It's A Bird,It's A Plane ...

Disney wasting huge volumes of money for a few to joy ride to a couple parks while Epcot sits there with Future World in a sad sad bulldozer worthy state, World Showcase needing some new life to the same old same old, Tomorrowland in need of a bulldozer, yeah for SWL how about updating all the DHS shows .............. :sad2:
I prefer to look at this as a glass half full...Disney providing a much needed infrastructure improvement before some of these projects are completed. For at least the first year, if not 2, SWL will be a MASSIVE draw and HS needs the additional transportation and lodging options to get people in and out more efficiently. As someone who experienced the crush of people at SWW multiple times, I welcome this addition. Also, there has already been mention of improvements to be made at Epcot, but again, additional infrastructure will be necessary to get people in and out once those improvements start drawing more.

What additional lodging? I have to say, this is one of Disney's most bizarre and not well thought out ideas in a while.

I like it but my concern is how high will it be going? These areas it's connecting have trees covering them. Will it be clearing paths between them so in an evacuation situation a cherry picker can reach it? If not how does one reach the cabin when it's above the trees

If it removes trees will it be showing sitelines to the backstage areas?

Will it be about the same height if the monorail and just run parallel to existing roadways ?

I must be in the minority i think it's a cool alternative to the busses. Maybe next trip I will try Caribbean Beach for a change (the one resort I have never had an interest in staying in!)

So much for the nice peaceful stroll from BC to the IG, not with this monstrosity hanging overhead

It's going to go over the epcot resorts? And end where? Not international gateway, I hope. That would suck & make that entry point a nightmare.

It would either have to go over the Epcot resorts or World Showcase. Both of those options would be a massive eyesore.

CS has no connection to the gondola.
I was referring to @Ichuck's comment about needing more transportation options because of increased in lodging. More rooms, means more people. More people means more cars on the roads. With a new transportation option some might opt out of driving their car.
Also we still don't know if CBR will be converted to DVC somehow, which will get more people into that resort

I agree that I am a little worried that it might be an eyesore but I am not sure how much busier it will make International Gateway. From what I have read, this will only transport 10 guests at a time. Even if one comes in every five minutes that would be 120 people per hour. I don't think it would add that many additional people to International Gateway because it will still be faster to take the buses.

Interesting concept but I'm in the party that would agree they need to do some maintenance within at least Epcot as a higher priority. The empty buildings at Epcot, Ellens Energy & room near it, old Captain EO building where Pixar videos are playing, Innoventions...I'd like some rides or other activities going over a gondola system.

And as far as the gondola system..I'd only use it to go between HS and Epcot. So wondering on how they'll look, where the drop off points will be, and how quick it'll be. I'm assuming the Epcot end point will be at International Gateway, which is fine as it's usually always empty, might as well offload some more people there. As far as Hollywood studios end point I'd guess that they'll have the offload point somewhere between the boat docks and behind Beauty and the Beast stage show, either with a new smaller entrance or a walkway leading to the main gate.

As far as those not liking the idea of a gondola unloading and people going to the International Gateway, it's not like this is going to jam pack the IG entrance. Other than actually seeing the gondolas, as far as the people, you probably won't even notice a difference. It's 10 people per gondola and it's not like the gondolas are going to be a steady stream of cars like a monorail, so you'll have 10 people getting off, then a few minutes later 10 more people. It's not going to create huge lines at the IG which is already pretty much empty all day to begin with

That's horrible! ONe of reasons we love staying at BWI is the ease of IG. They'll have to expand the area to accommodate all the people. So much for relaxing afternoon strolls into Epcot. Seriously makes me sad & upset.

Highly doubt any expansion is in the works or will be needed, they already have plenty of metal detectors. Any relaxing strolls into Epcot won't be tarnished. It'll simply be a few extra people

10 people?? Where did you get that number? These are supposed to be high capacity gondolas. Holding that few guests ata time is pointless. .

If it drops off at the IG that's great. Much of what I enjoy at Epcot is in world showcase. If a dinner reservation exist over there I don't need to lie to a security guard and say I wanna check out the boardwalk to park my car. Now I can keep it at CBR, my hotel of choice, and gondola over

Security will be interesting though. Metal detectors and bag check will most certainly be at the loading stations but will there be some separating wall at the IG to keep those walking from BWI and YC/BC from co-mingleing with gondola peeps. Or will additional screening be moved, but where. You got a tight area there with the IG gate and boat launch

The article said 10

But who knows how many gondolas per cable is allowed

I think 10 keeps loading times down so there isn't a backlog of gondolas waiting to unload

That is how many people the cars are rumored to hold.

I agree about EPCOT but I thought the long rumored refurb of that park was in the works, perhaps to be announced at D23.

I hope this is the case - I agree with PP in that Epcot needs a major overhaul. All other parks are getting new exciting things, and Epcot nothing. Although I'll admit, I've never been a huge fan of Epcot to begin with.

Acording to the WDWinfo article "Little else is known about the gondolas, but it was reported that each cab will be able transport 10 guests at a time between the resorts and parks."

And really if it's a gondola there has to be a weight limit and 10 people seems about right. They can't have a gondola going that has 30-40 people. The size of it and infrastructure would be massive. Then the more people you have per gondola the longer it'll take to load and unload. And I'm imagining that when one gondola is loading/unloading, all other gondolas will be holding until clear and then move on. 10 people seems like a good number so it doesn't seem like it would be too long of a hold.
