Well, I planned this wonderful vacation at my favorite place on earth and now I'm here waiting for Hurricane Jeanne to hit us. We arrived late last night and things did not go too well. We arrived at POFQ and they told us they had no nonsmoking rooms available so they moved me to Riverside and told me to call in the morning to see if they could move me back to POFQ.
I had a very stressful week at work and I get up at 5:30 am to go to work (I'm self employed and have worked very hard to pay for this vacation... every day I do not work, I do not get paid... my boss doesn't give me any vacation time
) Anyway, I finished packing on Friday afternoon after work while my DH finished putting up the shutters in our house; drove to Orlando; had dinner at my parents (who live in Orlando) and went to check in to the hotel. Mind you, we made our decision to come knowing that the storm could hit any part of Florida, including WDW, but we needed the vacation, it's my birthday, and I was hoping that I would enjoy at least a part of it. One of my best friends who was going to join us decided to cancel and stay in S. Fla. (I don't blame her, really).
Anyway, I guess the work and hurricane stress (living in Florida has been scary this hurricane season, I tell ya), the fact that Jeanne looped back and decided to hit us in WDW and the thing at check-in was just too much and I spent a lot of time crying last night (and I'm usually not the emotional type). At least we were able to have a nice breakfast at the Crystal Palace this morning and got a nice room at POFQ. We did not get to enjoy MK due to the hotel change, but it's ok because we are passholders and come quite often. We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Ohana's with my parents, sister and brother (along with DH & DD7). Unfortunately, my birthday Wishes cruise was cancelled (obviously not safe). My family lives in Orlando and spent most of the day boarding the windows. They suffered some damage after Charley & Frances and were able to repair it.
Tomorrow was going to be Blizzard Beach day... instead it will be Hurricane Jeanne day....
I know I sound a little selfish, but I'm somewhat disappointed that my plans have been ruined (I'm a planner). On the positive side, everyone here has been wonderful. I tell you, I do not know how the CM's can do it. They are so organized and accomodating; helping everyone feel safe and making preparations for the storm; helping people they don't know when their homes and family face a possible disaster. Also, I'm close to my family and if anything happens to them, I feel better knowing that I am close and may be able to offer assistance.
I apologize for the long post, but I needed to vent a little. I feel much better now. I am praying for the safety of everyone in the path of the hurricane and I'm extremely grateful to all CM's for their hard work. I really hope there is no damage (which I know is wishful thinking) to anyone's home. We Floridians have gone through a lot in the past few weeks. I guess that's why we knowingly decided to come here knowing the hurricane was coming. After it passes, we may be able to enjoy the last 2 days of our vacation in a place we love dearly. After all, we can just come back another time and make up for the things we missed this time around. Living in Florida is really living in Paradise, but nothing in life is perfect and we sometimes pay a premium for choosing to live in such a beautiful place.
Again, for any CM reading this: Thank You. Your hard work is really appreciated. I wish you all the best and I hope you and your family stay safe.
