Itouch software update, Lost all my apps!!!

I updated the software on my Itouch today, and all my apps are gone now! I tried to do a restore and only a few came back and the ones that came back that had info in them for example a bill pay app, the info is gone!

has this happened to anyone else?

Did you back up your purchases? see if they are still available on your itunes account and then maybe sync it and add them again?

No I didn't back up all my purchases

but I did find out I can re-install apps and not be charged again. a box comes up that says something like you already purchased this, if you want to download again for free.
so now I have to remember all the apps I had on this thing!! I did some of them, but I know I am missing some.
most of them were free apps anyway, but I did have some that I paid for

Goto iTunes
Click on your account in the top left corner
Click purchase history
And that will list everything you have download for free or for money
Just Incase you can't remember all of your apps

ours did that over the holiday too! what a mess - we hd 2 of them..
bad news is you can't always recover all of the apps you had I think we lost close to 40 of them total on the fix apple had to help us with..
I didn't back up my purchase either.. in fact I have no idea how to do that part..

better part is my 1st laptop that we always used will not reconize either ipod now we have to use my son's new lap top in order to sync.. what a mess.
