items to be signed at guest services? discontinued??

Yes, this service was discontinued last August.

However, you may still get autographs at meet and greets. Photo mats work well. If you plan to do a pillowcase though, make sure you bring something sturdy to put under it and make signing easier.

You can still have things signed. Just bring them with you when you meet the characters. We were on the Dream in April and people had shirts, autograph books, pictures frames, pillow cases, etc for the characters to sign. It didn't seem to add to the wait time. We never had to wait very long for any character.

that is one of the ongoing problems with these boards (and maybe elsewhere...idk, I haven't looked): there is a plethora of outdated information floating around. It HAS been updated/corrected, but, unless someone reads an ENTIRE thread (and some are looooooooooooooooong) you can miss the update.
Not much can be done unless the stickies up front point out the new information. IDK, I haven't looked there either.
and, I'm guessing, many, if not most, people don't read the stickies

Maybe there could be code that if any post is more than, say 2 years old, the color of the display changes to, say orange to indicate that the info may be old.

We're going on our first cruise next month on the Dream and we're bringing photo mats (1 per child) and autograph books since you have to do it at meet-and-greets. I don't see a pillowcase being something we'd use

Speculation is that there were too many people taking advantage of it. I've read that the signatures were provided by the CMs backstage while on "break". Maybe just too much work and no break time for the entertainers.

I also heard that some were upset if the signatures weren't perfect on the pillow cases or frames. People were ordering expensive pillow cases from different places and there was now way for Disney to replace them.

The signatures were done by guest service cms and require extra training on their part to perform (thus why you drop them with GS). Entertainment could help when able but they have less down time. It was taking CMs so much time to get it all done that it had to be scrapped. The more time CMs were in the back doing signing the less time they had to be front and guest facing.

Well that's just absurd, IMO! With that type of material, you would think people would expect a few hiccups.

I would hope that they limit signatures to one item per person for those events. But I haven't seen whether they do or not.

Still, if you take 10 people who would have done the drop off, and put them in the line for Cinderella, it does make the line that much longer and that much slower. Its seldom a 'could you sign this', often turning into 'lets just get a picture' with the photo person hoping that you will purchase it once seen. To me it just clogs up the line for those who actually wish to do the meet and greet.
I have only lined up once and that was for Captain Jack. Enough said.....

Two items per person? That would really slow down the line. At least when it was done at Guest Services it was two items PER ROOM.

Maybe they should just schedule autograph sessions, like the do with the Captains and some entertainers they've had onboard? Only autographs, no posed pictures (but you could snap a picture while they are signing).
