It's a New Year for a New You Super Goofs team thread

Mike, the "real feel" here is effing cold.....:cold: Just ask me in all my cold weather gear spending the last 20 minutes thawing out water for the cows.....

Hey all, finally getting a chance to get on here...love reading all the race reports...

Maura, thanks so much for chatting w/me on the bus ride, it really helped keep my nerves under control.

Suzanne, THANK YOU for staying with me 'til the start, I get so worked up, but having someone I "know" really made a difference (instead of feeling all alone amidst thousands of people!) I did look for you Sunday night, but you were waaayyyy across the room and I couldnt get your attention (cute outfit!)

I finished, but not in the acceptable time, so I dont have an "official" time, but my Garmy says I finished in 3:44:21. I know that's pretty slow compared to everyone here, but it was TWELVE minutes faster than my last half, and I am just thrilled to have crossed the finish line! Those who have been around know I am prone to terrible blisters, this time I used a different brand shoe and different socks, and although I did get some small blisters, they were NOTHING like my last try (when I stopped to have them taped and the medic wouldnt let me back out) I did carry my own blister kit, and lost almost 5 minutes taping them myself, but I was NOT letting a medic near my feet!

Still working on my race schedule, there are a lot of races I'd like to do, but I got my termination date at work (plant moving to Michigan) so I have to be careful with $$ until I can find another position.

Angie- That so sucks. Fingers and toes crossed for you. I am extremely anxious about the state of our economy. One of the reasons we did not go to Disney this year was I was so afraid to spend that extra money.
There was an emergency meeting held at work this afternoon for the higher ups. Not a good time to be working for the state.

:woohoo: its 15 degrees ABOVE zero!

:beach: still seems like a good place to be right now...

But, I believe its too cold to ride outside though, so I did 90 min in a spin class...which looked like this :crowded: with all the new years resolvers in there...but good on them, hope they stick it out.

Hope all is great with everyone...except Bin Laden of course.

Mike: I hear ya! I haven't run outside since NYE. I miss it. Being outside makes time go so much faster. I was stuck at the gym too.....with the New Year ressolution people. Not many of them stick it out, most are gone by middle of February. A few hang around, but not many. Right now it's hard as heck to get a decent TM or elliptical.

I have been at it working out. Actually ran 28 miles last week!

Beth

Hi Goofs!

I ran 2 miles today. And I decided that I need to visit the podiatrist before I run again. The three outer toes on my right foot get "pinched" when I put weight on them. I am not sure what is goin on but I think I will get a Doctors opinion before I risk them anymore.

Angie - Way to go for finishing the half!!! I am so proud of you for sticking with it even through blisters and pain. Sorry to hear about your job.

Now that I have heard about all your weather, I am going to slink off without complaining that its relatively cold here too.

Mike - excellent time for a rest day. Enjoy it.

Cecilia

Hi Super Goofs!

I feel for all of you in the colder climates. The temp got down to 15 degrees here the other night. I can't imagine facing colder than that day after day. :cold:

I went to WDW for marathon weekend but I didn't participate in any of the events. My knee was quite sore and I decided the night before the half that I would just cheer for everyone. I had a total blast rooting for all the WISHers and other runners/walkers. I'm so proud of everyone! :thumbsup2

Angie - congrats on finishing the half! :woohoo: So you don't have an "official" time. You got the bling! That's what counts! :thumbsup2 Sorry about your job. I was in a similar situation several years ago. My division of the company moved 8 hours away. :sad2: Sending you lots of pixie dust to help you in your efforts of finding a new position soon.

Mike - good luck with the training. I can't imagine training for an Ironman. :worship:

I've officially signed up for the Goofy in 2010. What have I done? I can't even walk/run now due to my knee. I have an appt. with an orthopaedic surgeon on Thursday to discuss options. He's a runner and from what I've heard, will try to do everything possible before recommending surgery. Hopefully, a little physical therapy and/or some drugs will do the trick. Ugh!

Good Sunday morning everyone!!

I have not been outside lately either. We have been in the minus numbers (yesterday too). I had to boost my car to start it but all is well here now. It is snowing currently and we are due for 6-10" throughout the day of very light puffy stuff. It is sooooo cold, there can't possibly any moisture to the stuff!! Anyway, with the snow, comes warmer temps. It should be a balmy 20 degrees today. I am going to ski for some miles this morning and then pick up the rest on the TM this afternoon. The snow is supposed to pick up in intensity as the day goes so staying out skiing all day is a no go. It takes a lot of loops on my trails to equal 9 miles!

Angie, I am sooooo excited for you getting your medal this year!!! I am also very thankful to Suzanne for taking my place with you at the start this year. I remember your face so vividly!! Yay on your time too and no blisters, hallelujah!!!!!!!!! ::yes::

Susie, take care of that knee. You have to be better for CMM!!! I am getting really excited with the list forming of attendees!

Mike, :teeth: Keep up the great work on that IM training! I too am in awe of you even thinking about it. Okay, well I have thought about it too, but that's as far as it went!! :rotfl:

Cecilia, ouch on the toes! That sounds painful. I hope it is nothing serious!!

Joanne, :wave2: I hope your training is coming along. Susie, Cecelia and I are going to CMM.....:hyper:

I hope everyone is warm and toasty today. I plan to stay that way. Nursing a cold and some yuck that Mike and I both got after eating super atomic hot wings...:scared: We were both down and out yesterday. I kept telling him I wished I had too much to drink, I would have felt better!!! :sad2: Sad but true. Anyway, stay strong Goofs and everyone have a great day!!

Lisa, Steve is doing his first full at CMM too! You'll both do well! I can't wait to cheer you guys on after I finish the half. Of course, by that time, you'll almost be done. ;)

I got my 7 miles in today. I was quite happy. I'm still on track to be ready for the Princess Half.

I got in over 4 today. I'll have to check my ipod for a better number, but even that won't be right. I switched treadmills and then switched programs on the treadmill but somewhere in there I turned of the nike+ program and then restarted after about 1/4-1/2 miles, I don't know how much extra I went. I'll come back later with more details.

50 minutes on the elliptical, 10 on the track yesterday.

Skipped my trainer (I'll make that up today).

2000 yards on tap in the pool in 30 minutes...10 degrees outside

on the home front, my hard drive decided to not be recognized...so after spending $2000 to get data back last year (BACK UP YOUR DATA FOLKS!!!!!) I had to go pull a hard drive from another computer, wipe it clean, install the operating system, go through all the updates, download and learn how to use some utilities and managed so far to pull my financial data off the bad drive. (I spent a lot of time last night like this ( :badpc: ). I'm likely taking a day off of work to go buy a larger hard drive, and hopefully get ALL the data off the currently bad one, and THEN see if I can finish breaking it to get a warranty replacement. :faint:

I thought computers were going to make like easier!

sorry this is all about me...I'll catch up with the group later today...

Good morning Goofs and happy MLK day!!

I got in 3.42 miles skiing yesterday. It was a long slow and painful process. I was totally exhausted afterward and took an hour long nap!! We are currently under 12" of fresh powder. Not great for XC but supreme downhill snow.....Mike....:goodvibes

All RnR VA Beach participants....This is a PSA from the DR boards: There is a NEW HOTEL opening on VA Beach, the Hampton Inn North at 1005 Atlantic Ave. I snagged a king room last night for $179 a night. Cheap on the beach room. They are going fast though so book your room quickly!! :beach:

Also, anyone doing CMM, there is a thread started here and everyone is staying at the Hampton Inn off Donelson Pike. There are 14 WISHers right now officially on the roster. :hyper:

Hmm, I think that is all I had to say this morning (believe it or not). I am headed to the gym today with DD14 and one of her friends to get them going on strength programs. Not much of a workout for me. Very intermittent amongst the questions but I will get some in. I am shooting for 5 miles today I just may have to run really really fast to get them in, lol, me....fast...yeah right...:lmao:

Have a super Goofy day everyone!!!

question...
at the race, there were several people around me who's watches/garmins/something?? would beep to let them know when it was time to run or walk...my garmin does not have interval features, does anyone know of a watch or something that does this?

TIA

also, I have some Southwest credits to use up before August, and am looking for a fun yet somewhat easy Half to sign up for, any ideas for me?

Angie, Come to CMM!!!!! Nashville is not hugely difficult and there are lots of WISHers going!!!!! Southwest is one of the cheaper flights into BNA!

My Garmin 205 has the interval feature. AmyBeth was wearing a regular watch during the Hollis race that was keeping mile intervals for her too. I am not sure what she was wearing. I think you can pick up the 205s fairly cheap since everyone wants the 405 now!!!

Angie, you know that anyone can use the southwest credits you have, right?

they just need your reservation code, and they can cut you a check for the credit...my brothers and I do this all the time!

I love SWA!

Lisa Love to hear about fresh powder...Alta has had 253" so far this season!

Mike

Angie- I believe you can do this with the 305 as well. I think you have to program it on the computer and link it to your Garmin. I have seen people do this but it is way to complicated for me!

Lisa- Goofy 40% full (hint, hint, hint)

Joanne, I am currently waiting to see if DD14 made the U16 or the U19 field hockey team. If she made U16, Goofy may be a possibility especially with sharing a room. If she makes U19, we have games at UNH, UConn, Providence College, UMass and Sacred Heart. It is just too much on top of the cost for the travel team itself. The travel team costs more than Goofy registration!!!!

I am still holding hope. We should hear by tomorrow which team she made and then I have to get things in order for my presentation to DH. We have Nashville and VA Beach this year which are both fairly pricey vacations.....:confused3

I was thinking about surprising the gang with a trip to Disney over Spring break. Have you seen the airfare- Yikes! Not to long ago one way was $79 with Southwest direct. It's now over $200! I need to rethink my grand plans for the kids.

I hear you Joanne, for the 4 of us to fly Southwest to Nashville April break for us (week of the 20th) it is over $1600. Now add food, hotel, race, etcetera and it gets really pricey really fast. DH and I are thinking of taking the train to Virginia Beach. It is just $400 for the 2 of us. Cheaper than air by a long shot. We are considering driving to Nashville to save some $$, I am just not sure I want that headache too.

Keep trying the airfare and search sites like Sidestep.com and Kayak.com so they run all the airfare at the same time and give you the best deal. Of course, I did this last night and found Northwest Manchester to Nashville for $908 for the 4 of us and when I went to the site it was "this fare no longer is available".....:furious:

In case you all miss the team update thread. Dave (windwalker) has put it out to the moderators on whether we can continue our team threads or not. He is bowing out. I think it was just too much for him with all the ruckus it caused. I can't say as I blame him any I just hate to see him step down. I, personally, think he did the most wonderful job and put so much heart into the whole challenge, it was difficult not to follow suit. Stay tuned to whether we continue as a team or we have to find another way to communicate amongst ourselves!!! :coffee:
