Points are points.
Unless you are a post Jan 19 resale buyer or a Riviera resale buyer.
Points are points.
No. When someone throws out spurious thoughts that are not germane to the discussion in an attempt to deflect the conversation in another direction, they are "changing the narrative".Oh good grief! If someone disagrees on here it's "changing the narrative"?
No - I just don't think the change is the end of the world for my DVC. "Note: MY DVC - ymmv."
I completely agree with you. I'm fairly a new owner and not at SSR my only regret is I didn't do it years ago when family suggested to me. I would have bought direct cheaper than I bought resaleSSR owner hereWe have had luck at 7m out transferring into each resort we've tried - BUT are perfectly content to stay at SSR if that goes away - as we love it there as well. We have more than recouped our money we paid into DVC, didn't buy too many points, so not looking to sell - almost always book at the 11m mark and try to get 3 times every OTHER year (pushing 3 uses into a single AP and then taking an entire year off with no visits/AP). My annual dues are about $950/year for that - so I see it as $1900 (2 years) of dues giving me 3 trips to Disney ($633/trip). I still think it was a great investment regardless of if I'm "forced" to stay at my home resort.
To be clear - I "get" why people who may want to sell might be upset about this - but I just don't intend on selling and IF I do/did - I never expected to get more than what I originally paid - which is what most people have gotten and are upset they will no longer get. That's just my 2 cents - I totally understand that others want to read fine print/examine the rules/go over terms and legalities - I really do "get" that. It's just not my outlook on it.
At least this SSR resaler who routinely trades out books the undesirable 1bds.... oh, wait....

Yup only I had no SSR points and actually used my BCV points for that trip LOL!Oh my! Me too! LOL Use to be the two bedrooms but that was really a waste when it was just my mom and me.
Look at us...you over NYE and me right after in great resorts!
Disneyfan2kids, I understand you love SSR (I really enjoy our stays there too especially since my kids are 21 and 25 and we have DTD in our backyard for the evenings) but bottom line is we (you direct/me resale in 2009 and grandfathered in with direct) purchased our points for less money than BWVs were going for at the time and we use our less expensive points (see, didn't use cheaper) to trade into GFVs, Poly, etc. I actually never understand why someone that purchases GF, Poly, BLT use their points to trade to other less cheaper point night resorts when they spent a premium to own where they purchased, we did not. I always see my transfer at 7 months as a bonus and that I am certainly getting more bang for my buck staying at BLT (which I did two weeks ago) than someone else staying at BLT who paid direct BLT, Poly or GF. How can we not? We paid less per point.

Owners who rent their point comprise a very small percentage of owners as a whole. If people who currently rent out their points ceased to do so, they would still use their points. They will either use them for themselves, trade into RCI or the Disney Collection (if they can). None of those actions will create availability for other DVC members because every trade out results in a villa of equal value being removed from DVC inventory.
I believe that the current 7-month availability issue has been created by two things:
- the sale and resale of small contracts to owners who bought specifically to book studios at their home resorts (and don't trade out at 7 months)
- point-sucking bungalows/cabins at resorts where not enough large contracts were sold to support booking them 365 days a year.
Well then, you are a much better person than I. I used SSR for BLT, much to the dismay of many![]()
Yep, we took the old "buy where you want to stay" route and are now stuck at BCV, BWV, VWL and BLT.![]()

As a newer VGF owner, we have traded out to BCV, and plan to trade out to CCV or BRV next year, it's the nice thing about the DVC system that it currently has such flexibility to try out other resorts. As much as my family loves the Penguin Resort, it's always nice to see the other parts of Disney and try something new. That's why I truly don't understand why DVC management is installing these restrictions, the flexibility in the system across all the DVC properties is what makes it such a great system. I understand they probably hear from Direct Owners a lot about those "terrible" resale owners who didn't pay as much as they did (FYI, I paid for both direct and resale points at VGF, and the resale points were priced the same amount as the original owner paid). But, if it wasn't for resale, DVC would probably have to foreclose on a lot of contracts, that people couldn't afford.
That’s why you buy BLT and BWV points on the cheap.
I’m happy to stay at those two or use those to try out other resorts. My precious VGF points will always be used there.![]()
IMO there are realities of the all resorts esp the cheaper resorts, esp SSR, but I do not feel negatively about those who own there. When I say the SSR has been the single largest impact on the 7 month availability and has affect back to 11 month window for all resorts, that's because I believe it to be accurate, not because I think anyone did anything wrong in using it that way.An owner at SSR, using your points the way you do, celebrating resale buyers being restricted from competing at 7-months to book at another resort is a bit rich. I hate to break it to you, but direct or not, your points are the dirt cheap points that people complain about flooding the system.

at's the darn truth. I was thinking something more colorful, but I am trying to stay PC here.It really is something that should be studied: blind loyalty to Disney. I suffer from it to a lesser degree because I keep going and still own my points despite the rising costs. The pixie dust has definitely been wiped out of my eyes.
I find it funny that just because people don’t subscribe to the “sky is falling” program every time a change happens then it’s blind loyalty, drank the kook-aid, blah blah blah.
When the first resale change happened “well that’s the end of DVC/ horrible company/doesn’t care about its people/were second class citizens/etc/etc” many changes have happened since then (perks come and gone, prices gone up/fastpass plus) and every year the same thing happens. People complain and People go to Disney despite all the negative reactions about how THIS TIME it’s the end.
So no I don’t work myself into a frenzy. I use the time I have and the money I’ve earned to enjoy what my family and I like to do in our free time. That’s not blind loyalty. That’s knowing what I’ve paid for.
What is a greater study of human psychology is social media and how it will be the downfall of our society. This whole riviera restrictions is a great example of it. Everything in these new restrictions threads (except the one DVC paragraph restriction statement) is nothing more than opinion/speculation. Yet it somehow seems to be passed off as fact and people are convinced of the outcome for what has only come in to effect a few days ago. For all we know the price could double in another 10 years. It already has in the last 10.
