It's a New Year for a New You Super Goofs team thread

Hi goofs,

I did my first post-race run today. An easy 3.1 miler. Gotta keep moving til I plan what's next.

Hey UP Disney Is it as nasty cold in da Yoop as it is in th LP here?

Maura

Rode for 1.5 hours today, ran a combo on the treadmill and elipitical for 3 something miles then 1/2 hour with trainer. I impressed him with my inner thigh strength- I guess all that horseback riding is paying off!
I bought a big ball to work on core and abdominal stuff at home in my leisure (!) time.

Hello everyone,

I am happy to see that everyone else seems to be getting their exercise in.

A lot on my mind health-wise since the new year and I am having minor surgery tomorrow. Pray that this is all about nothing. When this is behind me hopefully I can start thinking about exercise/running again.

Yes, it is cold here in the LP of Mich. The actual temp this morning was -8. The wind chills tonight are supposed to be -20.

Have a good week everyone. :thumbsup2

I'm still in Lansing for work. I'm headed home tomorrow after work. However, I did talk to my DH about an hour ago and it sounds like it is about the same up there. It has been a strange winter and the weather here has been the same or worse than at my house in da UP. I'm from Iron Mountain which is the banana belt (warmer than the rest of da UP) so we don't get as much as the rest of the UP but we do get more than Lansing most winters. There was no snow in da UP on Saturday when it was a blizzard here in Lansing.

I ran my 40 minutes today. I was running 1.1 miles in 16 minutes so I'm happy with my time. I had to switch my rest day until tomorrow as I'll be driving home and won't have time for exercise. I made a serious mistake by eating dinner before my run. I was really hungry so ate and then waited more than an hour. I'll not make that mistake again.

Hello Goofs...decided it was time to get back into the swing of things, walked 8 miles today with a friend from work in 2 hrs 21 mins. Not a great time but a great distance. Felt good after so that was a bonus.

Am signing up for 3 5K's tomorrow...Universal 5K on 1/31, ESPN Weekend 5K on 2/28 and Princess 5K on 3/7. Was on the fence for the Princess 1/2 but decided against it when they announced its the same course as the 1/2 I just did. Also, I can do all 3 5K's for the same price as the Princess 1/2.

Have a great day everyone, stay warm!!

Woo Hoo first to post this morning! Twice in a row?
Have to work today but I am going to a spin/core class this evening- very exciting!

Yep, you beat me Joanne. Trying to catch up from yesterday and work too. Serves me right!!

So....Mike....I give you a freebie and you let Joanne beat you....whassup wit dat???? :lmao:

Lynne: Best of luck today...:wizard:

Sounds like everyone is back on the exercise train. Glad to hear training is going well!

I got in my 10 miles that I missed on Sunday yesterday. I ended up on the elliptical as all the TMs were full. I hate resolution season...it just cramps in on my gym time!! Actually it was nice to see the place full on a Wednesday mid-morning! It is too cold to do most anything outside right now. We are in the minus numbers waking up and getting into the teens yesterday, the single digits today and possibly breaking 0 for a high tomorrow. The weekend looks a little better though. I think we have a snowmobile trip planned with the entire family on Saturday. Fun times. DH and I usually bring up the rear so we can play in the fields and not leave people behind. Today I am up for my walk DVD inside and some abs. Tomorrow will be the same or the gym, undecided yet. I wish I could go out and ski but I already frostbit my chin a little last weekend and I don't want to push my luck.

Have a great day everyone!!

Hey now...I'd have been first in today, but the pool doesn't open until 6:30 for adult lap, so I'm going in 30 minutes later...most of which was spent trying to convince myself to get out of bed...its COLD in my room (furthest from the furnace).

Anyway, I've got 45 min run, 45 min swim on tap today.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to put another log in my wood burning stove so that my monitor doesn't freeze like this!

Have a great, goofy day...stay warm!

mike

Mike, we put in an outside wood boiler about 6 years ago and I have to say it is the BEST thing we ever did. We used to try and keep the house warm on wood fires alone and it just never worked. The ends of the house (where the bedrooms are) were always cold. Now, the heat comes in through HWBB and is even temps throughout the house. We fill the stove in the morning and at night and it works seamlessly. My SIL has a bigger boiler and has radiant floor heating hooked up to hers. Of course, my DH hauls wood for a living so firewood is not hard to come by here and there.....:goodvibes

Good morning from equally cold Michigan where my car thermometer managed to get up to 0 by the time I got to work. Early/short day today, since I have to go home mid-morning and relieve my DH as we wait for someone to come and fix the furnace. Yep, on the coldest day of winter so far, the ceramic igniter appears to have died.

So no workout this am for me. Will have to use a little oil-filled raiator to keep one room in the house tolerable--willl use the dog, too! So it's a one-dog night (or day) for us today!

Maura:Is it the ignitor or the flame sensor? Does the gas flow, and then shut off, and you hear clicking? Or do the flames come on for about 5-6 seconds and then shut off?

If its the sensor (flames come on briefly and shut down), you can try LIGHTLY sanding what looks like a probe that extends into the flames and it should work.

If its the ignitor (and this should only be tried in case of EMERGENCY), you should be able to manually light it...if you have a long handled lighter, you will need to hold the lighter in the path of the gas when it comes on.

You may also have a glow type starter, rather than a spark type starter. If that is the case, you'd want to LIGHTLY sand the glow starter to see if that works.

You will have to remove the upper panel of your furnace to check this...most have two, one for burner access, one for blower access. The blower is usually the lower panel, and has a pressure switch that prevents the blower from running when the panel is off.

Good luck!

Lisa:I'd love to have a wood boiler, but its against code in the municipality...just like most other things I'd like to do! I love boiler based heat, it is VERY even. BTW, what is HWBB?

Mike

Hot water baseboard.

Maura, maybe you should hire Mike to fix it!!! ;)

Headslap...of course its Hot Water base Board...jeez, I'm thick this morning!

I'm no expert, but I have picked up a few things by tinkering!

I found a terrific website for those who are handy, or want to be.

It can be found at:

www.applianceguru.com

Costs $5.00 (one time only) to register and post your appliance questions.

I have saved literally HUNDREDS of dollars on service calls by fixing my washer, dryer, dishwasher and furnace by posting questions on this site, and following their advice.

Was on the fence for the Princess 1/2 but decided against it when they announced its the same course as the 1/2 I just did.
I didn't realize that. Thanks for sharing. Now I have no need to worry that I'm missing out on something by not doing this race! (Although I would love to have a tiara medal someday...) I'm glad they changed it. How could they even consider hosting a "Princess" Half that didn't go through the castle?

Hi Goofs!

Brrrr!!! I am glad to hear that all my northern friends are keeping warm. I am just SO happy that I don't have to try to train this week. I can stay in and stay warm!!

My legs are still feeling a little tired today so I decided to wait until Saturday for my first run. Every other year, I have flown home from WDW the Monday after the marathon. This year I bummed a ride home in a friends car. I have to say that an 8 hour drive is MUCH harder on your legs. I felt worse Tuesday than I ever have after a race. So I will remember that when I start making all my plans for future races.

My big sister is considering running Goofy in 2010 to celebrate her 50th birthday. She asked me to run the full with her. So it looks like my "never again" lasted less than a day this year! However, I am not going to do Goofy next year. I will relax with "just" the full. :lmao:

Funny thing is that I was really burnt out going into this past weekend. I really didn't care about running or training at all. But now I am getting excited about running again and I am really looking forward to the Country Music Half Marathon. I might even switch and do the full....nah. But I will definately be out there for Lisa!

Cecilia

Ugh. I thought I was ready to run again, but my legs are still protesting the half marathon. 1 mile in 14:35. Then I tried to row. The machine had a cute video game but it was over in 4 minutes. Boy am I glad miles and minutes aren't counting right now!

Good morning, super quickie post from me. It is -23 here this morning and I have more to do than my usual keeping things running.

I did 6 miles last night, inside due to the temps but they are 6 more for the books nonetheless. Time to start upping my miles so I am ready for marathon training soon....::yes::

Keep up the great work everyone. Dave is home now so we should be getting some team updates on where we go from here to just stay as our merry band of misfits or back to tracking for another year. I will keep you all updates as I get any news.

Take care everyone and can someone send me some heat????? :beach:

TGIF.....and, no, the 'F' doesn't stand for FRIGID...which is what it is here. I guess -10 isn't as bad as Lisa's -23, but it's cold anyway.

Did a 15 minute warmup on the stepper and 40 minutes of weights today. Gotta keep working on my hip/leg strength if I want to keep running pain-free (knock wood)

This weekend I have to plan some races for the year. Already I know that if I am not "in training", I will ease off. So I better figure it out.

Have a great weekend, all.

Angie Hope you made it back okay, and it was great to see you, especially on the bus before the half. It kept me from getting so nervous!

Suzanne Did your race go well? I like your new pic--and this time I won't be confused over whether it was your or your daughter!

Cecilia Impressive times all around for you, by the way. Maybe I'll see you in the full next year (I've begun to kick it around)

Kim Hope you get your legs back soon!

Maura

is cold, and I haven't had a full rest day in the last 12.

So, I skipped the optional swim.

I did the one I skipped yesterday morning late last night.

2400 yards in about 50 minutes...swimming is HARD!

800 yard warmup
8 reps of 150 each w/20 seconds rest between each rep.
400 yard pull buoy cool down.

but then I was up until 12:30, so I slept in.

We are -19, but the "real feel" is -17, so we've got that going for us...which is nice.
