You wouldn't think this would need validation but...

Obama wins, officially

It really is official now.

Barack Obama is the 44th president after the Congress met in joint session today to count the Electoral College votes from the November election.

Obama won with 365 electoral votes, far more than the 270 required, while Republican rival John McCain won 173.

Vice President Dick Cheney, in one of his last actions as president of the Senate, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi presided over the ceremonial, but constitutionally required state-by-state tally.

So, is it now OK to call him President Elect?

BTW, I just loved his speech today. It left me with a feeling of....dare I say the word?.......yes, I'll say it.....HOPE

Hooray!

I propose a national day of celebration in honor of this auspicious occasion.

I say we call it, "National -Nothing to do with Blagejovich Day".

or maybe "National Day of Congress -they can count?"

I am all verklempt.

Im glad that it now official.
Folks that like to wait for someone to improve their lives instead of doing it themseves can rejoice.
Of course, they are in for a long wait.
I never understood how people can put so much stock as to who is leading this nation concerning their OWN lives.
As for most of us, it doesnt matter who the President is. We live our lives to the fullest and are always positve and optimistic.
I look to no one but me to succeed, it seems Obama supporters look elsewhere.
However, Obama IS now MY President. I will support him and wish him the best.
I may disagree with him on issues, but im man enough to respect him as the leader of the free world.
It just saddens me as to how many people seem to depend on thier happiness as to who is in the White House.

I will respect him in a way that many of his supporters refused to accept President Bush.

I've been calling him High Holy One, because I think it's funny the way some of his supporters worship him-but I will stop. He's the President now and I shouldn't be name-calling him just because of the ignorance of some of his followers.

As for me, my happiness certainly has nothing to do with the occupant of the oval office. My happiness comes from a Higher Authority.

Wow - there is a wild sweeping assumption

I will speak for my own personal opinion - Bush was an embarrassment, and I cringed every time he spoke on the world stage.

For me personally - I am happy that my vote went to an articulate, intelligent, broad-minded individual, such as Obama. I also think its cool I am seeing history in the making (first Aftrican American President)

Disclaimer - I was originally behind Hillary. Both of their platforms were similar - it was an easy switch for me.

I look to no one but me to succeed, it seems Obama supporters look elsewhere.

There you go again.

However, Obama IS now MY President. I will support him and wish him the best.

That is nice to hear.

Being a political junkie - I am happy someone who shares my political philosophy will be leading our country - but my happiness isn't dependent upon it.

On 1/20/09 I will be raising the American flag at my home and proudly!

It has been very humiliating for the past 8 years...:sad2:

That is really funny :lmao:

So when do you think the media will get around to calling him "Mr. Obama" instead of the ubiquitous "President Elect Obama"?

Unfortunately, with Bush being the worst president ever, it was way too important that Obama start work immediately.

:thumbsup2

I agree with 0% of Obama's politics but I wish him well as our 44th President. :goodvibes I'll give him my full respect regardless of how I feel about his politics. Goodness knows he needs all the well-wishes he can get once he gets in the Oval Office and has to deal with the mess we're in.....

I think it's really unfortunate if you let a political administration "steal" your sense of pride in your country. There is so much more to raising the flag and feeling a sense of patriotism than who resides in the WH.

I take pride in seeing my American flag wave no matter who's running the country..... I'm proud to be an American whether GWB is President or Obama is.

I was proud to be an American but unable to celebrate my countries engagement in an unjust, deadly war...That changes in 11 days...;)

I support Obama, but everyone knows that either Jackson or Buchanan(sp?) are the worst presidents ever....
