It started with cancelling cable and now we have saved ourselves over 2K per year!!!!

I just switched from Verizon to Comcast and am saving $60 per month. Comcast doesn't have one of the "on-demand" channels I used to put on for DD, and we did have to buy a router, but the cable and phone and internet seem to be working just fine and that's $720 a year in savings! Also for the first year we got a free DVR box. We can cancel any time if we get a better offer; we're not locked in. :thumbsup2

PP who cancelled iPhones- how do you like the droid? Did you remember to sell your iPhones?

We haven't had iPhones, but we have had Android phones since they first came out - both DH and I absolutely love them. DD15 has one now too and we love love love our Android phones. Plus, you can't beat the price! Most of the popular apps are available for both the iPhone and Android phones. If it isn't available on Android, just wait a little bit, because it is just a matter of time until it comes out for Android too.

Good luck and good saving!

Thanks for the ideas :thumbsup2

I stopped working my part-time job last week and I'm trying to figure out how to cut expenses.....already checking into the ideas here.

The other thing to keep in mind is that as we get older we (usually) have more assets to protect (savings, retirement accounts, investment accounts, equity in a home). Make sure you're not underinsured. Years ago $100,000/$300,000 coverage was more than enough. Today, $100,000 doesn't go as far as it used to. If you (or your teen) was in a really bad accident you want to make sure you have enough coverage to protect you. I work in a law firm that specializes in insurance defense and you wouldn't believe some of the awards I've seen for car accident victims that haven't suffered life threatening injuries, or the ones that have, or are now severely disabled. A couple hundred dollars a year for an umbrella now is better than a $1 million dollar verdict and you only have $100,000 in coverage.

Exactly what I was thinking. For me insurance is one area to NEVER scrimp on to safe. I would rather pay for more cover and make sure I am covered then reduce and risk losing my house.

I wasn't willing to scrimp to save on our Auto Insurance when we switched, in fact, we got a few additional options (better roadside assistance and rental coverage, plus accident forgiveness)and still saved $600/year and Dh's record is not great. And, with this new policy, we will be reevaluated every 6 months, instead of every 12 months.

I love the droid, I had the iPhone 3gs and was due for an upgrade so we were going to get the iPhone 4 but it would have been 199 per phone plus the activation fee and then the 110 a month.

I did some research and found that Virgin Mobile has a droid which is between the 3Gs and iPhone 4. They were 129 bucks each and only 25 a month for each. With unlimited data and texting and 300 anytime minutes. We sold the 3gs for 125 each so the new phones were free.

I buy the cards online and pay 23 per line so 46 a month for both phones and dont miss anything from the iphone especially the big bills.

I just cut our cable and home phone bill myself over the weekend. I downgraded our cable package by one tier and canceled a 2nd phone line that never got used. I figure that should save at least $30 a month.

I already use a pre-paid phone, maybe spend $100 a year on that, DH spends even less since he hardly uses his cell.
