We drove down to Florida last week and spent time in Orlando and Clearwater. Had a great time, however I have officially annointed Florida drivers as the worst drivers in the US.

Why do people in FL ride in the left lane, the lane designated for passing? I spent a lot of time in the right lane with no traffic. On I-4 the middle and left lanes would be packed, but nobody would be in the right lane. I just didn't get it. "Slower traffic keep right", have they not heard of that?

Oh, and then there is that special person who is doing 55mph (70 mph speed limit) in the left hand lane. Sure, you can flash them, but they are not getting over, the left lane is theirs.... forever.

And then the people in Florida who speed up and then slow down. They'll pass you, pull in front and slow down so you have to repass them. Then they'll speed up and pass again, only to slow down. Drives me batty.

Congrats Florida, you have the worst drivers in the US. Even CA wasn't as bad.

You forgot my two favorites - not using their signals and tailgating! :rotfl:

Yeah, I forgot about the tailgating. That was nuts. Legally you're supposed to have a 2 second gap between you and the car in front of you. I always leave a lot of space between me and the car ahead, but inevitably someone would always pull into the space ahead of me.

As for transplants, well my stepsister is a transplant living in Florida and she said she didn't start driving bad until she had been there for about 3 years.

Are you sure you weren't in MA?

We have a special name for those people-tourists!:lmao::lmao:

My favorite drivers are the ones in the right lane that SUDDENLY need to be in the far left lane and just cross over.

A few years ago we were down in FLA and there was this big traffic jam on the highway from Tampa to Orlando. Found out later on the news that an elderly lady was in the left lane, stopped, put her signal on to get off on the exit ramp which was on the right side of the highway. Caused a big pile up.

Some of the drivers I saw my two years in Clearwater were unbelievable. Between tourists not knowing where they are going and elderly drivers that have no business on the roads any more it was always interesting.

What drove me crazy were the snow-birds that came down in the winter and clogged up the roads for morning rush hour. If you don't have to be on the roads for the morning commute don't be. The breakfast buffet will still be there in an hour. The drive that took me 20 minutes in the summer took me an hour some days in the winter.

I lived right off of US-19N which is a pretty dangerous road and I saw a couple of accidents caused by a "blue-hair" ( as my boss down there called them) pulling out in front of a semi doing 50. Apparently they forget the laws of physics upon retirement.

I resent that statement.

As a born and bred Mass-hole, I'm proud of our title as worst drivers.

Because, what it really means is that we found a new way of driving that the rest of the country hasn't caught up to yet and that we can adapt to any kind of driving scenario.

Why do you think we still have rotaries up here? Convenience? Functionality?

No, no, no... Practice! pirate:

"Big Ben kids... Parliament."

I take it you've never lived in SC or DE the driving here in SC is Horrible!!!

Hehe come down to Miami if you really want to see driving at its worst.

Nothing like crossing 5 lanes of traffic from the far left to the far right just to make a turn!

Ooo or making a U-turn during a red light!

Then there is not using your turn signals or being cut off every other block.

Or my personal favorite, driving during rush hour stop and go traffic and the guy in front of you has NO BREAK LIGHTS!!!!

As a Miami Native my out of town friends are always terrified of getting in the car with me and I have no idea why

The majority of people stopped in dangerous weird places on World Drive are not usually Floridians.

We also call them Q-tips :rotfl:

Let's not condemn the entire state. I was born and raised in Florida.

I once had a speeding ticket and attended a class so I could keep my good driver. One gentleman raised his hand and stated that the reason he was here was because of the lousy Florida drivers. The instructor turned to the entire class which was quite large (we met in a hotel meeting room) and asked how many were Floridian's only a very small number raised their hands. Most of the class were from out of state.

I was young at the time and decided to never do that again. It was a lot of complaining about why they had to be there.

I was also born and raised in Florida and have never received a ticket (even for parking), nor been in an accident. Still, I agree, we have horrible drivers. The worst for me is when I'm driving to work at 6:00 in the morning. There's no one else on the road, yet I always seem to have someone tailgating me and flashing their high-beams for me to change lanes. I'm usually going at or slightly above the speed limit - just go around me and next time leave for work a little bit earlier!
