It's Official! Tusker House turning into TS

I'm glad to hear this, I didn't like Tusker House, I ate there twice and both times it was horrible.

I realize that it is sad that one of WDW's best CS restaraunts is being converted but honestly, it makes a TON of sense.

First, I think they are trying to relieve some of the congestion that is occurring in Africa. Converting a CS to a TS helps do that because TS locations theoretically have less capacity.

Second, the AK just doesnt have any TS rest and needs some if they plan on keeping people longer in the park. They need more dining options as they increase the night time activities.

Third, a buffet may not satisfy a lot of people that go to the parks alot, but it is a major draw to families with a lot of picky eaters. In addition, the restaraunt can maintain serving the rotisserie chicken and salmon which would be excellent options on a buffet. Honestly, a buffet is the first logical TS addition to a park.

I was a HUGE fan of Tusker House and I probably will remain a fan after it is converted. I do wonder slightly what they are going to do with the outdoor seating area that surrounds the outdoor performance area.

Well I was running variables through the M5 computer (star trek reference) and logic dictates that if Tusker house is closing on August 20th, then it is logical that Yak & Yeti will be opening on or near August 20th?

Anyone wanna agree or disagree? I realize that is the time of year they start to slow down from the summer crowd... but to take such a major location offline would still over whelm the other locations?

I was thinking the exaact same thing. With the limited dining options available as it is now, I can't imagine taking Tusker House offline without Yak and Yeti opening to take some of the slack off Pizzafari and Flametree. Well, I am hoping this is the case anyway, as I'll be at WDW in October, and I would love for Y&Y to be open by then. Wishful, but hopeful.

Adding my voice to the chorus of "my favorite CS spot on property."

But, as with all things Disney, stuff changes. And I'll reserve judgement until I pull up a chair at the new Tusker House, and see if another good CS pops up somewhere.

If Disney were the same place I visited in 1971, I doubt I'd return twice a year. So change ... I'm OK with it.

:furious: I have to voice my displeasure on this one!
We made special trips to AK just for Tusker breakfast and sometimes lunch. Gone is the best CS in the World!!! :furious:

Bummer. I loved Tusker House. It was the best thought when it first opened and had Prime Rib :) Better eat that next week for one last hurrah!

It will be interesting to see what Yak & Yeti has.

I still have trouble with the name though! :headache:

ITA. When I say it out loud, it sounds like I am trying to hack up a furball or something. And having the word "yak" associated with someplace I am going to eat is, well, kinda scary :scared1: ! I am hoping we won't be seeing yak on the menu.

I must also jump on board and say that my family is very disappointed with the closure of Tusker House. In my opinion, it is the best CS in all of WDW. We ate there 2 times last year and our meals were excellent. I always recommended TH to my friends. We were planning on eating there again this Oct...oh well:sad2:

I am sad to see it go. :sad1:

Does anyone know if the musicians that performed outside TH will still perform? Is so, where? That is one of my favorite things to do at AK. I love watching the folks get up and dance. Always entertaining!;)

Dumb question and it may have already been asked but how are they going to do a dinner when the park is always closing at 5-5:30????

I'm really disappointed by this. I won't be eating there once it switches, even though TH was our favorite CS restaurant.

I understand the I'm in the minority. But here's why it doesn't work for my family.

We are VERY light eaters. When we go to TH, I order one rotisserie chicken and one salmon, and two drinks for the family (typically 4 of us). I use my DDE discount (which probably will go away at CS there once they open TS restaurants, so another big boo). So I spend about $24 to feed my family, and we're full, and the food was healthy.

Now Disney will ask $24 per person for what is likely the same meal. It's not worth the money to me. I guess it will be flame tree for food at AK now. It is okay, but not as good as TH in my opinion. DD doesn't eat pizza, and I haven't even told my kids about the restaurantasaurus since they eat too much McDs anyway!

The info said that Donalds Breakfastosauraus will be discontinued and will only be a counter service establishment. Maybe they did this because Tusker House is larger than the Restaurantosauras - it is a shame, we really enjoyed Tusker House

Hmm, we have dnalds breakfast for October :confused3 ADRS already - I hope they will still remain?

I think it could be really great as long as it's an African themed buffet like Boma...IMHO Lion King or Jungle Book characters would be better than Donald Duck.
