It's almost time for my cruise and I am scared..

Unless of course the ship is rocking so hard you have to hold on to the handrails just to keep from falling down.

That happened one time on our cruise except that it was as a result of the wine pairing at Remy  Although I blamed it on the very tiny high heels I was wearing. That's still my official position.

Still, after 10 cruises, I only recall the odd time or two that the ship was really rocking and only for short periods of time.

Unless of course the ship is rocking so hard you have to hold on to the handrails just to keep from falling down. It was like that when we skirted hurricane Joaquin in October 2015. Luckily, sailing through seas that rough is a very rare occurrence.

I get what you're saying (I was on RCCL's Brilliance last summer and around 2am we hit one of those infamous pop-up Med storms that was just below tropical storm level on the Beaufort scale and we were ROCKING which *I* loved!), but just as a note, it's always recommended to use the handrails on the stairs just in case of something rogue. Like how on a plane they request that you keep your belt fastened whenever you're in your seat.

The ship is so huge you often forget you're on one unless you're looking outside. It's more like being in a hotel. We've occasionally left port and until I go on deck I didn't realize we were even moving.

With all due respect, this just isn't true for some people with severe sensitivity to motion. It's definitely note true for me. I can feel the movement of the ship bobbing when it's just floating at anchor in port. The minute it begins to move I REALLY feel it. But that being said, the patch was PERFECT for me. I felt the motion but it didn't bother me. Bring a number of different options: sea bands, patch, pills, ginger gum. I'd start by wearing the patch and the sea bands. If those don't work, REMOVE the patch and start the pills and chew the ginger gum. You should be fine with that much proactive anti-nausea stuff.

I've just returned from my first Disney cruise (had a fabulous time) with my sister and niece. It was my niece's 3rd cruise and she's even considering working on a cruise ship. However on her first cruise, she was petrified. It was shortly after the Carnival ship out of Galveston lost power and had to be towed in. Then to get ready for the cruise, she watched a Discovery channel program on the Costa Concordia. And Titanic was one of her favorite movies. I think she was 15 at the time. To add to the problem, it was March and we had some kind of weather front follow us from Galveston down to Cozumel and it rained for 4 days. On the last sea day, we took the behind the scenes tour (we were on Royal Caribbean). All of her concerns went away when she saw all the safety systems, the backups to those systems, the guy on bridge watching for hazards and everything else going on behind the scenes to kept the ship going and safe. She had a great time after that. Unfortunately it was noon on the last day. Don't let this be you. I wish that her mother and I had been able to identify what the problem was earlier. It would have made everyone's cruise more fun, but you know teenagers - getting them to tell you what's bothering them isn't always easy.
