"Pass The Dutchie" by Musical Youth

"I say
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side
It's a gonna burn, give me music make me jump and prance
It a go done, give me the music make me rock in the dance..."

It was a cool and lovely breezy afternoon
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
You could feel it 'cause it was the month of June
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
So I left my gate and went out for a walk
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)
As I pass the dreadlocks' camp I heard them say
(How does it feel when you've got no food ?)

Musical Youth!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

In the movie "The Wedding Singer", the weird guy is seen singing this song to himself. One of my favorite parts of the movie. :rotfl2:

I graduated from H.S. in '84--that movie's like my bible! The only thing that's missing is Dexy's Midnight Runners! :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

You know, it could be - I must have tripped across the English-translated lyrics! :teeth:

I always wondered what they were really saying. :teeth: Being the child of the 80's that I am, I love the Wedding singer. When I saw your post, that was the first thing I thought of.

I wondered what they were saying too - I never really got past "Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side" - the worldwide web is a beautiful place to find out what they're REALLY saying. :teeth:

Yep, Musical Youth were a UK band. The song was actually a remake. They replaced the word "kutchie" which has marijuana connotations and replaced it with "Dutchie" which is a Jamaican (I think) word for cooking pot. So I guess it went from pass the pot, to pass the casserole pot.....

I am full of useless information.

But you are most welcome on any of my threads - I live for useless information. :cloud9:

The Wedding Singer is one of my all-time favorite movies!! It is mine and DH's movie. It is our dating/marriage story. No kidding! I'm Julia and he's Robbie. Our two best friends acted exactly the same way as their best friends. I was engaged to a jerk like Glen when we met. DH's ex-wife is Linda. It is so funny!

That song came on one of my many K-Tel albums that I had as a kid!
