I'm the idiot who deleted the winning e-mail without opening it because it looked like spam. I emailed Betty's company (I didn't have her direct e-mail address) and Disney asking them to try to make the winning e-mail look less fishy in the future. If I recall correctly, the e-mail was from MISS BETTY WOODS. It was all in caps and had Miss in front of her name which are both odd things to see in a legitimate e-mail. In addition, it said I was a "potential" winner (which I laughed at when I saw it) and it wasn't from Disney. We've had a lot of training at my office on how to avoid intrusions into our computer system and there were just too many weird things in the e-mail for me to open it. I figured hackers had accessed the e-mail addresses of the people entering the Flip Side contest and were sending phishing e-mails.
I included a link to this thread in my e-mail to Betty's company and Disney because at the time, every winner indicated they did a little research before responding to Betty's e-mail because it looked fishy. I'm guessing that's how Betty found out about this thead.
Wishing you pixie dust in another way. I get those all capitals in my spam folder and ya possibly would have and maybe did last year, had I not been on DIS and read the threads warning people where the email comes from. Honestly I thought a couple efforts would be made, but since scams are constantly (even the "IRS") hitting my phone, email and regular mail, it's really hard to know what "potential winner" is real. Especially if you are only notified one way. Over the years I was a lucky potential winner many times. I just deleted or threw it away because I didn't want to deal with a telemarketer.
And this is all why I have not entered multiple contests so that I don't get confused or scammed.
Right now here in the North East with all this freezing weather and snow, many people are being scammed by those taking advantage of us trying to protect our homes and businesses. As soon as you let your guard down and believe someone is helping you.......regret and disgust.
So I feel really sad for dismsn and missing out on being a winner.
Really the process should be giving people a fairer chance to prove a legitimate win than just relying on email announcement from someone they don't know.
Betty I still love you, but I also feel sad for dismsn. I guess it opens a can of worms to offer some pixie dust of some sort, but then again not. Betty knows the legit winners who may have fallen into this situation. I guess we have to read the fine print of the terms and make sure when we enter a contest we understand how we will be contacted and so on. But email is really not the best.
Now a big Mickey Mail Envelope in the regular US postoffice or other physical service would be way better. Like the FedEx guy and us needing to sign....wahoo.
I would hate scammers to find out about all this and start sending emails to us pretending they are Betty. Her email account doesn't have to be hacked for someone to pretend the email is from her.
I could go on and on......but ya be careful everyone.
