"It's Coming and it's BLUE" - A July 2010 TR - COMPLETED!!

Ok....how did it take me so long to get here? *face palm* Better late than never right?

I really hope things work out and you get to take the workshop. It sounds fabulous. And I am totally jealous. I wish I hadn't given up dance. :sad1: Or well, I still dance...I'm taking hip hop Fall Quarter...but it's not serious like it used to be. But yeah, I totally know what you mean. I absolutely should not be reading trip reports. Someone's picture of a random bench will set me off and I'll be all OMG I NEED TO GO TO DISNEY NOW. If only I didn't have this thing called college holding me back. Oh, and the fact that I don't have an infinite supply of money. If I did, I would go all "Eloise at the Plaza" on the World, except it'd be more like "Kara at the Polynesian". But yeah, this whole once a year trip thing just isn't enough. I NEED WDW IN MY LIFE. Honestly, it's like medicinal. I'm working on convincing my friend to go to WDW with me over Spring Break, but it ain't cheap and because of that I don't know if she's gonna go for it. GOSH. WHY MUST THE THING I LOVE MOST IN THIS WORLD BE A) FAR AWAY AND B) REALLY EXPENSIVE?

THANK YOU GIRL! Was the hip hop you took more hip POP or was it like... Jay-Z kinda hip hop? Cause the hip hop I took from the time I was like 8 onward was more hip pop, like a ton of Britney, Madonna, MJ, music like that, stuff like the way Britney danced in her videos. In fact, when I was 10 I got into the dance troupe because I knew the whole Oops I Did It Again dance LOL. I miss that. But the new hip hop class I'm taking is so straight up hip hop that there was a move that Will Smith apparently made famous in one of his videos and that is just too weird for me. I am a white blonde girl. Like... I can't.

Once a year is so not enough. :( I think I could handle once every six months. Maybe. I don't know. I like your KARA AT THE POLYNESIAN idea!

We didn't even realize it at first, but then he sat down and I was just like OMG It's monorail camoflauge!!!

Thank you! I love that shirt so much. I wanna wear it forever.

Have you ever considered doing the Disney college program? You get to live there for a semester and work in Disney! I graduated college years ago, but when I was there I saw posters for it all the time, and I wanted to do it SOOOO badly...but I was too afraid to leave for a semester! Now it's probably the one thing I regret most in life! You should think about it!

Better late than never is like my motto. But thanks for FINALLY joining us. ;)

Growing up, the hip hop I took was definitely on the pop side of things, which was good because Jazz dance was kinda my thing, and that version of hip hop was more jazzy. But then, my freshman year of college I took a hip hop class that was um...more intense. And I actually enjoyed it. At first I felt super awkward, but then I let myself go and got into it. We explored all sorts of variations on hip hop. Like, there was a Bollywood hip hop unit that made my life. And the unit on Funk made me wish I had grown up in the 70s. But then, there was the 2 week unit on breakdance. Which was completely laughable. I absolutely cannot breakdance. It was pretty much just me flailing around on the floor. I guess it was good to get out of my comfort zone, though.

OMG. I miss watching music videos and/or VHS tapes of concerts over and over to learn the dances. I still remember big chunks of the dances from NSYNC videos. My friend makes fun of me because, for nostalgia's sake, I learned the dance from Lady Gaga's Bad Romance video. Granted, it only took a couple viewings, unlike back in the day when I'd watch the video all day to learn the steps, but it was still fun.

I've kinda thought about doing the College Program. It would be ridiculously fun to work in the parks. But I'm hesitant because I'm afraid that working at my favorite vacation place would ruin the magic a bit. But yeah, I'll definitely have to seriously consider it because I'm sure it would be a blast.

OMG. What time was your breakfast? We could have been in the GCH at the same exact time! It's so weird to think that I "know" someone who was there at the same time as me, but we never actually bumped into eachother. WDW IS JUST SO DARN HUGE. IT'S CRAZY.

It was at like 9:05 a.m. or something like that. That would've been crazy to be that close!

omg that sounds so awesome - BOLLYWOOD hip hop?? wow. I can't breakdance either, don't feel bad.

That was my childhood right there, copying all the videos, if you want to sum it up. I actually didn't use dolls for playing with, I used to line mine up like an audience LOL. I still do it sometimes, but there's not that much good choreo in music videos right now, sadly. :(

Hey guys!! I just wanted to let you all know that there will be an update coming soon. I promise. I'm sorry it's taking so long, but I've had the worst case of TR Writer's Block. I haven't been happy with what I've written so far, and I don't want to post anything I'm not happy with. So anyway, stay tuned!! :thumbsup2

We were already over at the MK by then, so we just missed eachother. :upsidedow

Yeah, the Bollywood Hip Hop was AMAZING. Like, I would take a class in just that. Too bad such a class is impossible to find in Ohio.

And yeah, the choreo in music videos today is terrible. It's disappointing.

Marie, I'm enjoying your report. Don't worry about it being perfect.

I'm trying to imagine Bollywood hip hop. Do you know of any good performances?

Thanks!! :goodvibes

And I, too, had no idea what Bollywood hip hop was before that class. A lot of the steps were what you'd think of as "traditional" Bollywood, but then there was a bit of "edge" thrown in for good measure. I'm really terrible at describing this, but I'll see if I can find any videos online.

YAAAAY, you made it! I totally love driving around property too and seeing all those familiar sights. I love that you got a picture of the TOT sign. Geez, that thing has been there for YEARS!

Love the Poly pictures too and hearing that "Aloha and welcome aboard" on the monorail is great. Boy do I miss it there.

JULY 23RD PART TWO: WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME

When I left off, my family and I had just boarded the monorail and were heading towards THE MAGIC KINGDOM!! That first monorail ride is always so exciting. But at the same time, covering such a short distance seems to take FOREVER. I mean, do we REALLY have to stop at the Grand Floridian? Can’t we just be like, “Suck it, Rich People!” and drive on bye? I need to get to the Magic Kingdom as quick as possible, and as we all know, Disney should be all about catering to MY (and only my) needs. :cutie:

On this particular monorail ride, we shared our car with the most adorable little girls. They were jumping up and down with excitement and squee-ing with happiness the entire time. It was so cute. And even though I desperately wanted to get up and jump and squee right along with them, I didn’t. I was afraid my family would pry open the monorail doors and shove me out because I was embarrassing them, and I don’t do well with falling.

Anyway, I internally squee-ed and wore a big, dopey smile on my face as we pulled into the station. And let me just say, that first step out onto that reddish brown-tiled monorail platform was GLORIOUS. I could have stood there forever, happily staring at my flip flop clad feet and noticing how even they looked happy (Is it possible for feet to be happy?), but really who wants to stare at your feet when seven lands of fantasy are waiting just around the bend? Also, if I had stood there for much longer, I would have been plowed over by a hoard of angry tourists. I’m talking dramatically being shoved to the ground by a crazy “commando” DISer, while being run over by a zillion strollers, and stepped on by that one crazy lady you always see who wears 6 inch stilettos to the parks. *shudder*

So I kept on moving, practically skipping all the way down the ramp and into the bag check line with Mom. Dad and Katie were bagless, so they headed in without us. After security was confident that I wasn’t carrying any weapons in my Vera Bradley bag (because I’m sure most people who try to smuggle in contrabands do so with the cheeriest Vera Bradley pattern they can find), we FINALLY made it to the turnstiles. I know that some people are weirded out by Disney’s finger-scaning policy, but my lame self always has fun with it. I stick my ticket in and then I do a fun little index finger air swirl up to the scanner. :rotfl: I warned you ahead of time that I am a strange little thing…

Oh, I should also mention that Mom had a heck of a time getting her ticket to work. It kept getting stuck in the machine. Dad, Katie and I were all standing there waiting for her, but it just wouldn’t let her in. The CM at our turnstile didn’t know what to do, so she had to go ask another CM for assistance. Thankfully, that savior of a CM knew what she was doing and quickly realized that the ticket had a frayed edge that kept getting caught in the machine. We bought the plastic tickets from the Disney Store that you have to snap off before you can use, and I guess Mom’s didn’t snap evenly. Anyway, the savior CM filed it down and Mom was FINALLY in. :cheer2:

It was only a little after 8:30 according to this picture,
DSCN2973.jpg

So we had some time to wait before the Welcome Show began.

DSCN2974.jpg

I took this picture of one of the trees because I love that it’s covered in the streamers from previous Welcome Shows. I wonder if it’s always like that. I had never noticed it before, so maybe someone just didn’t have time to climb up there and clean the tree out.

I should also mention that it was FREAKING HOT this morning. Like, we had only been outside for a few minutes, but I was already sweating. The sun was just brutal. Thankfully, a little boy standing near us had one of those spray mister fan thingies and every once in a while I’d catch a little errant mist. Thank goodness for little kids with bad aim.

Oh, and at one point they were playing “You've Got a Friend in Me” in the background and I felt like crying buckets of happy tears. Those of you who read my PTR know how affected I was by the Toy Story movies (3 in particular) so lately anytime I even think about that song I border on bursting into tears/actually do burst into tears. I didn’t cry this time, or at least I don’t think I did. For all I know, with that crazy heat, the tears evaporated the second they left my tear ducts.

Finally, around 8:50, those beautiful sounds of “Welcome Welcome Welcome” were blasted over the speakers, signaling the start of the Welcome Show!! I absolutely adore the Welcome Show. It’s so cute, and so magical, and so Disney. :wizard: I mean, there’s singing and dancing and characters…what’s not to love? And trust me when I say that the little song will get stuck in your head ALL DAY. “It’s all pure magic, wrapped up in Pixie Dust. Welcome to a place where dreams come true….”

I consider the Magic Kingdom Welcome Show a must-do. Stacy, girl, add it to your list. EVERYONE MUST SEE IT AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIFE. I don’t care if you’re not a morning person. Get your butt out of bed just ONE TIME to get to the Magic Kingdom for opening. You won’t regret it. Unless you’re some strange, heartless creature who doesn’t like to smile…Then, you’ll probably think it’s lame. But if you love Disney enough to be reading this TR, then you will love this show.

Unfortunately, I don’t have many good pictures from the show. We were facing directly into the sun, so most of them ended up not turning out. But here are the few that didn’t turn into giant blobs of light.

DSCN2975.jpg

Here’s the Mayor of Main Street from behind. How do I run for that office?

DSCN2976.jpg

If they don’t let me be mayor, I’ll settle for being one of these dancers. I already know most of the choreography from watching it so many times.

Image002.jpg

Aladdin and Jasmine look like they’re about to make out in this picture. Jasmine, I am INCREDIBLY JEALOUS of you. Can we trade places for a day?

After we counted down from 10 and the Magic Kingdom was officially declared open, we joined the masses trying to squeeze through the tunnels under the train station. And once we emerged, we had this waiting for us…

MAIN STREET U.S.A.

[PS: I promise there are much better pictures of Main St. that I’ll post later in the report. I thought about posting them all now, but then decided that I’d rather keep everything chronological.]

That first stroll…oh who am I kidding? That first fast-paced-walk-so-we-can-be-some-of-the-first-people-back-to-Frontierland down Main Street gives me the greatest feeling ever. It makes me feel like I’m home again. All of the cares and worries of real life just float away as I let myself be immersed in all that surrounds me. I often find myself bopping my head along with the background music as I wave “hello” to all of the CMs lining the street. If only the entire world was as cheerful as Main Street U.S.A…

And then, the fact that *this* is waiting for you at the end of the street is just too much.

Cinderella is one lucky girl.

UP NEXT: We head off to Frontierland for a rootin’ tootin’ good time!!

Yay!! Personally, I've enjoyed your updates so I don't know why you don't like them because I find them fabulous! But i'm really never satisfied with my own work either. *Perfectionist* Ok, onto the update!!!

SUCK IT RICH PEOPLE LOOOOOOOOL

I love when I see little kids freaking out with excitement at WDW. I admire your talent to hold in the outward squeeing because I do not possess such self-control. You should have seen me on MK EMH night, I made a bit of a scene on the monorail... but... we'll get to that in my TR. Uh, someday.

Yes it is possible for your feet to be happy! I know this because it is also possible for your feet to be scared, especially when it's your last full day at WDW and you plan to be hitting the parks from morning EMH to evening EMH without stopping.

Thank you for the suggestion about Vera Bradley. Next time I am trying to smuggle in my AK-47 I will keep it in a Vera Bradley. I don't know if my Flamethrower will fit but hopefully they can custom make one for me.

LOL, my cousin refuses to do the fingerscan. He shows ID every time. He says "THERE IS NO NEED FOR THEM TO HAVE MY FINGERPRINTS!! THIS ISN'T THE CIA." Poor guy doesn't get that Disney is more powerful and also more important than the CIA, FBI, and all government and spy organizations and if he won't give them his fingerprint, they'll just sneak into his bedroom at night and take it anyway!

OMG, I didn't notice the streamers in the tree!! That is so awesome. I am going to have to take a picture of that next time I'm there, if I can see my camera through the tears that come when the Welcome Show is going on. Oh and FORGET IT if they play "You've Got A Friend In Me." Like, I just can't handle that. I love though, when you're somewhere at WDW and you hear random music playing and then realize it's from one of your many many favorite Disney movies and you get all nostalgic and............sigh.

LOL at Aladdin and Jasmine. I like how the other characters are all like *participating in Welcome show* and Aladdin and Jasmine are just like "OMG ILU"

Why am I not walking up Main Street right now? I just need someone to put an IV in my arm that constantly feeds me Disney World so I can survive. Is that possible? We put a man on the moon, how hard can this be?!

I saw the opening show at the MK for the first time this year...even though I know the song word for word! AND, after that experience, I couldn't help tearing up walking down Main Street that morning! It's just SO GOOD!

I love “You've Got a Friend in Me” - it's one of my favorite songs. I've even seen Randy Newman play it.

Aw man, we missed each other..but not by much!

Seriously, I teared up reading your update. I loved the opening show SO much. I agree. Stacy needs to add it to her list!

I can't wait for more updates from this day because I would laugh if we ended up in some of your pics or vice versa!

And OMG- I could not believe some of the shoes/outfits that ladies/girls were wearing at the parks! Like how did they manage to wear those stilletos the WHOLE day?!

I loved your update. I always love MK updates. They make me so happy.

Who DOESN'T adore the opening show? Omg, it's amazing. I would have definitely started crying if I heard "You've Got a Friend in Me." Toy Story 3 was such a tearjerker for me!

Stacy definitely needs to add the show to her list. Maybe for next year's "Top 10", and then they can make her all hyper again, too!

HAHA I LOVE that TOT sign. But I don't really understand why they need it considering you can see the actual TOT from the road.

Aw thanks, girl!! Perfectionist is my middle name, so I always write and re-write and then re-write again. But I'm glad to know that y'all are enjoying what I'm writing.

Unfortunately, I come from a family that doesn't squee, so I've had a lot of practice at holding them in. I long for the day when I can go to WDW and outwardly squee to my heart's content.

I'm sure Vera Bradley would custom make a case for your Flamethrower. I mean, they make bags for everything else. Why not start a weapons case line of products? I mean, think of how trendy police officers would look with Vera Bradley holsters? And, you know what, screw camoflauge!! I say we dress all of our military in a nice floral pattern. It would definitely help the rest of the world to respect us more. :thumbsup2

I think we need to make friends (or possibly more ;)) with a scientist so we can get that IV thing to happen. It would definitely help me get through everyday life.

I saw the opening show at the MK for the first time this year...even though I know the song word for word! AND, after that experience, I couldn't help tearing up walking down Main Street that morning! It's just SO GOOD!
Exactly. I mean, it's simple in the grand sceme of Disney, but it just carries so much meaning. It's the perfect example of what Disney is all about.

I love “You've Got a Friend in Me” - it's one of my favorite songs. I've even seen Randy Newman play it.
OMG. That is SO COOL. I am so jealous.

I know, right? I can understand wearing stilettos at a nice dinner, or MAYBE even in the evening at the parks if you were coming directly from dinner, but at 9:00 in the morning? That makes *my* feet hurt to think about. And it would be so weird to be wearing heels on the rides. I'm pretty sure I'd kill myself trying to step onto and off of the moving sidewalks at Peter Pan or the Haunted Mansion. :rotfl:

And we totally need to do a day by day comparison of where we were at all times. :upsidedow

OMG. YES. I miss the overly hyper Stacy. Now that her wackiness is interspliced with clips of her being all serious, it just doesn't have the same effect as the old version. Come on, Disney! LET THAT CRAZY WOMAN BE CRAZY AGAIN.

Haha, that would be me- falling getting on or off PP or the HM. Then, I'd have like marks on the side of my face from the moving platform the rest of the day. :rotfl:

Yes we do need to compare!

I like how you want to pass by the GF to get to MK :thumbsup2 I love the monorail but it makes me more anxious to get to the MK because you can see almost the entire time yet you have to stop by all of the hotels!

I also believe the MK show is a must do! I get all misty eyed every time I watch it!

I love that first walk down Main Street USA I really wish people with Mickey gloves greeted me wherever I went in the mornings :lmao:

Can't wait for more!
