I've been a die hard, loyal MAC makeup girl for well over a decade. I love the coverage over my splotchy skin and the flawless look it gives. It's the makeup that my makeup artist friend and others use on TV shows & movies. :thumbsup2

But, I haven't liked to wear foundation every day as:
  • I can't stand all the time it takes applying with a makeup sponge.
  • I don't like how foundation clogs my skin.
  • I don't like all the waste of synthetic makeup sponges in the garbage.
But, I have a chronic medical condition and I look sickly now with pale, even more splotchy skin. So I need something I can put on everyday, that will give me some color and coverage, without taking too long.

I liked the idea of mineral makeup. I swipe on blush that is a powder. I even bought a sample kit of Everyday Minerals a few years ago, but none of the colors matched me, so I gave up on that idea.

I went to a Bare Minerals store last week and got color matched. Then I used some Amazon gift cards that I had and bought the matte foundation from an Amazon affiliate. I put it on today. I didn't even have one of the BM brushes. I used a cheapy E.L.F. flat head brush (didn't give quite enough coverage,) and pushed it in more with a thin foundation brush.

I LOVE the coverage and it was soooo quick to put on! :woohoo: I dusted my usual MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural translucent powder over it (instead of buying Mineral Veil) and set it by gently patting my face with a square of damp, folded paper towel. (A trick I learned on how to set powders by getting rid of the "powder look," from my makeup artist friend. :thumbsup2 ) I even looked better an hour later. :cool1:

I'll keep my MAC foundation for when I'm going to wedding receptions where I may be in a lot of pictures.:thumbsup2 But, for everyday wear, I'm sticking to Bare Minerals. :lovestruc

We've had Bare Minerals/Mineral makeup threads in the past. How many of you have stuck with mineral makeup? Any tips or tricks? What brushes do you use? I'm thinking of buying the E.L.F. kabuki brush for $6. Should I just spring for a BM kabuki brush?

I haven't had very good luck with the BM brushes. They always start to lose hairs after about three months.

I use the Eco Tools ones.

I'm glad you're loving BM!

I stopped using the foundation when I ran out a few months ago. I got a cheapy Loreal True Match mineral powder and fell in love!!! I still use the veil and eye shadows though.

I too am not a big fan of the BM brushes, they shed on me! I love Eco tools and have heard great things about real technique brushes. Both are reasonably priced. I used to use BM foundation, I have the regular and matte, I prefer the matte. I still use it time to time but my main foundation is Kat Von D, LOVE it

Went to sephora to try out the sephora brand foundation, as it was cheaper than BM, and oh so conveniently, they were out of my color, ended up being convinced to buy Kat Von D which just so happened to be more expensive than BM, my plan worked so well huh?

I'm not a huge fan of mineral makeup, but for brushes look at the Real Techniques brand. You can find them at Ulta. They are great brushes and pretty cheap.

Yep love ultra and mineral vail.

Buy really nice brush makes all the difference

I have been using BM for a long time and love it. I have never had a problem with their brushes.

Yup. It's been 7 years now for me. I stopped getting the mineral veil about a year ago and instead I choose the prime time primer as my third component in my shipments (I get it every 3 months). I LOVE that you get a free gift with every shipment too if you join their mailing program!

My entire family uses it!
My only problem is my skin sometimes has a reaction to the makeup or brushes and I start to itch, and turn bright red. But it doesn't always happen.

I was a MAC girl all through my 20's and early 30's. Then after my second baby (and years of fighting a thyroid problem myself!) it just didn't seem to be working and I tried bare minerals. I've been a convert ever since. My makeup looks amazing with bare minerals. Love the stuff!

Kind of off topic but I can't believe no one has introduced you to a foundation brush (especially if you have friends who are makeup artists!). Using a sponge is totally wasting foundation! I would say a good 80% of the foundation ends up in the sponge. And a liquid foundation shouldn't clog your pores if it's oil free and if you wash it off at night.

I know it doesn't matter because you've switched but I think it's a misconception that liquid makeup clogs pores. I personally have only tried Bare Minerals once and didn't care for it. I found it shiny on my skin and it make a total mess. They do however have beautiful eyeshadows! The pigments are amazing! And I like their lip glosses!!

Thinking about making the move into a mineral makeup of some kind, but haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do. My DDs are both convinced Bare Minerals is the best & that's what they wear.

I did get a Bare Minerals eye kit for Christmas that I really love, particularly the primer. As far as the shadow itself I actually prefer the Urban Decay palette, which absolutely cracks my DH up -- what kind of a name is that for makeup, doesn't sound right.

Does anyone know if the mineral veil is the step that winds up leaving the white, ghost face look in flash pictures?

I tried Bare Minerals at the recommendation of my dermatologist. I liked how it felt. However, it did not do crap to cover my rosacea. I'd put tons of makeup on and in 30 minutes my red skin would be showing back through. I tried all their tips for rosacea and it didn't work. However, I could see how BM would be great for someone without rosacea. Glad you like it!

Can you tell me more about this foundation brush? How does that work?? :flower3:

No it doesn't. It kind of just gives(to sound like the infomercial) an "airbrushed" look. It minimizes the look of your pores. I only use it on my nose, chin and forehead.

When I picked up the Loreal True Match mineral makeup I expected it to just be a stand in until my shipment of BM came in. I actually like it BETTER as a foundation because I feel like I get more coverage.

Just wanted to say that the EM people are awesome about helping you find the right color, and if you emailed them and told them what shade BM works best for you, they'll match it to the right EM color. Did it for me and I was very happy. :) I love that it's a lot cheaper than BM, doesn't contain the ingredient in BM that causes a lot of people to itch and have red skin, you always get free smaples, and their shipping is super fast. Love Everyday Minerals!!

I've never had much success with foundation brushes. I just use my fingers.

If you all like Bare Minerals, you would absolutely fall in love with Glo Minerals. It's hard to find other than the internet or a cosmetic surgeon's office, but I stand by this product 110%. it is simply amazing. And no-I don't work for the company! LOL

For those who can't get enough coverage from BM or don't like the mess, have you tried their Ready pressed foundation? I LOVE it, I don't use the loose foundation anymore, the Ready works so much better for me.

Did you try their concealer brush? It's a special flat brush. I put the foundation on as usual with their kabuki brush, and then I use the concealer brush to cover any rosacea break outs. Just put some foundation on it, tap, and pat the red areas with the brush. Don't swipe or swirl, just pat.

Works great for me, and lasts hours.

Yes. It's very different than a powder brush or a blush brush. The hair is different. So you can work with it a couple of different ways. You can either dab some foundation on your cheeks, nose, forehead and chin and blend it all in with the brush or I know some people put a little on the back of their hand and dip the brush in and apply that way. I prefer to dab it on my face and blend. It's great because it spreads your foundation evenly and you end up using less foundation. You can get around your nose and under your eyes easily. I rinse mine out with a little of my cleanser. Get rid of those makeup sponges ladies!!!! You're wasting your foundation!
