JULY 25TH PART THREE: FULL MOONS AND FRANKENSTEIN
Hey everyone! Im sooooo sorry its been so long since my last update, but life just cant seem to refrain from being hectic and I just havent been in the mood to sit down and write. But I'm here now, with a ridiculously long update that probably should have been broken up into several parts, so let's do this.
First of all, I would just like to say LAP BARS ON SPLASH MOUNTAIN??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Do that many idiots really stand up/climb out/take pictures of themselves making stupid faces next to Brer Bears behind/go for a swim/realize that despite the songs title, they have no laughing place so they try to escape so as not to fall into nothingness/decide theyve had enough of their real-life family and would rather join a family of animatronic frogs/suddenly remember that they are deathly allergic to water/etc that they needed to install lap bars? Come on, people! Its not that hard to follow instructions and REMAIN SEATED AT ALL TIMES. Its stuff like this that makes me lose faith in humanity. I mean, nothing says intelligence like standing up while in a moving vehicle. *shakes head*
Anyway, when I last left off, I headed into dreamland for a quick little nap which I REALLY needed on account of the fact that I was tired. Like, zombie tired. Isnt it funny how at WDW the tiredness never happens gradually? Its like, one second youre all full of energy and the next its BOOM. ZOMBIE. It reminds me of being a little kid again.
Mom, Dad, and Katie were all at the pool during my nap, so when they came back, they woke me up and we headed back to MGM for the evening.
I just had to take this picture of the ATM as we were walking through the GCH. Had to. I wish everything in life was this well-themed.
We headed outside, past all of the gorgeous greenery and fountains and giant piles of luggage. Looking at all the luggage is always so depressing. I try to forget luggage exists while Im at the World. Its like, luggage? What is that? You put your stuff in it while traveling? Well, Im pretty sure Im never going to need to use that again. Im quite content right here, thankyouverymuch.
Heres a picture of the monorail beams and the bus stop.
If you look closely at this picture, you can see a bus pulling through the security hut thingy. It just so happened that it was an MGM bus Well, technically it was labeled Hollywood Studios. I dont know what that is, but I assumed it would take us to MGM so we boarded.
We were the only people on the bus until we stopped at the Grand Floridian and picked up another family. I love (nearly) empty buses.
The bus ride was uneventful and before long we were dropped off right here. Well, not right here in the middle of the path, but near there.
I love coming back to the parks in the evening. The bag check lines are always short and its strange to see the front gates so empty.
We decided we were gonna go see the American Idol Finale show, but we had a little while before that started, so we slowly meandered up Hollywood Blvd, taking in all of the little details.
Im a weirdo, crazy-person, but seeing everyone walking around with their Disney shopping bags gives me the warm fuzzies. Its weird, I know. I dont really understand why I love it so much, but I do.
Im kind of obsessed with the colors of this building teal and coral Theyre so fun and yet relaxing. I should probably move to Miami or something so that my future house wont stick out like a sore thumb.
Dance studio? Where do I sign up for lessons?
We also took some pictures of the family (well, parts of the family) but as you can see, they arent very good.
In this one, we all look distracted by something.
In this one, were just making weird faces. Im pretty sure Ive mentioned this before, but as you can see, my family .we are just terrible at taking group pictures.
We headed over to the Idol theater, but instead of going in right away and being forced to stand and watch the pre-show, we decided to sit on the steps for a little while. We werent obsessed with finding a good seat or anything and its not like the theater would fill up (well, it would eventually, but once the crowd got really big, we would head inside).
While we were sitting there, the High School Musical show was going on, so we listened to that, and watched adorable little kids dance along. There was also a dad dancing with his kids and it reminded me of the scene where Phil Dunphy does the Were All in this Together dance in the Modern Family pilot. Oh, Phil. My friends all say that Im going to wind up marrying a Phil Dunphy and Im ok with that. Its fitting. Plus, I doubt Phil would mind going to Disney every year. Wed probably also have to go to family camp, but it cant be that bad. I just hope that my Phil and I have a son as adorable as little Luke.
Moving on.
Once the pre-show area was adequately filled, we headed on in. I couldve sat outside on the steps for another 5 minutes, but everyone else was freaking out that we would get shut out of the show, which obviously wasnt going to happen, but I decided to just appease everyone and not make a big deal about it. Youve gotta pick your battles
We watched the rest of the pre-show before being mercifully herded into the theater. Which I just said in a British accent in my head. Off to the theater!
While filing in, I overheard a guy in the row behind us say something along the lines of wanting to sit in the back because they make you dance and do stupid stuff up front. It made me laugh. I love the lack of enthusiasm brand of Disney travelers. They crack me up with their What in the world am I doing here? faces and their judge-y You do know thats a guy in a costume, right? looks.
I sat down expecting that terrible Rihanna song to begin any second, but it didnt. They played the Black Eyed Peas Boom Boom Pow instead. I know, right? What are they thinking? I cant stand Rihanna, but I cant stand the Black Eyed Peas even more than I cant stand Rihanna. Ugh. So instead of fist pumping to Rihanna, we fist pumped to the Black Eyed Peas and it was not fun. But thankfully the warm-up guy was entertaining. When describing how we should boo if the judges say something mean, he was like pretend youre from Cleveland and Im LeBron James and then sang the Welcome to Miami Bienvenido a Miami part of the Will Smith song. Of course, we didnt have to pretend. We just booed. Loudly. Like people from Cleveland do. Actually, we get really drunk and then throw things. And burn jerseys. And write angry letters in comic sans. And then we cry and drink some more. But I didnt have any alcohol, matches, or a word processing device handy, so booing sufficed.
I dont really remember any details from the actual show. Apparently it was really forgettable because I didnt even take notes in my TR journal. And I keep pretty detailed notes in that thing. Obviously the girl we saw that morning sang "The Climb" again, so I probably got it stuck in my head again/was walking around belting it out in random peoples faces, but I dont really know/remember. Its been 6 months, can you blame me?
Anyway, after the show was over, we walked back towards Muppetvision because I really wanted to look in the gift shop. I love the Muppets!
I love that these gates pop up all throughout the park. They really give you the whole Im walking around a studio lot feel.
Its always so quiet and peaceful back here in the evening. Such a change of pace from the rest of the World.
I dont know why this giant ice cream sundae is there, but I like it.
Oops I got Miss Piggys back. Lets try that again.
That ones a little better.
I love this face. It kinda looks like hes plotting some elaborate escape. Doesnt it look like hes waiting for someone to stop looking at him so that he can run off and do something evil? Or maybe Im just making all this up.
Of course, after seeing this sign, I started singing Walk this Way. Except it was Walka-walka this way, Talka-talka this way. Im creative like that.
Kermie!
I didnt take any pictures in the Muppet store, nor did I buy anything, but they had some cute stuff. Im not big into the whole Vinylmation thing, but the Muppet-themed ones were adorable.
