Let me preface this by saying, I always save my receipts. It paid off for me big time today! I am opening a private practice and purchased a desk, bookshelf, and two end tables at Target last weekend during our tax free weekend. Today, while looking at the new sale flyer, I noticed they were on sale...it did not list what the price was.

I brought the receipts up and got...$121.52 back!! :goodvibes:yay:

:thumbsup2 Awesome! I'm a receipt saver too, love when you can get a good price adjustment!

If you are going to be self-employed, be sure to check with your tax advisor regarding what receipts to save for tax time.

also worth noting if you paid via credit or debit card they can look up your receipt as well so no paper copy needed.

You can go back a week after and do that?! I never knew that! How many stores do that?

:goodvibes. Isn't that one of the greatest things about Target? And on top of the 5% everyday, too.

Last year I got in a huge fight with Disney Cruise Line over damamged luggage. Let's just say when something goes wrong with Disney and you have to deal with Risk Management they don't say "Have a Magical Day!" on the phone like other departments! An entire bin of luggage coming off the Dream got yellow paint on it (looked like school bus yellow and very thick consistency) and they didn't want to pay- didn't even offer to attempt to clean it first. Since I didn't have cruise insurance they said they would only give me 10%, which on a $90 LLBean duffle bag is $9. I emailed them cruise contract and pointed out how they were responsible for the damage so they agreed to pay, but only the full amount if I had the receipts. The bags were several years old and she figured I didn't have the receipts anymore. I told the woman from Risk Management give me 10 minutes- I had them scanned and in her email.

I wasn't planning on asking for 100% reimbursement, but the $9 offer threw me over the edge! I don't save every receipt, but on things like luggage I keep them filed away.

I think every place does it otherwise you could just bring back whatever it is and buy a new one and they don't want people doing that so they price adjust. I remember last year getting back $30 at Old Navy when my winter coat went on sale and just this summer I got $15 back when my girls bathing suits went on sale a week after I bought them (O.N. again)

So smart.

This must be a change in policy for Target. Several years ago I bought a computer desk there and about 10-14 days later it went on sale. I hadn't even opened it yet and had the receipt but they wouldn't give me a price adjustment. In fact they said that I would have to return the item and then go get another one from the display and re-buy it. The thing weighed a ton and I had left it in the car. I asked to speak to the manager and he wouldn't help either so I decided that I didn't want it and returned it. I was surprised that they were willing to lose the sale.

Just a fyi, on Target's ability to look up receipts. I was doing a return and another customer was having a fit as he was trying to return a large flat screen tv without a receipt. They told him they could only look up his receipt if he purchased at that particular store which he hadn't. He wasn't happy as the store he purchased it at was 30 miles away.

thats not true. I had to return something last week from another target and brought the wrong receipt, they looked it up ( I did buy it with a cc) and returned it fine.

The receipt-look-up-with-credit-card capability at Target is awesome, but not fail-safe. I've tried to return an item using this feature and the computer didn't find the sale. Luckily, I was able to find the paper receipt and return with that. The CS person was surprised but acknowledged that it was the same cc and couldn't explain why receipt-look-up didn't work. I just keep all my receipts in one of those plastic dollar-aisle accordion files -- one for each year.

This has happened to me before too-they couldn't find the sale. They also told me that sometimes if the purchase is from another location it may not show up.

So, like the OP said-keep your receipts!

Bingo. Lots of chain stores have done this for the last 10 years or so at least.

It never hurts to ask any store that issues a sales flyer if they can do a price adjustment. Especially for stores that have return policies with no restocking fees, if they don't do a price adjustment you just return the product and buy it again. More hassle for them to have to do something with the physical product. Almost every one I've been too will do it within 7 days, some will go up to 14 days. Usually the only caveat is you must ask for the price adjustment during the sale period, which makes sense.

The only thing I will mention about receipts, because of the type of paper used in most major chains, if the receipt is heated it will lose the ink. So receipts that you need long term be sure to put them in a folder or somewhere out of sunlight and don't carry them around in a wallet/pocket because extended body heat will do it too. (i had one receipt turn black because i left it on the car seat and frequently have parts of receipts missing from having it folded up in my pocket for a couple days)

If it is on clearance (red stickers), they will not adjust the price. If it is a regular sale, they will adjust it.

Same thing happened to me. I bought an item and a week later it went on sale. I took it back for a price adjustment. I had the receipt. They refused. My only option was to return it and go get another off the shelf and purchase it.

In my case there were no more on the shelf. They refused to sell me the one I had returned. I had to be reshelfed and that would take 2-3 days she said.

What a scam!!! I was so mad I returned it and they lost my sale.

This is my lucky week...I bought over $200 of clothes from Aeropostale last Friday, they were 50% off. I had a coupon, but it was not good until Monday. I asked the girl at the register about coupons, I thought I had gotten one in my email. She shrugged and said no and that the sale would be done by Monday. Lo and behold sale is not done and I had gotten a coupon in my email. I called the Aeropostale close to my house and explained what happened...

She asked me to bring the clothes and coupons in and she would take care of it...got me back 75 bucks!!

She was so nice and went through so much to do this for me, I bought two more things. This Aeropostle has all of my business...5 teens/young adults to shop for!! I was so appreciative and let her know it. I also did a survey and shared her name and my appreciation!:goodvibes

I just wanted to add a little tidbit of info i found out yesterday from bed bath and beyond, straight from the store manager. If you purchase any item in the store, and it doesn't hold up to your expectations, or stops working, even if you purchased it 2 years ago, as long as you have the receipt, they will exchange, upgrade, or refund your money. She explained this to me bc I went in to buy a vacuum, but they didn't have the one I wanted in stock, so she told me to pick a different one (since I needed it same day...2 huskies and 3 children, and a messy husband lol) to use until the one I wanted came in, and then I can return the one I purchased for the one I wanted even though it will have been used =)

I have found with Target that it depends on the CS person you get how much they choose to do for you. Also if something is not taped shut or looks like it was opened and retaped always open it and look at the item. I have gotten used items put back in the box. Once it was a humidifier that was all moldy and actually had several cigarette burns on top of it.

NOT TRUE at ALL!!! I just returned a few items that I purchased at a store in Melbourne, FL at my local store. I gave them the couple of cards I knew it would be on and they found the items in their system, NO Problem!!
