It's Back-January Trip-A-Day Contest!

I don know when I want to go or where I would like to stay.... I have no idea what the options are! LOL...

Well I can solve that for you. Let's do a big girl vacation and you take me with you and I'll just decide for you. :rotfl2:

Seriously I'm not sure if they only give you the choice of deluxe or if you can do moderate, but I would also base my decision on how much you are willing to be taxed. Obviously you will be taxed more on $500 a night vs $300 a night.
Technically the vacation isn't free.

I am pretty sure when I win, I'll be requesting monorail resorts.
Time of year to go, that depends on what you have going with your family already. If your kids aren't in school and you like the Christmas time stuff, go that week before Thanksgiving. (not the week of)
But if you don't care about Christmas, the Halloween time is fun if you don't mind the heat. Or maybe the End of April. End of March is going to crash into Easter being April 5th and I will never go the week before or after Easter again.

But in the end, it's all going to depend on when they have a Castle night open for you.

Good luck figuring it out. I'm sure you'll have a blast even if you don't take me.:goodvibes

hmmmm don't know when your cruise is but is it down that way. Maybe you can attach the time to before or after you cruise.
Or wait and go in the Fall timeframe to get two trips in one year.

Actually I believe you have until January 31, 2016 (for some reason I remember that date) and you could go next January. Wonder if that puts it on next years taxes for winning tax hit.

Good luck deciding. You could get lucky and be "forced" to stay down there during a snow storm like my friend.

What is this affidavit that we need to fill out and send back?? What type of information is asked for that some people would be hesitant to give??

Have you taken the time to read the rules? Every Disney contest rules include a section about a criminal background check. There's nothing to be concerned about with the affy (unless you don't plan to report your winnings to the IRS or you are not who you say you are). But I'm thinking that there is probably a small percentage of people who may be dq'd because of the background check.

ahhhh!!! Im scared to ask, but what are the taxes that are usually paid but he winner?

The prize value is reported to the IRS on a Form 1099. You will report it as income. Figure that your tax liability will be around 33%, depending on your federal tax bracket, your state's rate, and any local taxes.

There is another trip-to-WDW contest going on right now with a prize valued over $16,000. I am not entering that one. No way do I want to pay more in taxes for a 5-day / 4-night trip than I am paying for 10-day / 11-nights. All I can think about that one is that the prize must be staying in one of those new Poly units that go for $2,000+ / night. It is sponsored by National Geographic.

Just Google estimated taxes for sweepstakes winnings. You should get an idea. I think since you'll receive a 1099, the value of the trip will be counted as additional income. Taxes will be based on your tax bracket.

I figure that 25 percent of the total prize would give you a rough estimate.

Ya I'm figuring between $2000-3000. It will all depend on where you end up staying and such. I believe the rules/entry page say the trip is valued between $7000 and 8000. These games shows that give away cars and trips, and people get all excited thinking it's free but have to give it up when they realize there is something they have to pay and they can't afford it.

For me it's more that I won't afford a deluxe vacation and stay in the moderate price to have vacation. What we will be paying in taxes is probably about what we have paid for a weeks vacation this last year. (keeping in mind I got great flight prices and had Disney Reward points. It's the only way I was able to go the multiple times I did and why I don't have one planned for this year....yet)

So a 4 night vacation is appealing because I'm hoping it would be at a resort that I would not be saving for in the next couple years and of course "The Castle" night.

Good luck deciding.

FYI- everyone has a diff tax bracket to percentages are diff. Big thing- you do not have to go off the number on the 1099! They will probably give rack rate when pricing out the 1099. If you can show proof you would have paid less (possibly with promotion) during that time you should be able to go off that price. You can save hundreds if not thousands in taxes. We won watches totally over 10k retail. We sold them and claimed the resale price for tax purposes as that was more fair market value. We kept all documents in case we are ever audited. Always talk to an accountant first.

Just looked at the rules for this one. It's a trip for 6 with accommodations in a 2 bedroom suite or villa. Yowza.

How amazing it would be to win this...I am in deep need of some Disney therapy!!!!!!!

The value of the hotel portion varies upon seasonal rate. Try to go in a "value season". We use DVC points and stay in deluxe resorts andthe points per night are lower in what they call the Adventure season.

My husband and I stayed at Yacht Club this past September and I think we paid around $250 per night with my passholder discount.

The costs of flights is what is making me say OUCH~! I'm not sure if Disney would be willing to hold off on the airfare.... United is the only one offering for the later part of the year. I don't want to pay such high taxes because of AIRFARE!

For a family of 4 it's more economically to drive. Lol

Are you from central ma? We are too!!

Central MA?

Ya I don't check as often on weekends. Figure Betty has the weekend off. ;)
Doesn't mean I don't check but just not as often.
Ok let me clarify, I don't think I will check as often.

Just heard from my friend down at WDW. Not only did she get her flight switched at no extra charge from JetBlue, and a discount to switch to POR from POP, and they are moving her luggage for her so that she can go to the parks for the day and enjoy. pixiedust:

Gonna go focus on my blessings of having a warm house with a beautiful snowy scene out my window and not having to go out at all today. Oh ya and full fridge that I didn't have to fight long lines of panicked people yesterday. I have to say that was a first. Usually the stores are crazy.

Hey maybe I'll use my snow shoes today. Got some for Christmas to ward off the long winter of too much snow. I'm with you hoping this is all we get for the rest of the winter, but looks like some other snow coming next week. sigh again only don't mind if I don't have somewhere I have to be.

:wave2:

Can't wait to have more DIS people report in that they won. Glad Serial found our thread. So exciting.
The second best thing for me to winning the castle trip would be actually being able to figure out how to get down there for Night of Joy weekend. Especially if Matt Maher is performing. :) Of course both would be awesome!

Don't get me wrong, there are other artist I would love to hear but he is on my mind because he has a new song out.
