It's not complicated but DVC not helping...

I have a ressie for 7 nites in December. I will not be able to make the last five nites and perhaps not even the first two... so I have an agreement to rent out those five nights with another DVCer.
Now, because the ressie is time-valuable, I do not want to cancel the first two days as I may go after all. But DVC will not change the ressie to show me on the first two, and my renter on the last five. They will just add her name to the entire ressie. As you might guess, the renter will probably not like this, being inadequate proof of rental, as DVC is not, in the words of the cast member, creating anything printable.
The points related to the first two nights are also subject to holding, and I am trying to rent those out as just points so I don't have this headache any more.
Please advise how you would go about this. I want my renter to feel comfortable that she has a confirmed ressie for her nights but I also want the option of having those first two nights available to me if I should decide to use them.
Thanks!

I would see if you could interest them in all the nights and then pay cash for whatever nights you can swing.

Or cancel the first two nights, and pay cash for the two nights if you go, or since those points will go into holding, use them if you can. I can't imagine why they wouldn't split the reservation. What if you canceld the whole thing and rebooked? Would they allow you to do that, or again, just change the reservation to 5 nights, change the name on it, and book he 2 seperately. I would call back and ask for a supervisor on this one.

Being that the ressie is during a very busy time (Christmas/NY) they say that cancelling the 2 nights would probably cause them to be 'unrecoverable' as they would then feed the waitlist. This makes sense to me.
Re a supervisor: I have a question on protocol... does one say that the nights are rented vs 'given to a friend'?

I would say given to a friend, especially during the holidays. I would think they wouldn't have a problem changing the name and dropping the days. But I would think in this day and age, that they would be able to suspend the reservation to make changes and not loose the room?

You're right, I think they CAN -- they just WON'T. And yes, they can/will drop the 2 days and make the change. But that only gets me part of the way there...

Is putting both names on the whole thing an option?

I know DVC can do it, but is it agreeable to you and your renter?

Fixed and thank you all for your ideas. I got an understanding CM and she got it taken care of for me, giving me the 2 nights in my own name and the others in the other name.

I would put their name as the main reservation holder on all 7 nights and add your name on. Since they will check-in on the same day you check-out would it be possible to meet them and try to straighten it out at the front desk?

I don't begrudge you being able to work it out that way with MS. I'm just a little surprised they actually split up the reservaton that way, unless they didn't have anyone on a waitlist for some of those days.

I don't think they did, that's the problem. It's one reservation for 7 nights but 2 different groups. One thing to consider is there will be no housekeeping on day 3 when you switch, unless you pay for it.

But how can they change names half way through a ressie without having it be two ressies? I mean, there'd be possible room charge issues, keys to print in a new name...does the resorts computer system allow that without a check-out and check-in?

I think this is one of those things that will vary with who you talk to. I suspect there is a wait list. IMO, this is similar but DIFFERENT than substituting points. I have no problem with them splitting the reservation as noted.

I'm gonna assume you'll schedule a full cleaning after the nights you spend in the unit and before your renter starts their stay? Or, did they make two actual seperate reservations?

Sounds like it becaume two totally separate reservations so cleaning should not be a problem and it's unlikely to be the same unit.
