"It's Coming and it's BLUE" - A July 2010 TR - COMPLETED!!

The sky was just gorgeous that day!! :cloud9:

I personally don't like that Space takes your pic now. It's in the most random place! They should put it as you're going down a drop or something?? :confused3

I really love Agrabah. I actually wish there was more to it besides a few shops. I know the Magic Carpets and the Aladdin meet and greet are both there, but to me, it just seems like it needs something else.
Oh my gosh, I know, right? The clouds are perfect!

Totally. An entire Agrabah-themed land would be amazing. There's just so much untapped potential there. I don't really know how/where they'd find the room to expand, but I would definitely enjoy an expanded Agrabah. :thumbsup2
Ahhh now we know so we can add it to the story :rotfl: That's a very nice plan. How cute :lovestruc Disney proposals can be done in so many wonderful ways!

You don't know how much I just LOVED that. I FEEL THE SAME WAY!!!!! I am obsessed with aladdin. One of my points of criteria on my perfect boy list is that he has to look like aladdin :lovestruc hahaha. Kristen and I have split up Aladdin and Prince Eric, because although we both know Aladdin is the best, she figures she can easily avoid a lot of arguments with me if she takes Prince Eric for herself (I mean... he's not bad looking either! I just have my heart set on Aladdin.)

So yes... I understand your love. I love meeting Aladdin. Every time I meet him I want to be Jasmine more and more. I hope one day.... :cloud9:
Definitely add it to the story. Now we'll have to start planning our Disney weddings. :upsidedow

My friend's boyfriend looks a lot like Aladdin. Not gonna lie, I'm kinda jealous. Where's my Disney prince look-a-like??? :rotfl:

Aw, I really hope you get to be Jasmine someday! I'm sure you'd be perfect. :goodvibes

LOL I'm getting married there. I'm prepping my parents now :rotfl: I just need to find the boy first... hahaha

And oh my Goddd I'm jealous too. One of my best friend's older brother looks like Aladdin and I talk about it all the time :lmao: She must think I'm a creep. Actually, no she doesn't... but still. HE would think I'm a creep (if he knew...). Actually everyone always tells him that he looks like Aladdin so I guess I'm okay. LOL I'm just justifying for myself over here... Sorry I just love Disney Character look a likes.... :goodvibes

And aww me too!! I really really do :cloud9:

I didn't know Disney didn't have a Hercules meet and greet. That's so strange having Meg there and not Hercules. I love Aladdin too. I haven't "met" him yet but he seems so cute and funny. Once my sister and I were watching him greet guests and he saw my sis and I standing there and he waved at us and shouted, "hi guys!" After smiling back I walked away real fast because I got bashful lol :rotfl:

I LOVE Cosmic Ray's! That place is like my childhood! :cloud9: I love all of those songs too! Yew Nork is definitely a fave! That chicken mashed potato bowl looks YUM.

YAYYYY we know where you want to get proposed to now!!! :cool1: I will add that to the story RIGHT NOW.

Aladdin is beautiful.   GREAT movie. My childhood as well, in a nutshell. And I'm all in for the Hercules movement. :hippie:

Jess loved that snow globe in January, we took a pic with it!

Okay, I am TERRIFIED of jellyfish, so I definitely do NOT want one of those decorative ones lol.

Main Street is perfect, I love walking around there and just taking it all in. :cloud9: How I miss it... :(

Can't wait to see some more POLY pics...:woohoo:

This is SO true. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEE Aladdin, but being that Jess looks more like Jasmine, I let her have him. (Secretly I am going to steal him one day...muahahahhhh.) What a nice friend I am when not in parentheses.

So yes... I understand your love. I love meeting Aladdin. Every time I meet him I want to be Jasmine more and more. I hope one day.... :cloud9:

One dayyyy...that was supposed to be sung...:rotfl2:

Definitely add it to the story. Now we'll have to start planning our Disney weddings. :upsidedow

YES we will. I LOVE weddings and I have been to sooo many I can't even count them all anymore. So I will help you guys plan yours too. :flower3:

My friend's boyfriend looks a lot like Aladdin. Not gonna lie, I'm kinda jealous. Where's my Disney prince look-a-like??? :rotfl:

Hahaha yeah where's mine too?? :confused3 They're probably just playing hard to get...:lmao:

And oh my Goddd I'm jealous too. One of my best friend's older brother looks like Aladdin and I talk about it all the time :lmao: She must think I'm a creep. Actually, no she doesn't... but still. And aww me too!! I really really do :cloud9:
I've already told my family I'm getting married at Disney. It's gonna be a small, intimate gathering on Sunset Point at the Polynesian right as the sun sets. Someone will play "We Belong Together" from Toy Story 3 on the ukelele. After the ceremony, we'll head right over to 'Ohana for a delicious meal and a couple lapu lapus. It'll be perfect. If only I had a boy to share it with.... :upsidedow

I love Disney character look-a-likes too!

I think they used to have Hercules out, but I haven't heard anything about him in years. It's definitely weird to have Meg but no Hercules.

Aladdin is definitely both cute and funny. :lovestruc I'm pretty sure he makes every girl bashful. ;)
I LOVE Cosmic Ray's! That place is like my childhood! :cloud9: I love all of those songs too! Yew Nork is definitely a fave! That chicken mashed potato bowl looks YUM.

Same. I have so many fond memories of Cosmic Ray's over the years.

I think jellyfish are so cool! Of course, I wouldn't want to encounter one out in the open, but, in tanks, they're awesome.

There will be a bunch of Poly pics in the next update, so get ready to "oooh" and "aaaah" and wish that your trip would get here sooner! :thumbsup2

Hey Kara :) I have a question lol. Do you have any other good youtube series of people's Disney trips like you recommended in the giraffe update? That one with the 4 college kids was just so entertaining and I wondered if you found any others that could try and live up to it :goodvibes

I still have a long way to go, but I am really enjoying your report. I enjoy your writing and your enthusiasm. :)

I just finished reading!
I would like a Hercules meet and greet! I went on a Disney cruise back in 2006 and they had a Hercules stage show that was so fun. And on the last night (when a lot of the characters are posing for photos) I had a chance to chat with Hades! He was just so much more personable than I would have expected. He kept telling my niece to "stay in school".
Write more soon, please!

Darn it. I had a super long comment to your posts and was logged out so it all got lost....You'd think I would've learned from posting my own updates.

Ok, gist of it was, awww, last day. But it looks like it's a fun last day!

I love Aladdin too. So much. He's my ideal Disney man. It's also my favourite movie.

I can't do IASW. Not after playing Epic Mickey. It just creeps me out too much.

Can't wait to see your other SM ride photos!

I just found your report today and got all caught up! So pardon that some of my comments date back to like a million years ago!

Poor girl having wisdom teeth issues right before the trip! Wisdom teeth are EVIL!
I have panic attacks, too. So much fun, huh??) Oh, and I heart Glee, too. Darren Criss needs to call me. Mostly because if we get married, my name will be Crystal Criss, and that is just plain awesome.

Is it lame that I totally recognize where you are in your funky Downtown Orlando shot? That appears to be right by exit 72.

You're totally right about florida humidity and hair. 3 years and my hair never adjusted. The messy bun is my friend, as are hats.

UGGH about the room wait taking so long! The sad thing is, if it was down for maintenance, the CM that checked you in should have been able to see that and either tell you or switch rooms, it's pretty obvious. Umm... or so I hear. Cough cough, don't hate me Disney, cough cough. Ahem.

Those homemade chips from Captain Cooks are amazeballs! I really need to get around to trying the grilled cheese eventually!

Rice Krispy Mickey is TOTALLY a healthy breakfast. I mean, hello, it's cereal.

I'm really tempted to take an empty water bottle to Eppycot, fill it with the watermelon soda, freeze it and enjoy. (Zebra domes are also awesome when frozen, btw.)

I need that Hey Jude shirt like... yesterday. (OMG BAD PUN. SO SORRY.)

My dream job is to be a zebra at FOLK. We can totally work there together.

Since NSYNC is kind of a running theme, I'll share a story-- a couple of years ago a big group from my resort decided to hit Food & Wine to see Boyz II Men (and also to see some food and wine.) We got in line for the show like 2 hours early, which was absurd, but also pretty ok since we kept sending people on booze runs. We ended up in the front row, obviously, but there was a row about 2 back from us that was roped off. Finally just before the show, they led people into it, one of whom was Joey Fatone. I made my friends pretend to pose for a pic so I could secretly snap one of him, or more specifically, the fact that we had way more awesome seats than him.

Looking forward to the rest of your report!

Oh my gosh, you MUST post that pic of Joey here PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JULY 27TH PART FIVE: ME, MY HAMMOCK, AND I

Well, hello there, DISboards. Long time, no see. I'm really sorry about that. Life, y'know? Anyway, considering the fact that I WILL BE ON MY WAY TO FLORIDA ONE MONTH FROM TODAY (Speaking of which, my ticker stopped working! I hate to start a new one so late, but I guess I have to...), I figured it was time to wrap this thing up and maybe get started on a PTR. We'll see. I also need to catch up on all of your fabulous TRs. I'm so behiiiiiind, but I'm thoroughly excited to read all about your adventures.

But, without further adieu, here's a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW installment of the greatest trip report you will ever read. :upsidedow

When I last left off (ages and ages ago), we were headed back to the Polynesian for some afternoon R&R. I know that I’ve already posted like 60033838938583 pictures from the MK/GF/Poly boat, but I took a lot, so you’re just gonna have to suffer through some more.

288.jpg

When we disembarked (I love that word) at the Poly, the boat driver (captain? I don’t know proper nautical terminology) gave out Walt Disney World Watercraft stickers to all of the kids, including Katie and I. You’ve gotta love a place where an 18-year-old and a 20-year-old are still considered kids. I mean, I’m a month away from being 21, and I still have a hard time identifying as an adult. So, thanks, WDW, for playing along with my Peter Pan-esque delusions.

I practically skipped up the dock and to our room to drop off my bag and grab my refillable mug before heading over to my favorite spot in all the world - and I don’t just mean in WDW – my hammock. Well, there was a quick detour to Captain Cook’s thrown in there, but right after that I went straight to the beach to claim my hammock.

*My* hammock is the one that runs parallel to Sunset Point and is closest to the lagoon. I don’t have a picture of the hammock itself (I don’t know why I didn’t think to take one) but here are a bunch of shots of the gorgeous view.
866.jpg

867.jpg

871.jpg

872.jpg

879.jpg

And, of course, the absolute best part of the view: Cinderella Castle!
852.jpg

876.jpg

I absolutely love the shadow of the palm tree in that first picture. And the castle ain’t that bad either. ;)

At one point, Katie came over from the pool and joined me for a little hammock time.
850.jpg

Though I do love her face in this picture, it's best if I also post a "Smile, you're at Disney!" pic as well so she doesn't hate me forever.
851.jpg

And here's our little cheerleader at work...
865.jpg

It took a good twenty times before we finally got this shot. As I’ve complained a million times before, my camera has the worst delay (Thank goodness my parents are buying me a new camera for my birthday/our upcoming trip), so it took quite a while before we got the timing right.

After some quality sister time and a lot of laughs, Katie headed back to the pool leaving me to do what any normal person would do while lying in a hammock in their favorite place in the world: contemplate the meaning of life.

Ok, not quite, but I did do some thinking. As I looked across the lagoon at the Grand Floridian, I couldn’t help but think about just how cool it was that while I was lying there in my hammock with the palm trees rustling in the breeze and the Polynesian area music serenading me, there were people not too far away lying on the GF beach having an entirely different experience in a completely different environment. And that’s when it hit me…Walt Disney World really is its own little world. You get to enjoy countless different destinations all in one vacation. I mean, where else can you go to partake in an African safari, a space shuttle launch to Mars, a Polynesian luau, and a journey to Neverland all in one day? Sure, we’re not experiencing the real thing as those who don’t get Disney are apt to point out, but really, what does “the real thing” even mean? No, Kilimanjaro Safari isn’t actually in Africa (Thank goodness because I don’t know if I could handle the 3034544400504 malaria shots we’d need to get before riding), but we’re still getting the chance to see animals that most of us don’t typically encounter on a regular basis. At least, *I* don’t encounter giraffes and hippos on a daily basis. I don’t know about you guys. ;)

Ah, I’m rambling. Ok, moving on…

After spending a decent chunk of time in my hammock, I decided it was time to head back to the room and take a nap. I guess I could’ve just napped in the hammock, but it was quite warm and I was ready for some AC. Of course, I couldn’t just walk back to the room without incident. That would’ve been much too normal for someone as abnormal as me. Because I don’t like wearing flip flops in the sand, I carried my shoes to the path, dropped them down on the ground, and then stepped directly into them, thus successfully avoiding contact with the scorching hot pavement. Except, stupid me wasn’t looking, and I managed to completely miss my shoe. It hurt like heck. I hobbled over to the pool to put my foot in the cool water. Also to whine about how awful it felt to my parents. I can’t be the only one who finds that whining to someone about whatever illness/pain I’m experiencing makes me feel a little better. After whining for an adequate amount of time and getting the “Seriously, kid, suck it up” look from both of my parents, I walked back to our room. My foot still hurt a bit and I probably looked like a total weirdo because I was trying to avoid stepping down completely, but I made it back without crying out in pain and falling into the foliage. I even managed to take a little detour because I really wanted to get a good picture of these particular flowers outside our room and I was afraid I’d forget to do it before we left…
881.jpg

Aren’t they just perfect? Gosh, I miss the Polynesian. Why doesn’t Ohio look like that?

Anyway, I hobbled back to the room and moved this towel animal out of the way before collapsing into bed and falling into a deep, air-conditioning induced sleep.
847.jpg

CONTINUED IN NEXT POST~

After my family dragged themselves away from the pool for the last time, dried off, and changed, they woke me up and we headed over to Captain Cook’s for dinner. I forgot to bring my camera with me, so I don’t have pictures, but I know that I ordered the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese again and it was as delicious as ever. I would be perfectly content eating one of those every day for the rest of my life.

With our stomachs full, we headed back over to the Magic Kingdom to enjoy our last night in the World.
891.jpg

I think I’m going to write a letter to President Obama asking him to hang these banners all over the country. There are just some days when I need to be reminded to “Celebrate Today!”

892.jpg

As you can see, we entered the Magic Kingdom through the right side of the train station. I’m sure you’re thinking “Yeah, and…?” because this isn’t all that out of the ordinary. Except, this actually was out of the ordinary for us. This was the first time we ever entered the Magic Kingdom on the right side. We always go in on the left side. Always. So going in through the right was a strange experience. It kind of felt like I was entering into some alternate universe version of WDW. :upsidedow

We made our way down Main Street and over to Tomorrowland via the path that runs through the Noodle Station or whatever it’s called now. I always wonder why more people don’t go that way. I mean, it’s never crowded.
896.jpg

897.jpg

Hover Hotel? I wonder if it’s like the space station from the Zenon movies…

898.jpg

899.jpg

I absolutely adore the architecture in Tomorrowland. The buildings are all so fun.

Since we had Fastpasses to use, we headed right back to Space Mountain.
902.jpg

904.jpg

905.jpg

I love the floor in the queue. So space-y.

Even with the FPs we had to wait like 20 minutes before boarding. I usually hate waiting for things (and flat out refuse to wait in the ridiculous 2 hour lines that are all too common in the summer) but I’d wait days to ride Space Mountain if I had to. I love it that much.

Here’s our ride picture…
907.jpg

Katie and I planned on posing, but, as you can see, I still hadn’t quite figured out where I was supposed to look so we wound up with this shot of me yelling “I don’t know where I’m supposed to look!” at my sister. Oh well…

After laughing at our picture, we headed back out into Tomorrowland.
908.jpg

909.jpg

My lazy self loves these moving sidewalks. :lovestruc

910.jpg

Will do. :thumbsup2

Once we made it back outside, Mom and Dad stopped to buy a couple bottles of water, so Katie and I went over and watched the dance party that was taking place. A DJ was joined by Stitch and Pluto and they were leading the crowd in dance party standards (The Cha Cha Slide for example). There were quite a few kids (and adults) dancing. Everyone seemed to be having a great time.
291-1.jpg

914.jpg

As we were walking back over to meet Mom and Dad, they started playing “Jump On It” so, OF COURSE, we had to stop and do the dance right in the middle of the sidewalk. As I’ve said a million times before, I have no shame. Katie usually has shame, but in this instance, she had none.
916.jpg

When the song ended, we bid adieu to Tomorrowland and headed off into the sunset…
917.jpg

Actually, we headed off to find a spot for the parade/fireworks, but heading off into the sunset sounds much more poetic.

UP NEXT: “I’m pretty sure his head is frozen.”’

Ah, these messages are from ages ago! I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you guys.
Hey Kara :) I have a question lol. Do you have any other good youtube series of people's Disney trips like you recommended in the giraffe update? That one with the 4 college kids was just so entertaining and I wondered if you found any others that could try and live up to it :goodvibes
I wish I did. Those videos are amazing. More people need to make awesome WDW videos like those kids.
I still have a long way to go, but I am really enjoying your report. I enjoy your writing and your enthusiasm. :)

There was a Hercules stage show!?!? That's amazing! I'm so bummed that I never got to see it. I am beyond jealous that you go to have a chat with Hades. Meeting him would be a dream come true.
Darn it. I had a super long comment to your posts and was logged out so it all got lost....You'd think I would've learned from posting my own updates.

Ok, gist of it was, awww, last day. But it looks like it's a fun last day!

YUKI!

It was definitely a fun last day. Bittersweet, but lots and lots of fun.

I love the creepiness of the IASW dolls. I think they're absolutely hilarious. Especially when you can hear their gears grinding. Have you ever seen the SNL sketch about animatronics? It cracks me up.
I just found your report today and got all caught up! So pardon that some of my comments date back to like a million years ago!

Hi! :wave2:

Oh, panic attacks are just lovely aren't they? :rotfl:

Crystal Criss kinda sounds like some sort of fabulous soft drink. LOL. I love it. And I love Darren Criss. He is quite something. ;)

Yeah, we were really confused about the whole room situation. We were afraid that "down for maintenance" was code for something like "A kid vomited all over your sheets" or "We found a snake crawling up the drain." Thankfully, we didn't encounter any problems once we finally got in the room.

Beatles puns are the best kind of puns. :thumbsup2

Oh, that's perfect! We can totally work at FOTLK together!

 That Joey Fatone story is awesome. I love that you made your friend move so you could secretly take a picture. I've done that quite often. Not with celebrities, but you see some strange things on college campuses...

Looking at your update makes me so jealous that Kristen, Lauren, and Kimmy are going to be there so soon! Kristen leaves tonight!

That hammock looks so relaxing. :cloud9:

You're right, it is pretty amazing that we can do all of these things at WDW. I mean where else can you say "I'll meet you in Italy in 15 minutes" ?!

Oooh those flowers look so pretty outside your room! I agree, you don't see those too often in the Midwest.

haha, Your Space Mountain ride photo made me laugh. I think that camera is in the most random place. I think it should be somewhere farther along in the ride.

WHAT???? AGAIN????

I have terrible luck...

Again....super long entry....but suddenly logged out....so lost it all...

*bangs head on work desk*

Ok....um.....I LOVE your Poly pictures.

I have no shame either! I often sing GLEE songs outloud while walking downtown.

I feel your foot pain. It's happened to me several times.

Love that action shot of Katie.

I've never been through the left entrance, so I'll have to try that out!

I love the beach at Poly. Didn't have a chance to go on my last trip though.

How do you get to the Noodle station path?

The hammock looks so relaxing and peaceful. :goodvibes

I love your TOMS. I've never thought of wearing mine to WDW. How did they hold up?

July 26th Part One: STOP YELLING AT ME!!

I had a hard time getting out of bed on this particular morning. A really hard time. It was our Animal Kingdom day, and well, you see, the Animal Kingdom and I have quite the love/hate relationship. Actually, it’s mostly hate with the occasional moment of love. The potential for fun has always been there, but every time I’m there it’s 58324368675309 degrees out, there are, like, 2 animals out on the safari (one being an ostrich, and we all know how I feel about birds, especially those that get dangerously close to me), there are 889398092199423 Brazilian tour groups, a bird tries to attack me, all of the foliage makes me feel claustrophobic, and I have to drink out of paper straws which, while fun for the first few seconds, quickly turns ugly after the straw gets wet and gross.

S

I feel the exact same way about AK! I couldnt of said it better myself. Thats why i decided Im just not gonna do it during summer. Also my DH was almost "gotten" by that same ostrich! and someone please tell me when brazil is not on vacation!

Kara, you are SOOOOO right about how WDW really is like it's own little world!! I always say to people, anything you want to do, you can do in WDW. Want to see a movie? You can. Want to play golf? Want to go to a Beirgarten? Want to rent a boat? Seriously....anything!

BTW, sooo weird about entering the MK on the left side because we ALWAYS enter on the right side!! On our last trip (which was also July) we did go in on the left side one day and I totally know what you mean! It's so disorienting!

GUYS. GUYS. Exactly one month from right now I will be celebrating the 4th of July at Epcot, probably by eating some delicious chicken tacos (and churros!!) from La Cantina de San Angel in Mexico before heading out to explore World Showcase. AHHHHH! I cannot believe the trip is almost here. I'm so excited! :dance3:

Oh gosh. I am so jealous of them. I hope they're having an amazing time!

Yeah, I don't really understand why they put the camera there. I mean, the ride has barely started! They might as well take a picture of us attempting to board the vehicle. Those pictures would be absolutely hilarious. There is no elegant way to climb into those things. I always look like an idiot. :rotfl:
WHAT????

I tend to get the most inappropriate songs stuck in my head right before I have to leave for class, so I spend my entire walk across campus trying to not to burst out into song. It is such a challenge.

To get to the Noodle Station path, just take a right at the Ice Cream Parlor. :thumbsup2
The hammock looks so relaxing and peaceful. :goodvibes

I love your TOMS. I've never thought of wearing mine to WDW. How did they hold up?
They held up well. I think TOMS are pretty much the most comfortable shoes ever and they definitely didn't disappoint. I was lucky, though, in that I was never caught out in the rain with them on. It happened to me once while walking home from class and it took quite a while for them to dry out.

Yeah, AK and I really didn't get along for quite some time. However, after this past trip, I'm really excited to go there again. I actually had a lot of fun. But, I totally get where you're coming from.

Exactly. :) I think that's why it bothers me so much when people are like, "Oh, you're going to WDW again?" It's so much more than just an amusement park. I mean, it's pretty much a city of its own. I have a feeling I wouldn't get that same "Again?" response if I vacationed in Chicago every year.

:rotfl: I was not expecting it to be as disorienting as it was. Who knew that there was such a difference between the left and ride side?
