IT WAS LEGEND..(wait for it)..DARY!!!

So sorry everyone, I have had such a lack of time to update. I'm at the end of a very busy 3 weeks at work and was actually planning on updating tonight but I am currently sitting at the hospital waiting for a patient coming in on a transport flight! Bear with me, I hope to finish our AK day as soon as I can!

NPH... how cool! Loved that final four episode. Can't wait to hear who the other celebrity sighting is!popcorn::

Finally - I have a bit of time to update! :)
So...where were we???
....AK, Friday November 30th. We had just had a celebrity sighting of one of our faves - Neil Patrick Harris.

So..We headed away from Asia and decided it was time to eat some lunch. We didn't have a plan for where to eat in AK because we had really liked Tusker House in the past and it was no longer a TS spot. We had also tried Flame Tree and really did not like it so didn't want to go there again. Last trip we had eaten at the AK McDonald's!
We decided to try Pizzafari. This was one TS place where they were not very helpful with Bear's allergy issues. :confused3 I found a CM and asked to speak to the manager. She walked me over to a door to the kitchen area and basically walked me right into the kitchen then left me there to go find the manager. Other CMs were walking past me giving me funny looks. No one told me to get out of there. When the manager arrived, she was clearly upset that I was there in the kitchen. She seemed really flustered and sort of yelled at me for being back there. All I could tell her was that I was brought back there by one of her workers.
Back in the dining area, I flipped through their ingredient book searching for something for Bear but wasn't having much luck and she wasn't helping me. She seemed pretty put out by this whole process. She basically started encouraging my family to go elsewhere in the park to eat! Finally, I asked her if he could just have some of the chicken that they put onto their chicken caesar salads. She told me to go to the line and she would be waiting for me there and help enter the order and see that it was made properly. When I got to the line, she was no where to be found. :headache: I tried to tell the cashier CM what the manager and I had discussed and she had no clue how to enter that so I again had to wait for the manager to show up. I felt really bad about this because people behind me had to wait as well!
Finally we got the orders straightened out and got our food. We were actually pretty pleased with our meals here. Nemo had pizza with Dee and shared Bear's sides with his chicken (grapes and applesauce). Ralphie, Kay, and I all had the hot italian sandwich and chips. All three of us liked this. Kay also ordered a side of the breadsticks to share.

With full bellies, we decided to head back to the safari. Along the way, we had our first ever encounter with DeVine.

We had a short wait for our safari ride and headed off...

We barely caught a glimpse of this sleepy lion - our dog always sleeps like this too!

We saw quite a few animals on this safari ride, despite it being the middle of the day. Kay LOVED this ride and was snapping picture after picture.

Next we headed down the Pangani Trail:

After our walk down the trail, we caught the acrobats in Africa.

Next, we made our way to DinoLand USA. While Kay and Ralphie took the boys on Triceratops Spin, Dee and I rode Dinosaur. Ralphie and I had loved this ride back in 2000. We rode it over and over. It makes me sad to see it so empty all of the time. :sad2: Dee and I literally walked on and not only were we the only 2 in our time traveling mobile, we were the only people in the loading area period! I had forgotten much of the ride sequence, and I don't remember this ride being so incredibly loud! It was ridiculously loud. :scared1: When the big dino pops out and roars, we both jumped just from the sound and our ride photo showed both of us covering our ears. I think they could turn this one down a bit!

Kay and Ralph decided to forgo the time travel and we headed towards the parade route to catch Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade. We really love this parade and thought the holiday touches were cute. However, we didn't notice the hot chocolate smell coming from Minnie's float. We didn't know about this until after our trip when we saw a Samantha Brown special.

After the parade we made it into the last Nemo show of the day. We had missed this the last time around and I really wanted to see it. This show was really great! The kids loved it and I thought it was very well done. Dee and Kay thought that the actors/puppeteers were awesome - so very talented.

After the show, we meandered towards the park exit and through the Oasis, and viewed some of the animals we missed on the way in.
We caught a bus to AKL for dinner at Boma and our 2nd celeb sighting of the day!

Continued...

We arrived at the AKL and stepped into the lobby - we stood just inside checking out the sights. There was a small group of people standing right next to us and Dee starts (quietly) freaking out. Then Kay starts in. The group of people included Drew Lachey and his Dancing with the Stars partners as well as their Disney handler and a few others. Now, I have never seen this show - but I had seen Drew Lachey when he was on some of the episodes of that Nick and Jessica MTV show. I had no idea who the dancing partner was, but Dee and Kay, who apparently watch the show, recognized her immediately. Sorry, we don't have any pictures of them because we were standing right next to them, and then they headed over to Jiko. Kay didn't have enough time to whip out her camera for some paparazzi shots this time! Out thoughts were: Drew Lachey is incredibly short. We are not giants or anything, but he is a pretty short guy. The dancing partner was a small little thing - and, she was wearing some sort of skin tight, whole body, black cat suit leotard thingy. Hmmm...not exactly what I think of as WDW attire;) Ralphie thought it was cool though:rotfl2:

So we headed out to view the animals. We really love this part of AKL - we could sit out there for hours just watching the animals munch on grass/leaves.
After a while, we headed back inside to check in for our Boma ADRs.

Kay, Nemo, Dee waiting for Boma

Kay and Dee really loved the AKL. I think that this may be where we are headed for our next trip!

After some waiting, we were seated in Boma. We had eaten here on a previous trip based on the rave reviews on the DIS and a very supportive review from Ralph's cousin who lives in Florida - she said that they eat at Boma every time they are in WDW. To tell you the truth, we really didn't care for it then. We are pretty adventurous eaters, but we just didn't find anything that we were really crazy about. We decided to give it another try because SO MANY people just love the place, and we wanted Kay and Dee to see the AKL. Well...again, we weren't impressed. I did find a crab soup that I enjoyed - I didn't remember it from the previous visit. Dee and Kay didn't care for much of the food. Nemo was happy with (you guessed it) mac-n-cheese. The chef was incredibly attentive regarding Bear's allergies - it did take some time for her to get to the table after we sat down (again, I sent the family up to the buffet while he and I waited), but she was very willing to make whatever he wanted which he again devoured!

Here, I experienced yet another of WDW's mousses...I tried both the zebra dome and some of Boma's chocolate mousse. Frankly, neither of these did much for me because both have a coffee (mocha) flavor to them which I do not care for. Sorry - I know that those zebra domes are a fave of many DISers!

And so we ended our eventful AK/AKL day!:lovestruc

Up next: Epcot, another CP, and more NPH!!!

I think it's so crazy that the Manager at Pizzafari was mad at you! It wasn't your fault that you were LED into the kitchen!! Geeze....

Great pictures! Too cool about seeing Drew...I'd have probably freaked (used to be a 98 degrees fan)....:rotfl2:

Can't wait to hear more!

This is such a great TR! Well, except for the MIL and SIL. What a bunch of downers! :sad1: I'm glad that my (unofficial) MIL is a disney freak! She has been every year for at least the past 30 years and has been going twice a year lately to the delight of our oldest niece! Actually, we brought them to the airport this morning for 2 weeks in Disney! Anyways, I showed DBF the NPH sighting as he is a big fan also. Your kids are so cute and I can't wait to read the rest of your TR. :goodvibes

~Beka~

Great stuff!! Gus and I are aren't big fans of Boma either. Just not our thing. However, we did love Jiko and plan on going there again on our next trip!!
Wow, another celeb sighting? Hmmm, I wonder what he was doing there with Cheryl Burke and not his wife??? Must have been a promotional thing for the show or something. :confused3

Looking forward to more!!

I'm disappointed in how you were treated in Pizzafari. That bums me out. Like it was your fault being led into that kitchen? Geesh. I love that you saw a second celeb! Too bad there are no photos of the hot black catsuit getup. LOL!!!

Yikes, so many posts to catch up n.
No time now, so I am subbbiing and catching up later.

Is it too late?? Is it done?! Oh well - even if I only get one new installment, it'll be worth it. :thumbsup2 You pretty much had me with the Urban Sombrero. :rotfl:

LOVED the trip back to 1985! Didn't we all use Sun-In? It was no natural-looking.

And a celebrity sighting, too? This is good stuff here. popcorn::

Karen - one of my best college friends used to work at the big music festival in Cincinnati yearly. Since the guys in 98 Degrees were from Cincinnati, they got their start there and she always got to see and hang with those guys. She LOVED them.

Beka - thanks so much for reading and the compliments. Unfortunately, I think MIL is now a Disney fan too!:scared1:
Guess what this means???? Well, I'll let you know our next trip plans whenever I finally finish this report
Great trip report. I enjoyed it!!
Raysum - thanks for reading!

Ooooh - we are thinking about Jiko for our next trip, especially since we may be staying at AKL. We thought that Drew Lachey and the dancing lady (Cheryl, I guess) were in WDW for the taping of the Regis and Kelly parade/Christmas show. I think that the taping was at the MK the next day (Saturday).

I know - I was elbowing Kay to get out that camera, but we were so close she would have gotten shots of their nostrils since she had a big old telephoto lens going. I had no clue who the woman was, but I was like "what the heck is she wearing????"
Yikes, so many posts to catch up n.

Welcome Backstage Gal, good to have you aboard!

Hi V!!! Thanks for reading! I WILL have a few more installments...just not right now! :upsidedow

Hi everyone! I know I have been totally absent from the DIS lately. I have been working like crazy and now I am going out of town. We leave tomorrow for Honolulu. As I am writing, Ralph and I are frantically packing - we leave for the airport at 4am:scared1: tomorrow. The kids are at my parents house for 5 days then with Dee and Kay for 5 days. My goal was to finish this TR before I took this trip! However, I am going to Honolulu for a big research conference and have to present my research so for the past 2 weeks have been working on a lecture and a poster to present and I just didn't get them done in a timely fashion:rolleyes1 , so all my free time was full of working on them!
Sorry...I promise that when I get back I will crank this thing out! I have 3 more days to report about! And...I will get back up to date on everyone else's TR that I was following!!!

I know you've left already, but I hope you have a great time in Hawaii! I hope your presentation goes well. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Thanks LuccaDrake!

The good news is that we are back...the bad news is that I am not posting an update just yet:rolleyes:

Our Hawaii trip was very good, the conference went well. However, I had to go to a local hospital ER while there for feeling lightheaded with abnormal heart rhythm. Total downer. It was on our third day there and eventually, the abnormal rhythm dissipated enough that I still was able to present my research and do some fun stuff.
We went to the Dole Plantation..solely to get Dole Whips:lovestruc What great WDW memories those brought back!

Then, we got back home and I headed off to work Tuesday and I got so lightheaded while driving that I had to pull over (very scary:scared1: ), then it was back to the ER for me and I have been in the hospital until tonight. I have some new medicines to hopefully stop this phenomenon. So I will be taking it easy tomorrow, letting the medicines kick in, and should have time for an update (finally)!

Wow! Sorry to hear about your visits to the ER. Something similar happened to me a while back...I bet it's stress related!
Don't worry about not updating...I haven't been able to update in over a month! I need to get on that!!

Welcome back! Sorry for the ill-feeling. I have a combination of allergy/asthma/heart things that induce lightheadedness and it's the pits.

Saturday, December 1st

Today was Epcot Day #2 for our crew. Our plans were to spend time in the World Showcase because we hadn't seen much there on our first day in Epcot...
2267522903_1201305777.jpg

We didn't need to wake up super early thus we weren't there for rope drop this time. I did, however, take that sweatshirt with me again - in the hopes that a manager would be at Mouse Gear and willing to let me exchange it.

When we arrived, we headed first to Mission:Space. Ralph and I were debating on going orange this time, but he was the one who ultimately opted out and went for green. He said that he didn't want to feel lousy all day (if that's the effect the spinning would have had on him). I was a bit disappointed, what with all the progress I had made conquering my ride-fears! Ralphie, Dee, and I rode - Kay refused again and sat with the boys.
Dee wasn't crazy about this ride - she kept complaining that it was way too cold inside. Ralph doesn't love this one either. I like it. I love the whole set up, the "roles", etc. Next time I think I am going for the spin (that is if I can with the whole heart rhythm deal)!

Next we headed for Ellen's Energy Adventure. Dee wanted to go on this one because she likes Ellen. The last time we had taken Nemo on this one, he cried and cried because it was SO LOUD. Especially after the "big bang" part. We did a little prep with him and Bear, warning them that it would be very loud and that we/they should cover their ears. When we finally sat in our moving theater seats, guess who I noticed sitting in the same row but next section over???? Neil Patrick Harris again!:lovestruc This time it looked like he was with a large group, maybe his family? They seemed to be of various ages. Wow, what luck we were having with the NPH and other celebrity sightings! No pics this time as we were in the theater and pretty close to him.... Nemo hated the big bang part, loved the dinosaurs, then could have cared less about the rest. We all found this to be so-so. Even Dee didn't care for it much despite Ellen.

Next stop was across the park, heading for Nemo/Crush. But first a stop into Mouse Gear...
Luckily, there was a manager present this time. I explained to her what had happened - that I had religiously followed the cleaning instructions for the sweatshirt and the flocking had come off anyways - leaving just a black non-Mickey shaped blob. She seemed really exasperated but finally said, "Well, we stick by our products, so you can exchange it" I was happy until she said, "It was probably about $30 right? You can pick out something that is $30." Um, it was at least $50. When have you last seen a heavy hooded sweatshirt for sale at WDW for $30??? Of course I wouldn't be able to find a replacement sweatshirt for $30, because sweatshirts at WDW DO NOT COST THIRTY FREAKING DOLLARS:mad: !!!!!! So...I chose to ignore this last bit of what she said. I ended up with a blue lightweight hooded sweatshirt, also with Mickey on it (but not in flocking). It was more than $30 (but I really think it was less than the original one). I just marched it right up to the check out and the CM there just put it into my bag and off I went.:dance3:

We rode Nemo - we all thought it was cute, but the queue is the best part!
2268310964_a931c6e53d.jpg

Next was Turtle Talk with Crush. Last time we were in WDW, this had been closed. The very first time we took Nemo to WDW, he was too young to really get this. This time he sat up in front with all the other kiddos. Our session with Crush wasn't that great, mostly because ALL of the kids (including Nemo) were just raising their hands because the rest of the kids were raising their hands. Not many of them really knew WHY they were raising their hands, so that when a kid would get called on, he/she invariably had nothing to ask Crush and was just silent. This went on for a while. Basically Crush was on his own. It was kind of funny, but boring! At the end, I asked Nemo what he was going to ask Crush because he had his hand raised each time. He didn't know what the heck I was talking about!:rotfl: :rotfl:

One of our plans was to eat lunch "around the world". Ralphie and I love to do this, and our 1st stop is always for Ramsden's fish-n-chips. No one else wanted any so Ralph and I enjoyed. Then we strolled through the English garden on on to the other countries.

The pastries were good by all accounts. Next stop was the American Adventure. We caught the fife and drum corps - Nemo loved this. This is where the rest of the crew decided to eat lunch (whoa - way to go out on a limb), but it was probably the best bet for Bear's allergies. He had a burger on the allergen free, gluten free bun. These buns are horrible, but I guess its better than no bun? Everyone else had burgers or hot dogs. It was here that I again saw NPH, he and his group walked right past us! He was with less people than earlier in the day. This is my attempt at a picture, but he was clearly pretty far away at this point.

Now it was my turn to eat - I headed to the absolute best WS CS place...

Tangierine Cafe in Morocco!!!! I LOVE the food here. My whole group left me there alone:woohoo: so I sat at a lovely table outside in the sunshine and enjoyed an absolutely delicious chicken wrap with yummy couscous and lentil salads.

Kay took a bunch of pictures while I ate and they explored other pavillions. Dee bought Nemo a Moroccan flute thing - I curse her to this day for that one. Toot toot toot all the time!:scared:

In Norway, we decided to ride Maelstrom. There was not a long line or we would have skipped it. We warned Dee and Kay that at the end, we would be rushing through the theater to skip the tourism film - if they didn't make it through, they were on their own!!! Nemo wasn't crazy about this ride with the troll that appears, the backwards part, and the hill.
Dee barely made it out of the theater!

We rode the new updated Mexico ride - Hmmm, we weren't too impressed, but its a nice little opportunity to relax.

By the time 5pm rolled around, we were ready for dinner - our ADR this evening was at Garden Grill. This is a must-do for Ralph and I. Back in 2000, we had eaten here and just loved the food, the atmosphere, and meeting the characters. The flank steak and pork roast we had then was absolutely delicious. That was the trip where we had been on a tight budget and we packed lunches for the parks. I ended up taking some of that delicious flank steak to make sandwiches for the next day! We like this place now with kids because it seems to be a much less hectic and quiet place than others for a character dinner.
However, this time wasn't too hot.... We checked in for our ADR and the CM's at the desk basically said that they were extremely behind, that we would probably be waiting over an hour. There were many irate customers - it was just a mess. We were to be at the 8:15 CP (with NPH as narrator) and our ADR was for 5:10 so we felt that we had plenty of time. We sat on the floor overlooking Sunshine Seasons and talked and waited. We only waited about 20min and were seated. I am not sure what the deal was - I got the feeling that the CMs at the front desk were trying to get people to leave/cancel their reservations???
We were totally cramped at our table which was way too small for all of us. They were pretty helpful regarding Bear's allergies, but it did take a while to be served dinner. They have moved to this new serving "system" with this wire rack thing in the middle of the table and all the serving plates are slid into it stacked on top of each other. Basically, it made it impossible to get to anything except for what was on top. We had to keep moving our plates, glasses, etc. to slide out the bottom serving dishes - or we had to slide out the top one and hold it to get to the next one down. It was very strange and inconvenient. They had changed the dessert as well - I can't remember what it was in 2000, but on our last visit to GG, it was a dessert sampler. This time it was an apple crisp with ice cream. I don't like cooked fruit, but ate the ice cream. Dee and Kay really liked it. The character interaction was great as usual - at this place I usually find that we see most of the characters twice because of the time it takes to eat vs. the time it takes each character to get around the restaurant.

Overall, this GG experience was just ok - Ralph and I were a bit disappointed because it has long been one of our favorites. The check in part with the doomsday CMs was just weird, especially since our wait wasn't that long. The cramped seating was a pain and that new serving thing stunk! They haven't had the pork for a while, but Ralph still enjoyed the catfish and I the flank steak and potatoes. The dessert didn't do much for me, but the rest of our group liked it. I think we will probably be back, but some of the magic of GG is gone:sad1:

We were so excited for the CP with NPH!!! :cool1: The lines for this one were so long! Twice what they were for our previous CP on Tuesday. As we were waiting in line, Kay suddenly decides that she's not going to attend the CP. WTH??? OK, whatever, at this point we have grown accustomed to this kind of thing with her so off she went to do whatever. Our seats this time weren't quite as close, but were more towards the center. I don't have any pictures this time because we filmed video of the entire thing with NPH narrating. We really enjoyed his narration and as usual, the music and choirs were awesome. NPH was so cute at the beginning because he said that he had always wanted to be part of something Disney and he was so excited to be there narrating. He hoped that he would be back for 2008! Me too! Both boys fell asleep during the CP and we had to carry them out to the strollers.

Once we got the sleeping kids into the strollers, we headed out to search for Kay. We found her in Japan sipping sake??? I don't know if she had ever had sake before - she said that she had tried another sake and then got this one and thought it was gross so gave it to me and Ralph to finish. Again, whatever. We caught some of Illuminations as we headed to the buses. Then it was off to CSR to get some sleep for Dee and Kay's last day in WDW
