It's getting harder and harder to keep the secret!!

We've kept our upcoming trip a secret since we booked it, last October! Now that it is getting so close it's hard for me to not just slip in casual conversation. For example, today we were invited to go to a somewhat local water park. My DS8 was a little disappointed that we couldn't go. I almost said that it wasn't a big deal since we'll be going to TL and BB in a little over 3 weeks! Then I was doing DD4's hair today when I was reminded of a thread talking about the colored gel and sparkly Mickey heads and such at the MK Barber Shop. So, while brushing her hair I almost asked her what color gel she would choose while we were there. Stuff like this keeps happening. Thankfully each time I've caught myself before I have said anything. I'll tell you, this trip can't get here fast enough!!!

You can make it, I know you can!! My DH & I kept our trip in June a secret from our girls for 10 months (about the same time as you) & they had no clue where we were really going until we were driving out of Tallahassee. It was so much fun to surprise them...just keep thinking about their faces when they find out that they are going...believe me it is soooo worth it!! On our 1st night at MK our then 3yo and I were riding Dumbo during Wishes and she looked up at me with the fireworks glistening in her eyes and said "Thank you for bringing me to Disney World for my birthday!"...I'm teary eyed just typing this...it is a moment that I will never forget!! Our oldest must have told us thank you 200 times during our trip!!

There were times when we almost blew it too though!! But luckily they didn't even realize what we said.

You have come this far you can keep the secret for 24 more days!! I know you can!!

My kids are now 23 and 20 but when they were 9 and 6 I surprised them with a trip to Disneyland. The looks on they faces was priceless better than the trip. Just the other day we were talking about that trip and they told me all the childhood memories that was the best. I wish I could back and do it all over again! So do your best to keep that secret and I hope it will be anything you and your family have dream of. Lucky kids to have such great parents!!

Our kids know about our up coming trip in Oct but are unaware of the one we have planned for March..... .

I can only imagine the memories it will give them as they grow up. We can't wait!!!!

We are keeping it secret too! We started off not telling our kids (3 and 6) because my DHs work "cancelled" our first trip planned and everyone was devastated. Just in case it happened again, we kept this one secret and we just kept going with it.

For those who have kept trips a secret before, how long did it go on for - the airport, arriving in the ME line, etc? We could probably get as far as the resort before my DD realized but I think with DS we could only get to Orlando airport before he figured it out. I am planning on just telling them that Daddy is going on a trip for work and this time the airport "is allowing us to go all the way to the airplane" and take it from there. Perhaps then say "hey lets go with Daddy" (which we have done in the past). I don't think he would question why Daddy is taking 4 suitcases on his trip

Does anyone have second thoughts about the "secret" because talking about it is half the fun of the trip too? Sometimes I feel guilty but I figured how often can you keep a trip like this secret and I have got to try at least once!

Keep holding out. We are leaving our house in 2hrs heading to the airport to head to WDW and our 2 daughters ( 6 & 8) have no idea.....the look on their face is going to be priceless when they figure it out....they will be so excited. I think I am just as excited to see what they say

I wanted to keep our upcoming trip a secret, but i turned into a grand gathering and my DD13 heard the adults talking about it in the early stages of planning. I wanted to tell them we were going Christmas shopping a mall further away so we could go to the Rain Forest Cafe to explain the long ride. Then when we were pulling into the lot we park our car in tell them when asked.
I'm lucky enough to have a big walkin closet downstairs and a extra furnace room that I was planning on hiding the suitcases I was packing so they would not figure it out. Oh well, maybe next time.

I do somewhat feel your pain of keeping a secret. I'm keeping our ressie at Cindy's for breakfast a secret from my parents, my DD9 and my 2 nieces. Unfortunately the hardest one to keep it from has been my Mom! She keeps asking me if I tried to get a ressie yet, told her it was booked. I want to write out invitations and put them under the doors the night before so it looks like they are invited by Cindy to her castle for breakfast.

Keeper's of the Secret here too! We arrive 9/22 and our daughters (11 & 7) have NO IDEA.

They think we are going to Gulf Shores, AL to visit their Great-Aunt & Uncle so they are expecting a long car drive. We will leave 9/21 about 9:00 pm and drive all night so that they can sleep. Our plan is to pull up to the gate as the sun is coming up.

It has been SO hard....especially when they are planning all the things they want to do in Alabama .

Hopefully, they want be TOO disappointed that we forced them to go to DISNEY instead!

We also are keeping the secret. We leave on the 11th of Sept. I am picking ds7 up at school at lunchtime. I already emailed his teacher. Its been very hard to do. ds13 is severely handicapped, so when we talk about it he doesnt know. But we always say "close Shauns ears" when we're talking about it.

Secrets can be DANGEROUS LOL. I have been doing all the planning for our Jan. trip and I am trying to keep some little details a secret. Well, my best friend has been BUGGING me that she needs the itinerary cause she's got secrets of her own.

So, basically, she can keep secrets from me but I can't keep secrets from her!! (The funny part is my boyfriend and her husband are CLUELESS and have no idea what we're up to).

And MARIA -- if you're reading this -- I do have some secrets, don't you worry. You won't be the only one being all sneaky this trip.

No way. We will get so much more enjoyment when we wake them up and tell them to hurry up and get ready because we'll be on our way to Disney in 30 minutes! They are going to be so shocked/excited - I can't wait to see the excitement on their faces.

I kept the secret this long, I'm not about ot blow it now! I know that when they're older they'll have many Disney trips to look back on. But the one that was a surprise will be the one they remember most!

I needed my kids to be excited about the trip... because it is their first trip to Disney.

To not have them looking at the maps to see what is there and what they want to do.... we would show up and they would be like, "What is Disney".

They are 4 and 6.

So.... to sort of keep the secret, I started a Disney Jar. I took a big glass jar and put Disney stickers on it. I told the kids that they could earn "chore money" by doing chores, or behaving exceptionally well, or doing random acts of kindness. When the jar is full, we can change it in and see if it is enough money to go to Disney.

Well, we leave in 5 days, and this has worked MAGNIFICENTLY!!!!!!

I have even threatened to take money out of the jar for fighting, or being bad.

I have never had such well behaved kids!!!! And to boot.... They say it takes 10 days to develop a good habit or break a bad one. Well... they have become little chore doers... and have stopped fighting almost entirely... Even without the threat/promise of money.

I spoke with my son's teacher this week, and she is keeping the secret as well that he will be out of school next week.

As it stands right now... they will wake up in 5 days and find the Disney jar emptied of its change, but full of Disney Dollars and "pixie dust" (glitter) with trails of dust to their packed suit cases.

This acheives two things... it means they will sleep the night before we go... so I don't have tired cranky kids the next day... AND... it keeps them from driving me crazy by knowing that they will be at the parks in 8 days... 7 days... 6 days... etc.

It also lets them build excitement by looking at what they want to do, and learning what Disney really is.

I wanted to keep it a secret right up until our flight touched down in Orlando, but my son can read so he would know what flight we were taking. And it will also be their first flight... and my son is probably going to be scared... he will be less scared knowing that he is going to Disney!!!!

I plan to have the old camcorder running for the morning when they stagger upon that jar and their packed suit cases... and realize.... "WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY!!!"....... "TODAY"....

LOL- I've been keeping our trip a secret too!!! Only 3 more days I can't wait because I am about to burst!! I think the kids know something is up though - they just haven't figured it out yet. DH and I plan to tell them Sat ( we leave Sunday) DH and I are going to wear the dream ears we won through the mail and we will see if the kids ask us why we are wearing them Then we are going to keep the resort a secret until we get there. This will be our first time at the Poly

We're going as part of a Grand Gathering with 2 other families (6 adults and 8 kids...kids are ages 2 year to 13 years). None of the kids have any idea and we leave in 18 days!! We've been planning this trip since January.

This is our plan on spilling the beans:
We're all going to accidentally on-purpose run into each other a popular restaurant in town for breakfast before school on the day of the trip. Our town is really small, so it isn't unusual for this to happen. We'll have the kids sit down to wait for breakfast. Then when we deliver their breakfast in to-go bags, they'll look inside and find a "survival kit" instead. The survival kit has sunscreen, disney dollars, mickey soap, glow sticks, purell, mickey stickers, etc. Hopefully, they'll figure out that we're about to head to WDW --- not to school! AND that their best friends are going, too! ha! Then, we'll tell them we've got to hit the road because we have a long day of driving ahead of us and that we'll get to WDW around bedtime. An hour and a half later, we'll pull into the airport for another surprise -- we're flying and will be WDW in a couple of hours!

Secret keeper here too. I will be taking my two sons(11 & 6) in Dec. I plan to pick up the kids from school early with some lame excuse. Then head for the airport and just see how long it takes my DS11 to figure it out. This will be his second trip but it has been along time. They both have been asking to go to Disney and I just tell them maybe next summer.
Here is the thing that is getting to me, I'm losing my excitement I guess because I can't talk about it. When I first started to plan, deciding when to go, I was excited and was already making plans. But now that I have figured which parks to go to on which days and made a few ADRs, I just can't seemed to get any farther. I'm sure as Dec. approaches I will pick up my obsesive planning.
Keep those secrets. It will be so worth it.
