it's been a great holiday stay at BCV aside from our stolen money

We've been here at BCV since Dec. 21st and we've had a fantastic stay here at "home." The Christmas decorations are beautiful. The weather has been perfect for our entire stay. Cape May was a delicious (our first time eating there.) Our stay in a studio for the first time has been fine for the 4 of us...roomier than I imagined.

We did have one incident on our day of arrival that colored our stay a bit but not much we can do about it.

The day we arrived, we were having lunch at Hurricane Hannah's and my husband's wallet fell out of his pocket. He discovered it about 10 minutes later and rushed back to our spot. The couple sitting at the next table said they saw it and handed it to a woman working there who was sweeping up around the pool. My husband ran to the front desk and they had the wallet. When he opened it up, he discovered his cash ($150) was gone. The front desk pointed out the worker who had brought it to them. She acted very strangley when my husband asked her who she had gotten the wallet from...(couldn't remember who it was and where they were sitting.) Anyway, we wrote up a report with security. Certainly not going to point fingers but we can assume what happened.

So, it does pay to carry travelers checks and not everyone is as honest as you wish they were.

So sorry to hear about the money:sad2: but I'm glad you're having a good time otherwise! We'll be staying at BCV for the first time in April and are really looking forward to it! :goodvibes

Yes, Disney does such a good job 99.9% of the time that we forget we are still the the real world.

At least you still had your ID and credit cards, just think if that had been left at a turnpike rest stop?

And if this woman is consistently dishonest, with your report, she will eventually be found out and forced to leave Disney.

That's exactly my feelings. I told our kids, "I hope she really needs the money and is using it to to buy her family some nice Christmas gifts and if not...she has to live with the guilt of what she did."

Aww that stinks!!!! Sorry that happened :(

There is no way to know who took the money and I am amazed at how quickly some convict someone of theft without any evidence. Maybe the wallet was empty when she was given it. :confused3

Consider yourself lucky they took the cash and returned the wallet. DW lost her wallet on the Carousel of Progress a few years ago. She realized it about 20 minutes later and we all split up and checked out the theater. Even the cm's helped. We couldn't find it. We checked with lost and found every day (she lost it at the beginning of our 14 day trip) and nobody ever turned it in. We had to cancel credit cards, atm cards, etc. We would have loved to get it back, even without the cash in it. We figured someone took the cash and threw the wallet out somewhere because we had no problems with the credit cards- no one ever tried using them.

I agree. The money could have been stolen at any time, including by the family who said they saw the cm pick up the wallet.

I carry almost no money with me at DW. Everything gets charged to my room. I also carry a credit card with me in case there is somewhere which doesn't charge to my room (Jellyrolls comes to mind).

A couple years ago I was pickpocketed in Lisbon. Lost just about everything...cash, credit cards, ATM cards. Luckily my passport was in a different pocket and it wasn't lost. We were staying with relatives, so they lent me enough money to finish our vacation.

Lisbon police recommended that we make photo copies of our passports and leave the original passport someplace secure. Having to go through a passport replacement can be really tough these days.

We also now take an extra credit card with us and leave it somewhere secure so we have a backup.

not convicting anyone. We observed the family who was sitting there. They were quite helpful and it seemed pretty obvious that they did not feel the need or want to steal money. They are the ones who picked up the wallet from where it had fallen and gave it to the CM who said she was taking it right to the front desk. But you are right...maybe it was them. Maybe the money was taken before they picked up the wallet but since they were sitting there the whole time, not likely or they would have observed it.

Sammie, if we wanted to convict someone, we would have accused the worker to her face. We didn't do that. We left it alone and chalked it up as our loss. I think we handled it the best we could without creating a scene. We filed a report but we never said in the report that we felt that person had stolen our money.

I did not say you blamed anyone, others were quick to put the blame on someone they know nothing about nor were witness to the event. Obviously the people sitting near you did not see your husband's wallet drop or they would have stopped you then and there and told you, "You dropped your wallet". So by the time they did see the wallet anyone could have taken the money. Certainly any CM that is suspect is going to look terrified, their job is on the line. I think you handled a bad situation the best way you could. Others in the thread were quick to blame without any proof.

That was my point, I am sorry you lost your money, I have had it happen at WDW too.

I now understand your point Sammie. Once it was out of our hands, no telling what could have happened. Just glad it wasn't worse and our trip wasn't ruined.

Hope all of you DVC members have a Happy New Year and a Disney trip coming up soon in 2009!

All I could think of was Dirty Dancing where the cute little older well to do couple was busted for stealing and tried to frame the 'bad kids' for the thefts..
