Whoops, was just packing for our next trip to WDW (9 days away
) when I found my little book with my trippie notes from the last one and I remembered that I had only done the first few days of the report. Better late than never though and this will get me back in the mood for a return visit.
The first week of the trip was me (32) and hubby Ric (33). We spent a day at Epcot before heading down to Siesta Key for a few days at the beach and a visit to Busch Gardens. Day 6 is April 27th and we are heading back to Orlando for a 2 night stay at the Beach Club before my parents join us for the second week.
THURSDAY APR 27th
We left Siesta Key at around 9am for the uneventful journey to Orlando. I was very excited to be heading back to the World which for me was the proper bit of the holiday which I had been planning to death for the previous 12 months.
We first drove to Epcot where we had to collect our temporary Disney Dining Experience card from Guest Relations. Then we drove the short distance to our hotel, the Beach Club. Staying at a deluxe has been a dream of mine since I first went to Florida back in 1994. We chose the Beach Club because of it's fantastic location and I liked the look of the pool and the whole beach theme
I do feel that you pay over the odds to stay on property at Disney as I have stayed in much nicer hotels than Disney Deluxe for a fraction of the price but it really is about Location, Location, Location. Being able to walk or take a short boat ride to both MGM and Epcot is fantastic and the whole Boardwalk area is very pretty with a great choice of places to eat and drink. We were only staying for 2 nights unfortunately, I wish it could have been longer. Maybe when I win the lottery.
The Beach Club does have a nice seasidey atmosphere and Stormalong Bay is a pool and a half, I just loved the sandy floor. We were allowed to check in early so after taking up our hand luggage we headed straight down to Beaches and Cream, it was midday and we were seated almost immediately at the counter. We shared a double cheeseburger, fries, onion rings and a banana split. I had a diet coke and Ric had a Heineken. This came to around $25 with our first DDE discount. We had been given a free game of mini golf when we checked in so we go the bus to Winter Summerland where I got thrashed.
We had a 5.50 ADR at Cape May Cafe for the seafood buffet. This turned out to be a great time to eat as we had no wait to be seated whereas when we were finishing the restaurant was starting to get crowded with a good few people waiting around. I really enjoyed this meal but Ric doesn't really like buffets and was not so keen. There was a good selection and I started with clam chowder before having a plate with shrimp, clams, mussels, chicken, corn on the cob and lovely mash potatoes, yum. I saved room for the famous oreo bonbon dessert and a small piece of cheesecake.
Because of Grad Nights we did not have too many nights when Spectromagic was on but tonight was one of them so we walked off our meal by going through Epcot to get the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We got a good spot for the parade sat on a planter near the gallows in Liberty Square. I got myself a pair of light up pink mickey ears but they were probably meant for younger visitors as they were really too small for my head but they got me in the mood for the parade anyway. I love Spectro and we had a great view of all the floats.
As soon as the parade was finished we nipped round the back of Fantasyland to get a spot in the Rose Gardens to see Wishes for the first time. You get a good clear view of the castle from here and we got to see Tink fly. When we go back though I really want to see the show from Main Street so the castle is in the middle rather that the side on view that we had. Getting out was a bit of a zoo but we got on the 2nd bus to the hotel and were back around 11.30. Ric really enjoyed both Spectro and Wishes tonight, he's not really into the whole Disney thing but likes all the shows and fireworks etc.
