We started our DVC savings fund! A journey of a thousand (or multiple thousands in this case :lmao:)steps starts with one, right? :thumbsup2

Good for you.... which Disney resort do you want to buy into?

Yea! :thumbsup2

It was 12 years from "wanting" to buy to "reality" for us. Lots of things inbetween, getting married, buying a house, selling a house, buying another house, graduate degree (loans still present!), having a baby...

We were fortunate enough to have other family members as owners we could leverage for trips :rotfl:, but so happy to buy-in for ourselves this past year (and added on less than 9 months later ).

It will seem like a long journey whether 12 months or 12 years, but we're all here to support you!!

Congratulations on the advance planning! I think that's a smart way to go.

Thanks everybody! I love this place.

We would like to buy into BWV, I think. But we go back and forth between all of them. And then back and forth. LOL But, probably BWV or AKL.

Unless our circumstances change (ie, if we get pregnant), I'm looking at the winter of 2012 for our first buy-in. We would really like to pay cash, but I'm not sure if that's completely doable.

It is doable if we buy resale, but are the extra perks of buying straight from Disney worth the extra money? We can't decide!

Thanks again for all the support! :cheer2:

Most would say the current perks for direct are not worth the 2 to 2.5x premium you'll pay for those points. You could pay for a lot more points and rent them or pay for those vacations out of pocket for the difference.

We've used our points for a cruise once, that is the only thing we've done you can't do now. Otherwise our exchanges have been those you could still do.

My only concern is, what additional changes will they make down the road?

Congrats...and you have our :thumbsup2 on saving and paying cash rather than financing! Great financial planning! Good luck!:goodvibes

Good for you!! Most would say the perks they have taken away are not a good use of points anyway. You'll need to look at it for yourself, but the price difference can be huge and if you are OK never using your points at ABD the Cruise line or the other options then it's a much better deal. Where are you looking to buy? VGC resales seem to be much closer to Disney prices than the other resorts.

Sounds like you have a great plan! Buying resale will save you alot, and I can only imagine what kind of deal you may strike if the prices keep falling through winter 2012. As others have said, the extras you get from buying direct are probably not worth the added cost.

Since AKV and BWV are on your radar, keep in mind that the contract for AKV will be 15 years longer, so that should be an important factor in your decision making. Someone on these threads recently posted an AKV resale purchase price of $67/pt for 100 points which passed ROFR. BWV can still be had for $10-15 less per point than that, but the extra expense may be worth it for the extra 15 years.

Good luck!!:thumbsup2
