I have a number of scav hunt related items to get for Halloween. For a country that doesn't do Halloween, I've managed t get about 75% of them so far. :lmao:

Still need to get My neighbourhood Halloween night, Halloween candy bowl and Frankenstein. I've gotten the rest. The American Women's Association is running a fundraiser and holding a Halloween party. Tix are $15. I'm thinking of heading over...but there are usually about 5 families that go round trick or treating in my neighbourhood. I'll see how I feel. I can organise a bowl of Halloween candy at home; so that's no probs. And Frankenstein? I'll check out a couple of the local dress-up shops and see if they have a Frankenstein in costume in their windows.

Dinner time over here. I need to start getting ready to head over to my parents.

Do you have a large trick or treating community around you?

No but we do some cool things since houses aren't packed densely to go door to door.

One elemtary school has a big party. It's not cheap but it's fun and lots of people adults too dress up.

One community you go to a parking lot with candy in your trunk(boot) and everyone parks in a circle and the kids go around. It's quick but gets the job done for the kids.

Another has trick or treating around the core of town. The stores hand out candy.

Other than that I'll just swing him by some friend and neighbor houses that will be expecting him.

I see a lot of chicken, turkey and roast beef recipes appearing on the What's For Dinner thread!

How long do you keep the cooked ham and turkey in the freezer for? And when you thaw it out, do you leave it on the bench top or microwave it?

Well that's a good question! I'm going to have a lot more cooked meat on hand than in the past. I'm not sure what the deal is, they say not to keep things on hand more than 6 months, but we often are eating things that have been in the freezer for a year and they are fine. These turkeys are from last Thanksgiving and they are OK.

I usually take the meat out a day or two before I plan to use it and just thaw it in the fridge. If I forget, I put the bag in a tub of water and it will thaw within an hour. Evidently it's not safe to let it thaw on the counter, but if it is immersed in water it's OK.

I better work on paring down my freezer over the next few months. The one in my main kitchen is packed. Fran will be in heaven. She loves sandwiches. I actually find them as a cop out for a real meal, but I guess if I keep a pack of the sliced meat in the fridge at all times, she will be happy and I will have her food needs taken care of! :thumbsup2

We barely get anyone who comes by any more. Our apartment looks like a house so people do come to the door, but not a lot, they have been dwindling over the years. We will be in WDW for Halloween so we should probably unscrew the lightbulb before we go. The cat sitters won't know to do so.

I could Dine with Fran. Sandwhiches any time!

Also regarding TV. TBS has changed when the Office is on and there used to be 5 episode on Tuesday night. Instead I watched Glee.

So....we're in October. What are y'all got planned for Halloween? Do you celebrate?

What's this Halloween thing you speak of? :confused3

I thought it might be a bit exciting seeing stuff up for halloween when we were in the USA during October for the first time. Well...yeah...not so much. :confused3

The reason I thought it might be exciting is because I am a huge haunted mansion fan. So perhaps a Disney Halloween might be nice. But still. I'm much much much more a Christmas person.

The only Halloween related encounter we have had at our house is these two kids who came around just to make trouble. They were carrying a baseball bat and saying trick or treat....no costume really....and no lolly bag...

Let's just say my mum can be a very scary lady :rolleyes1
They moved on...

That's all we've ever seen in my neck of the woods

I met FLW wife and she shared quite a bit of the life that went on. It was very interesting. She is a lovely woman.

I assume you met the third wife unless you are much older than I imagine

Catherine "Kitty" (Tobin) Wright (1871–1959); social worker, socialite (married in June 1889; divorced November 1922)
Maude "Miriam" (Noel) Wright (1869–1930), artist (married in November 1923; divorced August 1927)
Olga Ivanovna "Olgivanna" (Lazovich Milanoff) Lloyd Wright (1897–1985), dancer and writer (married in August 1928)

The third wife outlived him and so lived off his fame and fortune in the time after his passing.....
The one he married first and abandoned supported him through those toughest times. And what he did to Louis Kahn is inexcusable in my eyes...

Jmho...:rolleyes1

DS4 is dressing up as Handy Manny and decided that DS3mos will be a blue crayon. I wish I could sew, because the price you pay does not reflect in the quality of either costume.

Do you have a large trick or treating community around you?

We usually get together with extended family in town and do a little trick or treating around whoever's house we gather at (which was my little sister's last year). There are events hel at churches and schools, but I have never attended any those.

This year, we will stay home since DS will only be 4 mos old. Our neighborhhood is on the outskirts of town, so there are not a whole lot of houses around. It's okay, because our baby will probably only go to a few houses just so we can say we did it. He cannot eat the candy, and we can just buy as much candy as we'd like for our older son.

In 2013, we are going to go to MNSSHP on Halloween, which should be fun (and packed).

My bad it must of been the youngest daughter or grandaughter. It was a relative of his but she talked in detail about his life.

Oh I'd love to see your DS4 dressed up. My DBF is a sad little man :rolleyes1 who thinks handy manny is one of the best shows on television.....
He loves the hammer too....
:rotfl2:
:lmao:

Sigh.....

He does watch House and Dexter too to make him all rounded....literally

DH does not allow me to post pictures of our kids or his name (since I stupidly used our real last name for my username and his first name is very unique). If he ever changes his mind, I will gladly post them. I like Handy Manny too, so I am there with your DBF. Pat (the hammer) is a riot, so who wouldn't love him. Phineas and Ferb is my favorite Disney cartoon, tv show though.

I've never seen Dexter, but I love House. I used to work for a Doctor who is similar to House. Sometimes I think of his crazy self when I watch it.

I'm just sitting here with my Sunny cat, she's a mess between her banged up eye, her wheezing and the fact that she fell in her food while eating tonight.

The doggie I babysit is here for a while as her mom is out of town for bus. So Yay I dont have to get up early the rest of the week.

No worries at all. I was going to say 'if you don't mind' but was posting on the run

I do understand his reservations...so as I say no worries at all. Hope your DS has fun :thumbsup2

I reside in the doghouse on this topic because I'm yet to watch a Handy Manny episode...but I will....one day :rotfl2:

I would not mind, and there is no harm in asking. It would be nice to show off my beautiful kids like others do, but we always say that we both have to be on board when it comes to them. He is not okay with it.

The funny thing is I just googled him name and got a ton of hits, but when I googled mine (none of them are me). He does have a more unique name than I do (Kimberly), but he obviously puts more info on the Internet than I do.

DS makes me watch Handy Manny or I would not voluntarily watch it either. I do like what I see though. Disney cartoons are a league above the competitors (no surprise).

I'm having problems connecting to the Dis and staying connected. Anyone else having the same issues?? :confused3

Yes. It always disconnects me after some time. When I try to log back in, it just gives me a perpetual blank white page. I have found that googling DISboards and clicking a link takes me out of what I call the "white hole."

I am retiring from the night shift as of tonight (or should I say this morning, since it is 3:51am). No matter how long it takes me to fall alseep, I will lay here without the computer. Last week, the latest I went to bed when the computer was off was 2:30am, so the computer does keep me from getting more sleep. If you see me on past midnight my time, please tell me to go to sleep. Thanks in advance for the help.

Since I am hoping to be asleep while most of you are awake, we will not likely chat in real time as much anymore. I will miss my late night companions (not more than I miss sleeping, though). ;) Good night and take care.
