It's Here!! We're Leaving for WDW!!! Travel Day!!

Kelly -- That's great! Good Luck! Don't you just love new appliances?

Jaime -- Jury Duty? Good Luck! I don't envy you there!

Amy -- Just want you to know that we are thinking of you and can't wait to read all about your adventures with the crew!

I am beginning to second guess the ADR's I made weeks ago. I'm going to try to call tomorrow a.m. to see if I can change a few things. That dang DDP -- I realized I wasn't using it as effectively as I could -- why use a TS for a breakfast, when we could do a dinner? Duh! We may then do a character breakfast OOP when we are off the DDP (at the end of the vacation). Wish me luck -- which is what I will need loads of at this late date!

Jaime: I had jury duty for Superior Court on January 2! They were picking a grand jury and thank goodness I was not chosen. That could have seriously messed up my Disney plans! I could just see me telling the judge, " I can't serve on the grand jury, I have to go to Disney World!"

Lisa: Did you get the new ADR's you wanted? So many decisions.... I hope you got them.

The builder accepted our contract lock, stock and barrel. I am so thrilled. He agreed to all the changes we wanted and the upgrades. Woooo Hooooo! Now if I just didn't have to move two times.

Hope Amy is having a blast. My little neice and nephew are waiting until we arrive to let us hear all about their first Disney trip. I can't wait.

We are off to DC tomorrow. Happy Easter to everyone. :)

Yes, I was able to make some ADR changes! Not our first choices, but we are happy. We are now doing:
* O'hana dinner -- DDP
* LeCellier -- DDP
* Mama Melrose Fantasmic pkg. -- DDP
* Sci Fi Drive In -- DDP
* Goofy's Beach Club Character Breakfast -- OOP

We wanted a breakfast at Chef Mickey's, but alas, there were none available. I'm sure we'll enjoy Goofy's breakfast just as well. Our priority is Mickey waffles and Goofy's does have them! Have you been?

Wow! Your contractor agreed to everything? That is amazing -- and you didn't even have to go back and forth on it. That is fortunate. Moving twice, no, not fun. How long will you be in the rental? When do you move? Will you be settled in the new house before your vacation?

I told my mom weeks ago about our WDW plans, but no one else in the extended family knows yet. Our boys are thrilled that they will get to tell everyone when they come to our house on Easter.

Have a safe trip to DC, Kelly! This should be about Cherry Blossom Festival time, right? I was there for Spring Break back in 1985 and it was beautiful. Yikes, I'm old!

Happy Easter!

I loved O'Hana's - and their breakfast was even better than their dinner (they have the tiny MM waffles, too). LeCellier is the bomb. Wasn't thrilled with Mama's - interested in your view. LOVE Sci-Fi - so much fun!. Haven't done Goofy's breakfast - can't wait to hear about that one either! Mickey's was fun to see once... but I wasn't overwhelmed by it... too big and noisy. Which is a weird point of view, since I love Whispering Canyon!

We did the O'hana breakfast 3 years ago and DS9 would love to return, whereas DS12 would love to go back to Chef Mickey's. Hopefully this will be a good compromise -- DS9 enjoys the tropical aspect of the Polynesian and from what I've read elsewhere the Goofy breakfast has some of the characters we are interested in seeing. Good to try something new.

I'll let you know what we think of Mama's. Actually the food is probably secondary to the atmosphere and the Fantasmic pkg part of it. That, and I know Italian food is a safe choice -- I know my boys will find something they like.

Have a great Thursday!

We loved Ohana's for b-fast. Here are our ADR's:

Sat. Boma - dinner
Sun. Whispering Canyon - dinner Also Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at 3 pm :)
Mon. Sci Fi - dinner
Tues. Chefs de France - dinner
Wed. Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic package
Thurs. Le Cellier - dinner
Fri. Garden Grill - dinner
Sat. Supercalifragilistic b-fast

All new places for us. Never done Goofy b-fast.. will be interesting to hear how that goes. My oldest dd (13) requested Mary Poppins for b-fast. Now, I don't know about you ... but when someone that age requests a character, I am going to make it happen!! :)

Off to DC... hope cherry blossoms are still up considering the weather.

:)

Kelly -- those sound great! Hollywood & Vine is 2 TS credits, right? I think the Supercal breakfast sounds fun! You would think the 41 year old girl in our family would get her way and get to go to a Princess or Mary Poppins breakfast too --- but NO, she is outnumbered 3:1. Boo-hoo....... ;<) I love my boys, but there are moments when I wish I had a little girl to do girly things with! BBBoo looks so adorable!

With AAA we also have a complimentary Character Story Time. It is in the Expo Hall and lasts just 20 minutes. We won't know the character or the story until we arrive there. DS12 thinks it's a babyish thing to do -- but, hey, it's FREE (AAA pkg) and we ARE GOING!! I am secretly hoping for a Princess -- hee hee.

We had the Fairy Godmother... can't remember the story, offhand, but it might have been Cinderella... My 5 year old niece loved it and the adults loved the 20 minute rest!

We arrived in DC about midnight last night. It is COLD here and they are expecting...... SNOW!!!!!!!!!! Holy Moly.. it is Easter, folks!
We to the National Gallery of Art today and walked the Mall a little, but the wind was cold and we did not bring our ski gear. ha ha

Hollywood and Vine Fantasmic is on TS credit. That is a new thing, I think.

We booked through AAA too and get the story time. Let me know how it goes.

Off for brownies and ice cream.

:)

Hi, Lisa! Hi, Kelly! Hi Jaime! Hi, anyone else out there reading!!! Happy Easter!!
We walked in the door about an hour ago and despite being pooped, I just HAD to come say "We're BAAAACK!!" Because we had to get up this morning at 3 am...what the heck was I thinking?...we are all tired...plus our last 24 hours were pretty crazy...can't tell you yet...have to start at the beginning of our trip, right? lol
Let's just say that the title of this trip report should be "We're All in This Together....Right? NOT!" lol I was a good girl and took notes and even took some time to write up some of my trip report...so I will be posting an installment either later today or tomorrow. I figure I have to pay some attention to Gunner, our lab and I really need a nap. I have some funny stories :rotfl2: , some drama for a mama :rolleyes1 , and some really neat surprises to report about :yay: .

Kelly....congrats on your house dealings!! YIPEE for you!!! I'm sorry to hear about your friend's father...as you will see in my upcoming trip report, our school suffered a terrible loss on that last day before our break, so I know that it's so hard to see someone you care about suffer.

Lisa....Yea!!! You told the boys and it sounds as if it was a great success! I'm soooo proud of you for keeping the secret and now my trip envy can begin as your countdown gets lower and lower! I love the ADRs you made and am glad you made a Fantasmic! package reservation....wish we had!

Jaime...How was Jury Duty? Thank you for working with the girls to keep this thread alive...I loved reading up on what was going on while I was away. We saw Crocs EVERYWHERE at WDW and I kept telling Chief "See...I told you they are really in now!!" lol

Sooooo....I will be back on later after I feed the family...I'm back to the reality of actually having to prepare a meal now...that plastic Key to the Kingdom card gets me nowhere around here :sad2:

Happy Easter, everyone!!!

I think I am happy you are back, Amy! I hate it for you because I am always so sad to leave WDW. I can't wait to hear all about your trip especially now that you have given us a little teaser.

We woke up to snow yesterday morning and it is COLD today, but the bunny was good to us and we found some eggs and had a glorious breakfast.

Lisa: Pretty soon we will be wondering what you are doing while you are in WDW.

Jaime: You too.. your countdown will be single digits before you know it.

I heard on this board or in email that the free dining I was hoping for is happening... only after we are there. We missed it by a week last year too! DARN!! That dining money could have bought me a new sofa! :)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter Sunday. Happy Egg Hunting.

Hi, Kelly! Are you back from DC or are you home? I saw DC on the news over the weekend and thought of you as I saw snow on the cherry trees...YIKES!! This time of year is usually gorgeous in DC, but I hope being with your family more than made up for the yucky weather! I can't wait to hear what your neices thought of WDW and the Grand Floridian!

Did anyone get the license plate of that truck that just hit me? I laid down a bit ago to just relax after lunch and just woke up feeling like a Mack truck had run over my poor vacation-weary body! I think I am ready to type up the first installment, though, if you are ready to read it!! I can't guarantee any freedom from typos right now, though....I'll do my best!

Welcome back!!! I am a lurker on your TP. I can't wait to hear how things went.

The girls and I left school on Friday...it was a sad departure, however, and not as stress-free of a day as I had hoped. Before leaving for our field trip to see the play, we learned that the husband of one of our fellow teachers had been rushed to the hospital with what we thought was a heart attack that morning and it was not looking good. All day I worried for my friend and her family and prayed that everything would be well. Our stress-free trip to the play ended up with our getting there 15 minutes into the performance because our bus driver got lost, so we rode on the bus for 1 hour, sat for 25 minutes in the performance, and then rode back to school for 1 hour.

We arrived late back to school and our kids almost missed lunch. I ran to replace the makeup that Gunner, the maniac black lab ate, and to get batteries on what was left of my lunch break and when I came back, an announcement was made over the loud speaker that we would have an emergency faculty meeting after school...I knew immediately that it was bad news about our friend's husband...and it was. He had suffered a brain aneurysm and it was looking as if he were brain dead. So, the girls and I left the building sadly as this man is not only the husband of my friend, but is the founder of Boo's children's orchestra program, Elder of our church, and father to two beautiful girls who I used to babysit before I had kids of my own. It made me all the happier to see Chief waiting for us at home - you just never know what could happen at any time. God bless those women and keep them strong.

The limo arrived as I was doing some last minute shuffling of some stuff and we grabbed the Cars DVD and were off. The limo was a surprise for the girls and was a great way to start off our vacation without the stress of having to drive the 2 hours into the city to the airport. The ride went quickly and it was restful after the crazy day. We got to JFK with no problems and had checked in online, so we had our boarding passes all ready to go. We dropped our bags off at JetBlue's curbside check in and got through security lickety-split. I handed everyone their ziplock baggies and had prepared well so it was the smoothest I think I had ever gotten through security.

Next order of business: dinner. We decided on Cheeburger, Cheeburger after we saw that the choices at this terminal at JFK did not include any restaurants that we recognized (other than Gray's Papaya...but did not want to have hot dogs) and because it had what I knew would be the first of many chicken tenders meals for the girls. Chief, Boo, and Lou waited in line while I scoped out a table. I snagged one right away and defended the empty seats for the half hour it took them to sit down with me. Right after finding the table, I stood up and waved to Chief :wave2: , hoping to get his attention so he could see where we were sitting. Slowly I notice a man who looked to be 50ish sitting about 10 yards away....smiling and waving right back at me:wave2: . Hee, hee sir...you are just soooo funny! :rotfl2: I give him a smile and wave :wave2: back to him and realize that for some reason my DH cannot pick up on my "Hey!! Look over here!!!" signals I am sending and decide to just wait. An airport worker-lady plops herself down in one of the five other chairs at the table without even asking  and I don't say anything as I really only need three of them...a bit later a couple comes and actually asks if they can sit there...I tell them "Sure...but I need three of these seats for my family" They decide to pass as they are with other people, too, and the airport-worker-lady just says "I'll be done soon" and I tell her not to worry about it...I was so hungry I really wanted to ask her if I could try a bite of the Chinese food she was eating...but didn't want to get that friendly! lol

Dinner was had and was expensive...who knew that eating at JFK's counter service would be more expensive that eating at a counter service at WDW? We spent $49 on four chicken finger meals and two bottles of water! :scared1: That made us even more anxious to begin to use our DDP!!

We found our gate, sat down and waited...and waited...and waited...and waited...and waited...and waited :hourglass Soon it was 8:00 and I was thinking that we must be boarding soon...looked up and see that a line has already formed for the gate...assumed lemming mentality (it was late...I was excited...I swear I practice another philosophy at WDW!!) and got in line. About 15 minutes later we noticed that the departure board says that we will be boarding at 8:40. Did we go sit down to wait? Nope...it was CRAZY in that area and we couldn't hear any of the gate announcements, so I didn't want to take the chance that we would miss the mass migration onto the airplane. At 9:00 we finally begin to inch forward as they load us on and to JetBlue's credit, we loaded quickly and efficiently and even though we took off roughly 40 minutes later than planned, we landed only about 30 minutes behind schedule. 10 minutes on a trip to WDW is like an eternity so I was grateful for every second.

JetBlue has those great in-seat tvs that I enjoyed for all of about 30 minutes of the flight before beginning to drool on myself as I fell asleep. All of us dozed on the plane so the flight went by quickly.

We deplane and catch what we consider our first ride at WDW...the airport monorail. Here's Chief and the girls waiting for it to come pick us up:

SpringBreak2007WDW042-1.jpg

Note Chief's half-asleep expression! We got off the monorail and started walking to the ME desk and began to get nervous when we noticed that absolutely NO ONE was walking with us there...we find the check in counter, and before we could say "Mickey Mouse" we were walking our way onto a bus. I was a tad disappointed that it wasn't a ME bus but a Disney Cruise Line bus because we didn't get the ME video on the trip to the resort, but I was happy to hear that the WL would be the first stop tonight!

We pulled into the WL and I got a boost of energy! We were there! REALLY! Like it's not a dream!! We haul our carryons off the bus and walk into the ever-gorgeous lobby. We step up to the check in counter just as a family in front of us is beginning the check in process. There was some issue about their child being a listed on the resie as a child but was 12 years old, so should be listed as a Junior...they didn't have the DDP, but CM felt the need to call someone for help and in the end found out that it didn't matter to the hotel as long as they weren't on the dining plan. I kept thinking, "Oh, hurry up!! I want to find my comfy bed on the 7th floor and if I had just known that the CL staff left at 10 pm I would've asked for 1/2 a personal day just to be ushered up to the 7th floor!!" Finally they settle things and we are called to check in next. There were no problems with our check in and the girls were thrilled when we allowed them to have charging available on their Keys to the World cards. The CM handed over those gold key cards and YIPPEE! we were on way to the 7th floor knowing we are staying in room 7051. I got very, very excited in my over-tired state as she said we were in room 7051...I was just sure that I'd seen pics of the room 7052 on the DIS and it had a MK view...I told Chief and the girls that I just know we will be able to see the castle and the fireworks from our room!!

We were on the elevator fighting over who was going to use their key to access the Old Faithful Club floor and if I remember right, I won!! Up we went and I sighed about missing the whole CL check in and was jealous for the rest of the trip when I would see someone getting ushered to their room and their tour of the floor.

All the way from the elevator I was skipping and singing "We're gonna see the castle! We're gonna see the castle!" It didn't dawn on me until we reached our room that 7052 is on the MK side and is an even number and that all rooms with an odd number have a courtyard view...I was thinking that the two would be side-by-side and not across the hall. I let out a big, disappointed sigh as I figure it out and Chief told me he realized it as soon as we turned the corner into our hallway, but he was having too much fun watching me skip and sing down the corridor. He had let the girls in on the secret and the three of them had stayed behind me, watching me and waiting for the realization to hit.

Oh, well, I said...at least we were there! 7051 was a nice room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard and was a very welcome sight after the long night of traveling. Here are some pictures I took the next day from the balcony:

We changed right into our jammies and hit the hay knowing that the AK waited for us the next day!!

I'm glad you're all home safely, but not glad you're home, ya know??? That was a really fast week! It feels like you just left. I hope it seemed longer for you!

Jury duty went well - met some very interesting people. We were very civic minded and did our duty quite well, I think. We really did deliberate a lot!

I'm down to 19 1/2 days and getting antsier by the minute!

Great start to your report - keep it coming!

Hello! Hello! Happy Easter!

Amy -- Welcome Home! Goodness girl, I am amazed at your energy to come on here so soon! As others have said, glad to read your reports, but sorry for you that your vacation is over.

Kelly -- Sorry you are missing the free meals. Any chance you could change your week? Sounds like you are having the weather we had here last week. Crazy! Hope you had fun in DC walking the mall and going to museums. Almost as much fun as WDW -- okay, that may be a stretch, but enjoyable just the same.

I feel like a Mack truck hit me today too. The last of the relatives just left. I've been waiting all day to get to the computer (I know, how naughty of me!). We went to 7am church and breakfast and I've been in the kitchen pretty much ever since. In addition, DS12 was up 1/2 the night -- for a kid that KNOWS the Easter Bunny isn't real, he sure has a difficult time sleeping. For some bizarre reason he was JUST SURE there was someone walking around in our living room. You'd think after living here for almost 10 years, he would know the furnace/house sounds. My sister made him feel better when told us she had the same problem as a child -- the excitement of Santa, the Easter Bunny, and even the Tooth Fairy kept her awake for years.

The boys had fun announcing our vacation plans to the family today. My mom knew, but no one else. They gathered a globe (Universal), a giant stuffed whale (Sea World) and a Disney movie (WDW!) and asked what these things had in common --- my niece easily came up with the answer -- a trip to Florida! My 22 year old nephew was just sure that we were moving far away. Goofy kid!

We were planning to have our garage sale this Thursday-Saturday, but have decided to postpone until May due to wintry weather forecasts. I was looking forward to the extra vacation cash, but in the end, I am a bit relieved too.

Amy -- I am so sorry about your co-workers husband. My sister lost her husband to a pulmonary embolism 22 years ago -- when her children were 4, 2 and 7 months, so I know a little about what that feels like (being in the family of; not the feeling as a spouse). In fact, just today I dug out a file of letters that my sister had written to me in the years before and after his death. I was away at college, etc and back then (before email), we actually hand wrote letters. It was a tearful afternoon reading the letters, but good too. Since the kids don't really remember their Dad, these letters gave a bit of insight into our lives back then. Any time we can keep their Dad's memory alive, though it be difficult, it is a good thing.

I'd better get back to the kitchen, it isn't going to clean itself. Better grab some chocolate to fortify myself along the way! ;<)

I look forward to more of your report, Amy!
