What wonderful news! I admit it -- I was a bit worried for your sake when you first mentioned the "unclaimed property" thing, until you explained you had in fact already discerned its worth. A dear friend sent us a clipping from the news in Virginia (where we lived 11 yrs ago). Our name was one of hundreds who apparently had "unclaimed property". So dh excitedly fills out the form and mails it, and then waited eagerly to hear back from them. We just received a return letter this week explaining that the long-lost "property" consisted of a last bit of interest from a since-closed account. Value of property: 25 cents.
Yup. DH spent 37 cents in order to retrieve 25. Sad, ain't it!
