I just heard it will close from June '04 to March '05. What could they possibly doing that could need that much time of refurbishment?

My understanding is that it is a full rehab. Complete new sound system and soundtrack, rehab and replace animation. Add and update scenes. Possibly even replace/rehab the ride system tracks and drive motors/belts.

They are, as Chuck S said, doing a full refurbishment. Which means pretty much gutting the place, redoing the mechanics, rebuilding/rehabbing all the dolls and props, installing new sound and light systems, flushing the whole waterway and cleaning and refurbishing those mechanics, refinishing the facade, cleaning and refurbishing the boats, doing some new landscaping work, a full clean and clear, and even adding a few new things. It's an extensive rehab, and I personally would rather they take the time to do it right than to just patch up a few things at a time over the next few years.

They are also having major structural problems with the roof, which will also be repaired.

Anyone know what date in June????
I will really be sad :sad2: :sad1:  if I won't be able to ride it when we go.

"it's a small world"will be closed for refurbishment Monday, June 7, 2004 through Friday, March 18, 2005 reopening Saturday, March 19, 2005.

This ride has been crying for a rehab for years.
IaSW lovers will just have a reason to return later. ;)

Whew.....at least we will get to go on it!!
We arrive June 4th.....looks like we need to make sure we get there before Monday.

It's A Small World will be shut for a long period of time in order to flush out Chuckie.

The little scamp got in there and so far Disney are happy to report that only five people have disappeared...

Heh heh heh.

When I took my kids to DW 3/02, my mother in law talked constantly to them about IsSW and how wonderful it was. I think she would ride it 10-12 times each visit. I don't know whether or not she made them tired of hearing about it , but when they went on it, they appeared bored stiff! My husband wasn't upset about that as the song always drove him nuts!

I do think it is time for an upgrade!

Excellent news!

I hope it's another case of the "River Country"!!

Closed for nine months, eh? What I heard was the cute Mexican marinette hooked up with the hot surfer dude...Come March 2005 we could see a new singing Mexican surfer dude in the show...:o

March 19th, 2005 is not acceptable! It must be done by the first of March 2005! Will you please pass that along to the higher ups!

We have rescheduled our Dec '04 trip to early March '05 and we are bringing a number of people who have never been on a vacation no doubt Disney World and one must have at least a chance to see Small World so you can decide if you love or hate it!

BTW I love it! But when we went this March so much of it was not working properly. My little unicycle guy was stuck and many of the dolls need to be cleaned up and redressed.

I wonder what the coin value will be when they sweep out all the coins people have thrown into the water? What will they do with this money? Does it go back into Disney or to a charity?

While I think it is great that they are putting time and money into rehabbing things- i am concerned about the impact of shutting it down thru the busy summer season...that ride has to have a pretty high capacity--What will happen to the thousands of people NOT riding IASW now? I suspect all of Fantasyland is about to get even more crowded with fastpasses disappearing even earlier than ever for Peter Pan and Pooh and Mickey's Philharmagic...EMH will be key to getting much done in Fantasyland without A LOT of waiting.

Just one man's guess.

Won't Stitch's adventure be opening soon? While not "in" Fantasyland, it may help draw some of the crowd from the area. I hope they'll have Timekeeper and CoP open during the IASW rehab.

I've got it! I have a solution!

They should leave the ride open so that people inside can experience the joys of a roof falling on their heads! ;)

Seriously though, I'm sure that Disney has already considered this and is concerned about it - repeat visits are, after all, money to them. Possibly the structure has taken a turn for the worse recently?
