As you can tell by my title, I have a ticker. Which means I am going back home! It's not for a 1 year, 1 month, 2 weeks, and 5 days, but I'M GOING HOME!

This trip is extra special because I will be attempting the Wine and Dine half marathon! I have never ran a half marathon, or a race for that matter, but luckily I have 1 year, 1 month, 2 weeks, and 5 days to train! During this time I plan to run a few local races, I actually have my first October 26th! It's a glow in the dark bridge run. It's not a 5K, all we're really doing is running up an overpass and back, but it's practice!

I am relying on the help of all you W.I.S.H.E.R.S! to get me through this! We decided on the trip this morning, so naturally I want to plan the entire thing today, and I have a few questions.

What resort would you recommend we stay at? I will probably be running the half alone :sad1: but I will be running the 5K that morning with DM DD and DB hopefully DF by that time. :rolleyes1 I read that all resorts will be "host resorts" for 2014 races, not entirely sure what that means, but I have summed it up that those resorts will have buses to the races?

Do people dress up for this race? I have seen adorable pictures from Princess, so I am hoping everyone is in the Wine and Dine dress up spirit as well. My Dad's side is Italian, so I thought about doing something with that; since Italy is a country in EPCOT. But then something with wine or food is so tempting. Or a character, because I love their reactions when they see you... :headache: I'll think about that later!

Any tips or advice on rundisney races would be very much appreciated! I'm a little lost, but I'm sure I'll get there!

Thanks everyone!

I cannot offer advice on the Wine and Dine because I have only done the marathon weekend in January. However I too will sign up for the W/D next year and cannot wait!

I thought about the hotels already and would love to stay at the Poly but I understand the buses only run from certain hotels...which I believe are located somewhere on their webpage.

So I am looking forward to hearing the responses...or reading them rather.

The idea of running at night sounds exciting but I wont be able to experience that until next year...so I will watch your ticker!

Great! We'll be counting down together!

I was looking at the Poly too, I will let you know if I find anything about the bus routes. I'm worried about the construction for DVC though; but I really don't think it would be that imposing. :confused3

Congrats! How exciting is that!!!! :cool1:

I am doing Wine and Dine this year. This will be my first. I am staying at Beach Club Villas because I can walk back and it is my home resort. I am not a night person at all, I am usually in bed by 8:30/9. But I think the adrenaline will push me through and I plan on taking a nap in the afternoon.

You can do this!!! I started running in mid January. never ran in my life, ever! I am a walker and do exercise but never had the desire to run. I was in Disney a few days after marathon weekend last year and my friend, who was running, told me she was running it and would miss me by a few days (we live in different states). The idea of running in Disney really intrigued me and I got to work as soon as I got home. Downloaded the Nike+ app on my phone to track myself, downloaded an interval timer, visited my dr for an inhaler (which has helped so much) and I love running now. I have done a few 5k, a 5 miler, 2 10k, a 8 miler, 11.6 miler, 2 half marathons, I have two half marathons coming up in the next 4 weeks, I am signed up for W&D, 10K and marathon in January and Glass Slipper Challenger in February. If you would have asked me January 1 I would have done that I would have said you were crazy. But I did it and have loved all, er most, of it! :lmao: Some runs are tough, but you get through them. It is a great challenge for yourself.

Can't wait to hear how you do on the 26th. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress! :thumbsup2

I went to their website and at least for this year most of the Disney hotels seem to be host hotels. What will it be for next year I don't know.

I would certainly sign up for as many races as you can do between now and then and starting off with a lit bridge run sounds fun and different. Do some 5k's and build up to 10k races. In spring there are normally quite a bit of half marathons so I would sign up for a few then. Summer, who knows, kind of hot. I would sign up for a half for next fall before the W/D.

I will sign up for the 2014 W/D when it opens. I too am a morning person...so getting up at 330am for the Disney marathon races is okay with me...but I am in bed by 9pm too. So doing a race that's past my bedtime will be a challenge but that's what is fun about it. I thought about the Las Vegas race because that's a night too but that also has a lot of really bad reviews...so I will stick with Disney.

Thanks! You are such an inspiration to me, you have done so much in such a small amount of time. Congrats!
I am not a night person either, but I'm sure I'll be too excited to be tired! If you don't mind me asking, do you have the inhaler because of asthma or does it help with running? I live in south Louisiana and it's very hot and humid (a lot like Florida actually :rotfl: ) so it's very easy to get out of breath fast. I wonder if an inhaler would help me? :confused3
I just signed up for a 5K on October 19th so I'm nervous but have decided not to push myself too hard. It's my first one and I don't want to disappoint myself if I don't do as well as I would like.
I was thinking about making a pre-trip training report on here, I feel it would be a good motivator to run! I will defiantly keep you posted! Thank again and good luck on your upcoming races!!

Thanks for letting me know! I would like to be booked a year in advance to start paying, I'm hoping for a discount to be released, we plan to stay for a few days after the weekend as well. Summer is super hot here in Louisiana, so hopefully I can get in a few before then. I looked online and found a ton on Facebook, so I liked all the pages and signed up for e-mail updates, hopefully a few come my way! I feel the night race will be challenging for me as well. Hopefully I am too excited to be tired!

I had gotten an inhaler because when I used to not like running my lungs would burn when I would run. When I went to the doctor they said I might have had a slight case of asthma. It has made it so much easier to breathe when I run.

Good luck on your 5k! My first official race was a 5m. I was so nervous also and I came in near the end, but you know what I was out there and I DID IT! I was on top of the world. My mother was there and she was crying! It was such a cool moment. So even if you come in last, just enjoy the experience and be proud of yourself that you did it! Don't forget to update us! :)

At least it has helped you!!
Thank you! I'm sure I won't be the first one finished, but I'm not too worried. It's for charity so that's all that counts!
Thank you for all the wonderful words of encouragement! :goodvibes
