It's Back-January Trip-A-Day Contest!

I wonder the opposite...rather than what to do with more than four people in your party. What if you are a family of three? Would they allow you to use the remaining value for something more? Can't imagine what.

I could be remembering wrongly, but it seems like last year there was a winner that didn't take all 4 people (I think it was just a couple) and Disney added a day or two in the resort and to the tickets. Don't take this to the bank, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that.

Ok just for giggles I dis a google search of images for "I love Betty".
Well look at that!!!!
I think I would stay with the "I  Betty" but there was a lot of other "Betty" references.

In regard to my wonder....I'm kind of at the 2 (DH and I) or we would be bringing my DH's best friend and family so we have to be at 7.
Then it would be an issue of who gets to come into the Castle suite and who can't.
So we go back to 2.

Right now it's 0 because I didn't get an email again today. sigh

Oh one of the favorites I saw was "Keep Calm because I love you Betty" and of course they had "Keep Calm and Love Betty".
Potential tshirt designs for sure.

You've got to give Betty some major props. She's a smart cookie. We should all keep an ear to the ground :listen: or an eye on our emails :magnify: you never know when "A Dream That You Wish Could Come True" :genie:pixiedust:

Anybody wondering if Betty is posting on here in disguise? :ssst:

Well I'm off to my Bathroom with the lighted palm tree, sand castle, beach towels and hot water in the tub.
I can't stand looking out the slider at all the snow on my deck and not have hope for a warm place to visit right now.
I saw someone posted on FB they are on vacation in Florida and bought mittens. Well I'd welcome a cool Florida over this current temps and snow anyday.

Good night Betty. Have a good weekend.

Pixie dust to all!

I'm the idiot who deleted the winning e-mail without opening it because it looked like spam. I emailed Betty's company (I didn't have her direct e-mail address) and Disney asking them to try to make the winning e-mail look less fishy in the future. If I recall correctly, the e-mail was from MISS BETTY WOODS. It was all in caps and had Miss in front of her name which are both odd things to see in a legitimate e-mail. In addition, it said I was a "potential" winner (which I laughed at when I saw it) and it wasn't from Disney. We've had a lot of training at my office on how to avoid intrusions into our computer system and there were just too many weird things in the e-mail for me to open it. I figured hackers had accessed the e-mail addresses of the people entering the Flip Side contest and were sending phishing e-mails.

I included a link to this thread in my e-mail to Betty's company and Disney because at the time, every winner indicated they did a little research before responding to Betty's e-mail because it looked fishy. I'm guessing that's how Betty found out about this thead.

I have been a mere lurker until now, but for this I had to finally create an account and post (I would have done it anyway, I guess...eventually.) This has got to be one of the saddest posts ever. It also fills me with dread because I know if I saw an email such as you have described, I, too, would have deleted it. Did I? I hope not!!

Ahh, this makes sense. So sorry this happened to you and I can totally see why you didn't open the email. Thank you for taking the time to let Ventura know what happened.

Wishing you pixie dust in another way. I get those all capitals in my spam folder and ya possibly would have and maybe did last year, had I not been on DIS and read the threads warning people where the email comes from. Honestly I thought a couple efforts would be made, but since scams are constantly (even the "IRS") hitting my phone, email and regular mail, it's really hard to know what "potential winner" is real. Especially if you are only notified one way. Over the years I was a lucky potential winner many times. I just deleted or threw it away because I didn't want to deal with a telemarketer.

And this is all why I have not entered multiple contests so that I don't get confused or scammed.
Right now here in the North East with all this freezing weather and snow, many people are being scammed by those taking advantage of us trying to protect our homes and businesses. As soon as you let your guard down and believe someone is helping you.......regret and disgust.

So I feel really sad for dismsn and missing out on being a winner.
Really the process should be giving people a fairer chance to prove a legitimate win than just relying on email announcement from someone they don't know.

Betty I still love you, but I also feel sad for dismsn. I guess it opens a can of worms to offer some pixie dust of some sort, but then again not. Betty knows the legit winners who may have fallen into this situation. I guess we have to read the fine print of the terms and make sure when we enter a contest we understand how we will be contacted and so on. But email is really not the best.
Now a big Mickey Mail Envelope in the regular US postoffice or other physical service would be way better. Like the FedEx guy and us needing to sign....wahoo.
I would hate scammers to find out about all this and start sending emails to us pretending they are Betty. Her email account doesn't have to be hacked for someone to pretend the email is from her.

I could go on and on......but ya be careful everyone.

Did anyone get the word of the day yesterday for Wendy Williams giveaway?

Thanks for feeling sorry for me but as I stated earlier in the thread when I first realized what happened I think things happen for a reason and hopefully one of the DIS Board members won the trip instead. My oldest daughter is getting married and my youngest is still in college and we really can't afford the taxes or any of the extra expenses at this time (although a night in the castle would have been fun). Also, we were just there in September and had a wonderful trip.

Hey all! I have received my "Congratulations" email from Betty and am now waiting for Disney to contact me!!! Also, great news: Betty asked me in her message yesterday to "tell the folks on the Disboard there’s still a bit of hope left...I am still contacting alternates for a few days and have not done the Grand Prize drawing yet." I guess she's a Disboard reader!
Awesome!

How did Betty know you were a DISer?:)

Oh congrats on the wedding and last one in college. Super glad you had a September trip this year.
Maybe!!! your alternate is someone with children that never have been to Disney. Lots of positive ways to look at it.
I'm glad you have a good attitude about it. I hope Pixie dust does go your way in some fashion but sounds like you have a pixie dust attitude so pixie dust is a daily thing for you. Congrats!

Awesome!

This is an EXCELLENT question. I love it!!!! Ya how does Betty know?.....hmmmmm

It wouldn't be that hard for Betty, or anyone else at the sweepstakes company, to figure out really. Several of the winners are new DisBoards members since googling after the won. So the sweepstakes company people might Google the contest as well. Park Hopping Goddess posted when she got the Betty email and I asked her which date she'd won for since it's put on the email. She shared that with us. It would be easy for the sweepstakes company to figure out which winners post here and what their Dis screen name is!

Oh that was too logical. I like the hmmmm factor better. LOL

I can't remember the official rules for this contest but I read the rules on the WW one and it did say that you cannot claim the extra value if you choose to not bring 4. In that situation I would consider either asking a favorite grandparent/aunt/uncle/cousin OR possibly letting my child bring a friend. My 8 year old was talking today about how one of her friends is at Disney this week and how cool would it be if we went there and saw her ;) Obviously you would have to know the other child's parents well enough for them to trust you leaving the state with their child but in the right circumstances it could be a pretty awesome memory
