Thursday May 4th - My Birthday!!!
I have been away a few times on my birthday but this was my first time spending it in my favourite place in the world
I got up this morning and Ric had tied a ball of wool all over the living room (think of the security lasers like in Mission impossible) I had to follow clues all over and he had hidden my presents all over the room. It was so thoughtful of him and a fun start to my 34th birthday.
Today we are heading just down the street from where we are staying to Discovery Cove.
We arrived at about 8am nice and early and were given a Dolphin swim for around 10am. We got our bag with snorkell etc and then went to fetch life vests before getting some chairs near the Dolphin pool. We then went for an explore around the rest of the complex. Soon it was time for our Dolphin swim. My Mum had not booked for the swim as she can't swim and is not confident in the water. What a shame this was. For anybody reading this who has non swimmers in their party book the swim anyway. The dolphin interaction took place in knee depth water and when it came to the swim part you could (as I did) get the dolphin to pick you up from a shallow section rather than swim out to the deeper part. Our dolphin was a female called Roxy. The interaction lasted approx half an hour and I felt it was well worth the money. We bought the DVD but not the pictures. After our swim we went to the dfferent areas and swam in the cold pool with the stingrays and went around the river through the aviary. Lunch was very nice and plentiful and it was nice to have drinks and snacks included. We spent the whole day here and despite my Mum being a non swimmer she really loved the day here.
This evening we had our illuminations cruise booked. This was leaving from our previous hotel The Beach Club. Our boat was driven by Captain Ron who kept us entertained as he drove the boat round the lake over to MGM before heading over to the bridge next to France to watch Illuminations where we had a perfect view of the show. The fireworks cruises have got quite pricey now ($250) but it is a nice way to celebrate a special occassion.
