I changed my insurance this year to EPO (No deductable and only a copay "In-Network"). Decided I'd have myself checked out completely starting with my heart (I'm 49 but am a runner.) Planned on going on from there to the GI etc, but looks like I'd better take care of my heart!

A stress test turned up a "narrowing" so now I have to go in for an angiogram and most likely a stent!

Been a widower for 10 years now, my dd is still too young to understand anything but me,me,me even though she has a 2 year old and I'm trying to make sure the little one is taken care of when I go!

What me worry!!!

How 'bout a little PD and/or tag my way?

Here it comes! pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Yep, it's not fun when the body reminds us we aren't 20 anymore.

Take care.

Hope all goes well and easily. Thank goodness they caught it this early!! :)

tell me about it-i went to see the opthamologist about a bunch of "floaters" in my right eye...i got "well, these things happen with age". excuse me? um-i'm not quite 45 and not ready for this diagnosis (except in the instance of menopause :goodvibes ).

pounds of pixie dust your way-TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!! ya, know we are never "too young" for this kind of stuff (the same doctor who told me the floaters were "due to aging" also told me i was "too young" to have had 2 strokes, but they happened).

i keep reading that "40 is the new 20"-would someone tell my body this?!

best wishes!

like you said this is a good thing. They found the problem before it showed any symptoms or became a real problem. Now you'll get treatment, follow all the diet advice, etc and live a long happy life.
I'm facing a bit of a health scare and can't sleep. I have a dh who is an unstable bipolar sufferer. I have three kids in college who are very dependent on me. I get very worried if I think anything would happen to me before they are really established in their lives so I understand. But you did the great thing, you got checked out.

Good thoughts and Pixie Dust on the way Kirk.

Glad they caught it early...good wishes for you...and you're right it sucks when the body reminds us that we arent as young as we think we are.

Good luck and I'm really glad you decided to go into the doctor and be proactive. Most people don't and they wait until they are miserable and everything is an emergency. So good for you!!!!

I am 42 and I feel like my body is falling apart piece by piece. I am constantly at the doctor getting things checked out (just went through some cardiac studies myself).

It's really bittersweet how short-lived your "maintenance free" 20s and 30s are. And you don't even know it at the time.

Lots of good thoughts your way Kirk, you deserve it.

How are those babies of yours?

Kirk, I'm sure you'll have MANY more years to make sure the little one is taken care of, now that you've found out early that you have a heart problem. If it's any consolation, my mom found out she had a heart problem at 78...early, and she had all kinds of surgery and she's 84 now and lives like she's 60. I know it's very scary for you, I hope everything gets resolved quickly for you and you can go on feeling better than you do now!! :grouphug:

Howdy!

I was just commenting to yaya Elaine that I hadn't see you around in a while. We were passing Pooh Corner and I was telling her that every time I pass that log bench, I think of your picture!

Good job being proactive and getting yourself taken care of for the girls. I started the same thing this year (big 40 in July) and already got a couple of surprises myself. Nothing like yours, though!

Glad to hear you are on track, Kirk, good news. Best wishes coming your way. And great to see you. :wave2: Hope everyone is doing well.

Good luck. It's a good thing you are being checked out-- makes me want to schedule a physical. When was your last physical?

Kirk, good for you! No one wants to find out they have a problem, but it is better than the consequences of not finding out.

I am scheduled for a physical at the end of the month. I'm not looking forward to it, but it is a necessary evil.

Kirk, it's good to see a post by you even if it is a health scare. Sounds like you're going to catch this thing early which is a good thing. I've got a feeling that you will be around for your dd and dgd for a very long time.

BTW, your dgd is already two?!! Wow, I can't believe she's already that old. So we need some recent pics already! LOL

I agree...time for some updates here!

Take care of yourself! The recovery from an angiogram/stent is nothing compared to a heart attack, or open heart surgery. Just get it down, make some lifestyle changes and move on!

I do agree, now that I am approaching (ahem) mid-40's, things aren't going to get any easier. And if restaraunts could just make a menu that I could just read... I would be very happy!

It's an added pressure to stay healthy when your a single parent. Hope your recovery is uneventful. I hope your daughter handles this well. I not sure my son would.

Well, congratulations, Kirk, for being pro-active! Taking care of these things early is essential! Hopefully, when you get to the GI test, it will be fine!

Good for you, for taking care of youself!
