not help you. Obviously, our room was ready at that time. If anyone is going to be checking in at that horrible hour, the one bad thing about it is that the computer system is down at that time so changes aren't available. They also could not take my credit card information at that time and we had to go back another time for that.

Have you considered POFQ? It is much more compact than POR.
