It really is official now.
Barack Obama is the 44th president after the Congress met in joint session today to count the Electoral College votes from the November election.
Obama won with 365 electoral votes, far more than the 270 required, while Republican rival John McCain won 173.
Vice President Dick Cheney, in one of his last actions as president of the Senate, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi presided over the ceremonial, but constitutionally required state-by-state tally.

It should be a celebration of the tradition our country has of a peaceful exchange of powers.
I'll give him my full respect regardless of how I feel about his politics. Goodness knows he needs all the well-wishes he can get once he gets in the Oval Office and has to deal with the mess we're in.....
