O.K., at 5:30p.m. c.s.t. I recieved "the call". "Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have decided to cancel the Nov. 30, 2002 sailing". We are to leave tomorrow morning at 4:00 a.m. (just as last year) and I'm getting that knot in my stomach. Someone tell me it's going to be O.K.!!!!!

Ron,

365 days ago I was in OKW, anticipation growing at every turn .. Then the news at 6 !!!! Hard to believe it was a year ago ..

Don't worry .. it's actually gonna happen this time !!!!

Have a great time, enjoy the chocolate souffle and the Christmas decorations, especially the gingerbread house !!

Let me know what a great time you had when you return ... or maybe a LIVE update along the way ???

And the cancelled the sailing because....................

Please fill in the blank. I'm leaving on the 11/30 cruise and did not know about the cancellation last year.

It is only natural to be a little anxious. I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt...LOL! However, try to put the past out of your mind....keep the faith that the *pixie dust* is with you for the trip of a lifetime!! ENJOY!

They cancelled a sailing last year because of an outbreak of the so-called Norwalk virus on the ship. It was quite the story in the press around this time last year. Carnival and HAL also cancelled cruises last fall. It's really just a form of stomach flu, and is second only to the common cold as the most common virus. It's easily communicable and in the close quarters of a cruise ship (or a hotel, or a school, etc.) it's easy to spread. Cruise lines know a lot more about it this time around and are better able to limit its spread. The best thing you can do is to wash your hands thouroughly and often.

Best of luck to all those cruising in the next few weeks (myself included)!

Thanks for the info, I guess I did hear about that last year. But forgot. This is our first cruise and we are so excited.

I was wondering, when they cancelled your cruise how did they handle it?
Were you offered your money back? Alternate vacation plans? Or a rain check for a future cruise?
If you had already paid for flights etc, or were already in Florida, how was that handled?

CruisinKroezes........Initially it wasn't handled very well. "The call" came the night before we were to leave. I called every day for 10 days prior just to "make sure" WE WERE STILL SAILING. But......everyting eventually was taken care of very well be DCL. It DID take a couple months. We did go to WDW and do "the Wonder" on Dec 1. We couldn't cancell our flight the night before Thanksgiving 13 hours prior to us leaving. There were many in Florida and many like us on our way......It wasn't fun and I wouldn't with those 10 days on anyone......BUT as I said, DCL did take GREAT care of us monetarily even though I never DEMANDED it. I just kept voicing my didpleasure.

so, did you go to Florida anyways, since you had a flight booked or did you just stay home and take a loss on the flights.
It would be a shame to be all packed up and ready to go somewhere and then not to be able to go!

Don't worry! Have a great time and don't forget to knock back a few Conch Coolers for the rest of us! :faint:

Cruisin...we went but that is another story.......it's 7:30 c.s.t. and no call........Hold on to your hat Mickey....HERE WE COME!!!!!!! Thanks all, have a great Thanksgiving....I'll give a trip report.
