Ooh, thanks for the concern.

I didn't even think it would sound bad but in isolation....I guess it does.

I'm on the 'bench' and waiting to be placed at a different contract. Getting placed on contract depends on what the client wants, who else is available and whether the moons are shining on you at that particular time.
There are also a million and one people in the office and despite getting in at 8.45 am this morning, there was no 'hot' desk space available. So, after attending a couple of meetings and doing the standard walk round the office, I headed on home...early.


I haven't updated my resume in like 8 years and I'm supposed to do it every 6 months. So, I've come home to work on it where I have access to a computer, coffee and snacks.
Sadly, my memory doesn't even stretch back 2 days....much less 8 years...so I'm looking for DisAmusement right now rather than working on making sense out of jumble!

I know I was supposed to update my resume during the darkest days here but I have a mental block on doing it. It isn't Swiss cheese... but just I couldn't convince myself to do it...

Anyway. Hope you're ok with the happenings and that you get settled in a happy home soon...

I am a permenant employee of the company that employees me. I get paid even when I am on the bench and have sick leave, holiday leave, long service leave, bonus etc ...standard Aussie employment conditions with them.

In between contracts, you pretty much sit on the 'bench' and wait for your turn to be 'tagged' so you go out on the playing field again (with a new client and contract).

I hate being on the bench because it means that I have to play internal company politics. Being at a client site means that I don't have to worry about politics at all. So today, I've done my bit this morning....I will be working on a business proposal for the rest of the week.....now....if only I believed that the business proposal would equate to a contract for my company.

There is work....I'm just waiting for the right opportunity.
I've worked for this company for nearly 13 years and have some flexibility in choosing what I want and where I want to go. From a lifestyle perspective, the company is great for me. I get to work 3 days a week, get paid when I'm not at a client site, have great working conditions etc.

And because the office people know me, I also have the flexibility of not going into the office everyday when I'm benching.

Sadly, because I agreed to do the busines proposal, I'll be heading in on all working days. And not every business proposal translates into a contract. On average, we win a contract for every 5 or 6 proposals that we submit.

I am sure you will get a contract soon. I get to go out to my favorite store tomorrow. I havent shopped for anything since last black friday. I dont call grocery shopping anything enjoyable. It is a month for putting out money though.
