"Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" by Cher

"I was born in the wagon of a travelin' show
My mama used to dance for the money they'd throw
Papa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of doctor good :drinking1

Gypsies, tramps and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call us, gypsies, tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down..."

This one is SOOOOO easy to get stuck in your head. I bet you're hearing it all night long. :p

OMG that was one of my favorites. I think I was in 8th grade that year and was really into buying RECORDS..... (my kids laugh at me, I still lapse into that old talk when I mean CD's LOL)

Yes! I can still picture the label on the 45. I believe it was purple and orange. I still have alot of old 45's, but this is one of the ones the evil girl across the street stole - even though she never admitted it. ;)

...picked up a boy just south of mobile
blah blah blah...filled him with a hot meal
I was 16 he was twenty one
Rode with us to Memphis, Papa would have shot him if he knew what he'd done!

Chorus...

I remember it, but not first hand. I remember her singing it later in her career as a tribute.

Man, I feel old....when we can remember it "first hand" that's when you know you are over the hill!!!

I prefer to think of it as standing atop the peak of the hill overlooking a life well-lived. ;)

My brother and I used to sing the chorus as "crabgrass, leaves and trees" instead of "gypsies, tramps and thieves"...... apparently at that young point in our lives we had never heard any of these words!!

Oh yeah!!! I was getting married for the first time that year....like the lady in that commercial says.."I'm not old, I've just lived a very long time!!"
Besides...age matters only in wine and cheese!!

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! :cool1:

I remember listening to it when I was young and now my kids like it when I play my Cher CD w/ it on there!

I grew up listening to the sounds of the 70's - yes I remember that song and in the 90's when I was old enough to bar hop - Kareoke Night baby - one of my signature songs.......

Gypsies tramps and thieves
we hear from the people in the town
they call us
Gypsies tramps and thieves
and everynight all the men would come around.......
and lay thier money down

That was in an X-Files episode!!! ("Post Modern Prometheus" in case you were wondering. ;))
